View Full Version : Visionaries: Knights of the Magical Light
80sAlive.com 4-09-02, 09:16 AM Any fans out there who can recall this show? It was set in a futuristic world where all technology failed, throwing the planet into a "Dungeons & Dragons" feudal-type age. The Spectral Knights battled the Darkling Lords, while the all-powerful wizard "Merklyn" assisted either side with magical powers: The ability of each Visionary to transmography into an animal that represented their true nature. In addition, some knights were granted a standard that imbewed them with additional powers (i.e. light speed, wisdom, destruction, etc.).
The toys of these guys had groovy holograms on the chests and standards of the figures, who were G.I. Joe-type sized and articulated. Throw in some nice vehicles, and you had the recipe for a neat (albeit short-lived) 80s cartoon/toy tie-in.
80sTrivia 4-09-02, 08:13 PM This must have been a very short-lived cartoon, Chris. I don't recall it at all! Of course, there are probably tons of cartoons that came and went very quickly that I don't recall!!! :)

What's this Triv? A show/cartoon that was short-lived and we were'nt a fan of it?! It strikes me funny that we both don't know this, seeing how we always watched, and rather enjoyed, those shows that got cancelled early on, remember?
80sAlive.com 4-10-02, 07:28 AM This doesn't come as a shock to me - none of my childhood friends seem to remember it at all either. It was on around 1987, for one season only- 13 episodes total (I am lucky enough to have aquired them on VHS a couple of years ago).
Anyways, for anyone that is interested, I did an article on them some time ago:

80sTrivia 4-10-02, 07:42 AM I just your article on the Visionaries, Chris, and it still didn't ring any bells with me! But, by 1987, I had sort of moved away from watching cartoons, thinking I was too "old" to watch! In other news, I voted for 1984 as the year I would most like to travel back to in your poll!!! :)
80sAlive.com 4-10-02, 11:14 AM Yeah, I think I was rapidy entering that same frame of mind around that time (let see, I must have been around 12). I was a "closet cartoon watcher", in that I probably didn't discuss the guilty pleasures of cartoon-watching with my peers at that time.

Roemello 1-29-03, 12:32 AM Due to another thread that got me diggin for info on the toys of these, I remember!! Now I wish I could've recorded the damn thing back then....all I have now are a few of the action figures. Short lived it was, but a pretty cool and innovative series for sure :D Good article on your site too (though your link is expired up there :p)
80sAlive.com 2-03-03, 03:22 PM Thanks for the heads-up Roem, I just updated the link (the site has seen some heavy overhauling since this thread was created).
Great, but short-lived franchise, indeed. The toys were great, but the cartoon is especially nifty. I think it holds up rather well, and I usually pop the tapes in about once or twice a year to bring me back to the timelong ago... :)
