Donna Summers was the undeniable Queen of Disco music in the late 70s and into the 80s. Many of her songs are dance hall classics, even today. Vote for your favorite Donna Summer dance song:

When I had my dancing shoes on every friday and saturday night at the Holiday Ballroom in Chicago in the late 70's it was "Bad Girls" "Hot Stuff" and the others that were being played all the time but I always liked "She's Works Hard For The Money." It was a great dance song so that's what I voted for.

I haven't voted yet because I'm not sure of the name of the song, but wasn't there a song she sang in the 80s with some boy group?

THE best, last song of the night, long before I knew the importance of a last dance. :D

Hey Recker,

You're absolutely Right. The song was called "Unconditional Love" and the boy band was Musical Youth (of the song "Pass the Dutchie").

However I believe that the song was only released outside the States :)

I had to go with "I Feel Love" simply the best!!! I also like Jimmy Sommerville's rendition of this dancefloor classic!! :thumb:

I voted for "I Feel Love", too! It just has that hypnotic and pulsating dance beat to it that makes you want to hop on the dance floor and move around like a maniac!!!

Thanks Prefab, that's the one I'm after. It still happens to be my favourite of Summer's so I voted "Other".

I choose 'No More Tears (Enough Is Enough)', that classic duet with Barbra Streisand. My other favorites are 'Love Is In Control (Finger On The Trigger)' and 'This Time I Know It's For Real'.

I had to go with the classic club song "Last Dance" TGIF was a great movie. "On the Radio" was a close second.

Actually I think my mom still has her albums packed away some where. My parents were total disco freaks.

It must have been released only overseas, as I'm fairly sure I've never heard this song!!! :)

had to be "She Works Hard For the Money" because the intro into the songs before she sings sounds so much like Melissa Manchester's "You Should Hear How She Talks About You" (http://www.cdnow.com/from=sr-181894/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=515359992/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/artistid=MANCHESTER*MELISSA/itemid=406326).
In fact, I can just imagine switching the 2 intros around.

Wow, I haven't heard Melissa Manchester's song "You Should Hear How She Talks About You" in a very long time! It was a great song and a big hit for Melissa. I wonder why you no longer hear this song played on the radio, as it really is a great 80s dance tune? :)

I love the words to "On the radio"..great song by a great artist!

"Unconditional love" was released in the States only peaking in the lower portion of the hot 100 and MTV used to show the video where Donna was a teacher and Musical Youth were her students :)

I forgot about Donna Summers version of "There Goes My Baby"! I saw the video to this on VH-1 Classics the other day, and it was a very good song and video. Of course, every song that Donna Summers ever did was great!!! :)

I wonder why Melissa isn't played anymore either. :(
I believe it may be contractual issues, I know she is no longer with Arista; maybe her official site (http://melissa-manchester.com/) will have the answer.
"You should hear how she talks about you" was played all the time and I looked foward to hearing it all the time. :)

I was thinking that Diana Ross sang the song "Upside Down", but I could be wrong. :)

I love all the songs of Donna Summer, and there're too many good songs to choose just one ("last dance", "on the radio", "sunset people" and so many others). But my favorite isn't a disco song, but "State of independence"; when I hear this song I feel full of positive energy!.

I voted for "Hot Stuff"; a disco classic:thumb: "This Time I Know It's For Real" would come in second.

I had to vote for "She Works Hard For The Money." Now that I'm an "Adult" I really can relate to the song. And the part of the video where it shows her in a sewing factory... that is/was my life. I hate to admit it but I miss my old job. :dammit:

I liked all of them, but my fav was 'Love to Love You Baby'.

Also liked Bronski Beat/Marc Almonds 1985 cover 'I Feel Love/Love to Love You Baby'.

Hard to choose. I Feel Love (it started techno? Or would that award go to Kraftwerk?), She Works Hard For The Money (hilarious on South Park), This Time I Know It's For Real, Hot Stuff, and Bad Girls.

Even Ivan, singer of Men Without Hats, performed I Feel Love live.

Kraftwerk was a70s Techno-pop band before being an 80s Techno-pop band). In the other hand, "I feel love" was a song of the composer Giorgio Moroder, and was "70s Disco" music (very commercial, but that's not a criticism, was a wonderful music to dance). I mean that maybe is more related to Boney M than to Depeche Mode, for instance. Finally, the synthesizer rythm in "I feel love" is likey to be a copy (a sample?) of a Supertramp's song (I'm sorry, I don't remember the title :(). Surely someone can clarify that point.

She Works Hard For The Money... so you better treat her right.

Donna still kicks butt. I'm going to have to give her Alive & More Encore CD a spin tonight after thinking about these songs.

I love Donna Summer. I had to buy her anthology when it came out. This was really hard to choose.

I love On the Radio. I love Hot Stuff and Bad Girls. I even liked McAurther Park, even though it doesn't really make alot of sense.

My favorite is "Dim All The Lights", by the way, I'm pretty sure "Unconditional Love" was released here in the states, it was the second single from the album "She works Hard For The Money".
