Here are the top ten charting US one-hit wonders that debuted in 1980. How many do you recognize? If you recognize them, check them off. You can post your favorites in your replies.

I recognize them all as they all get somewhat regular airplay on FlashbackRadio.com.

I remember all of them except for "Giving it up for your love" maybe I would remember it if I heard it. Maybe it's one of those songs where you heard it but never knew the name.

As for Pilot of the Airwaves....I loved that song! I think I still have the 45 of it around here somewhere.

I recognized all of the titles, except Delbert McClinton. My favorite on the list was definitely "Tired of Toein' the Line" by Rocky Burnette... the good ol' days of Rockabilly music!!! :)

Actually, Delbert McClinton was 1981 but yes, I remember them all. Delbert played harmonica on Bruce Channel's #1 hit "Hey baby" and is still recording Americana music today.

DJ Daffy, tried to include a disclaimer for you. Glad you've heard of Delbert, 'Giving It Up For Your Love' is a great song.

I recognize 5 of those songs.I was only 5 years old in 1980 so that's probably why I don't remember the rest.My favorite out of the ones I know is Whip It.

I recognize all of them except two. I liked "Giving It Up For Your Love" by Delbert McClinton. I have that song on a K-Tel record album from 1980-1981 called "High Voltage". That was one of my first rock albums I got of 80's music.

Lipps Inc - Funky Town
Rocky Burnette - Tired Of Toein' The Line
Devo - Whip It

These are the only ones I recognise by name. I might remember some of the others if I heard them.

It would be hard for me to chose which one I preferred , "Funky Town" and "Tired of Toen the Line" were both great songs. Whip it was good too.

I remembered all but two and I might even know them if I heard them again. I may not recognize the title.

I know all except three. I don't recognize the SOS Band, Rocky Bunette, or Charlie Dore songs. Maybe I would if I heard them.

The 1st & last options.
And BTW, I wouldn't say Devo were a 1 hit wonder. Or would I?
Well, they have a double disc (http://www.cdnow.com/from=sr-181894/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=1210415694/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/artistid=DEVO/itemid=1181144) anthology out so I can't really say that's just 1 hit.

Steve, as I have said before, a one hit wonder is an artist who only hit the hot 100 Billboard charts' top 40 once in their career. Devo fits this description even though they had many underground "hits"

Interesting way of setting up the poll, Greenway:thumb: I recognized most of them; Delbert McClinton, Charlie Dore, and Rocky Bunette I don't know, however.

Devo had quite a few hits over here in OZ!
Working In A Coal Mine is one I just recently remembered.
Beautiful World, The Girl you Want, Peek A Boo, Satisfaction (I Can't Get No) just to name a few.

Only 4 for me....Funky Town, Cars, One in a Million You and Whip It. I guess 'Whip It' is the one I like best....probably because I just made a parody out of it recently and the song has a humorous edge now

I think my memory is not good enough... I can remember only 3 songs of the list. The only one I just cannot forget is "Funky Town". That one was a great smashing hit... (although I identify it more with 70s disco than with 80s music).

I remember all but "Pilot Of The Airwaves." :p

I only recognised three of the songs.

I must be too young for these polls. Gary Numan's song Cars is my favorite of the three.

Recognize all except #s 8 & 9. SOS Band would be my favorite one.

I remember all except Pilot of the Airwaves. Wow, I actually thought half of these were older than that. There is definitely a 70s flavor to them.

Probably because I was a pre-teen in 1980, my faves were "Funky Town" and "Whip It" - although I think we probably were introduced to Devo the following year when the video aired on MTV. The songs I enjoyed (but wouldn't admit to anyone) were "Tired of Toeing the Line" and "Into the Night"

I remember them all, especially Delbert McClinton. That song was so overplayed here in Canada

Take Your Time was really the only song I liked from SOS Band, even though they did score a few other minor (and major UK) hits

I don't remember Delbert or Larry...LOL. I didn't really think 1980 was a good year for music in the US. Now in the UK that's a whole different ball of wax! Gary Numan's Cars would have to be my favorite on this list, although I think it's one on his weaker singles, but we're talkin 1980 here. Lipps Inc was pretty good too.
