Hey Y'all,

Does anyone recall if Karen Kamon' song "Manhunt" from the "Flashdance" soundtrack was a release? Does anyone know anything about this lady and her fantastic voice?!?

I don't remember Karen Kamon at all, but I did notice this bit from Stacy's In the Music News segment:

1984 Super-producer Phil Ramone marries singer Karen Kamon in New York, with super-producer Quincy Jones as the best man.

From a search I did at allmusic.com, she mainly was a background vocalist and as far as I can tell, never recorded a solo album. She did work on some of these albums as a background vocalist:

Laura Branigan Over My Heart (1993) Vocals (bckgr)
Raul Di Blasio Latino: Piano de America (1995) Vocals (bckgr), Production Coordination
Gloria Estefan Christmas Through Your Eyes (1995) Vocals (bckgr)
Dave Grusin Presents: West Side Story (1997) Vocals (bckgr)
Russ Irwin Russ Irwin (1991) Vocals (bckgr)
Elton John & Tim Rice Aida (1999) Vocals (bckgr)
Robert Lamm Life Is Good in My Neighborhood (1995) Vocals (bckgr)
Luciano Pavarotti/Celine... For the Children of Liberia (1998) Vocals (bckgr)
Diane Schuur & B.B. King Heart to Heart (1994) Vocals (bckgr)
Swamp Boogie Queen Ill Gotten Booty (1998) Vocals (bckgr)

"Goin' on a Manhunt!"...ah, one of the weekend theme songs for me and my friends in the mid-80s!
It is a good song, and she's got a fantastic voice, but I don't know anything else about her (other than what I've just read here;) ). She should have been more than a background vocalist.

The only info I have on her was that she had a song named 'Loverboy' that made it to #88 on the pop charts in 1984.

I think I remember seeing it here on the xchange that Karen Kamon is married to Phil Spector, can anyone confirm this?

She did two albums. One in 1984 called "Heart Of You" (actually I just had to look at it to make sure that was the title!!!). It was produced by Phil Ramone. The tracks were: Loverboy; Don't Just Stand There; Do You Wanna Make Something Of It; It's Tough To Be A Man; Da Doo Ron Ron; The Heart Of You; Sweet Little Girl; The Real Me; When You Got A Woman. It was released on the columbia label. I believe she did a second LP in 1985 or '86 which included a cover of Russ Ballard's song "Voices". I remember seeing her perform it on Carson! I liked the song Manhunt, but to be honest the first album was not that great. They could have done a lot more with her because she does have a good voice, but only one of the songs is in the same vein as Manhunt. As far as I know only "Loverboy" was released in single format, and I recall it having some semi-regular rotation on MTV for a brief period. Most of the rest of the LP is fodder with no real stand out tracks.

Yes, Karen Kamon had a great voice and should have had a bigger career. Ironic since she is married to producer Phil Ramone. She did record two albums. Heart of You and Voices. Heart of You was the bigger of the two yielding small hits Loverboy and a remake of Da Do Ron Ron. An okay album. Her second album was actually quite good. Her covers of Voices and Strange Way are her best songs besides Manhunt. Unfortunately the two albums never made it to cd.
