View Full Version : Fame: the movie and series
Just saw the movie Fame. Never seen it before mainly because I would've been to young to see it. I did watch the series though and loved it. I always liked Leroy. I think Bruno was a head of his time in that movie. Imagine what he'd create with the technology of today.

RetroMan 7-15-00, 12:23 PM Wow Sheibub, you know, I still haven't seen it yet - I 2 was too young to see it (or get into it) but I rememeber the title track very well. Tomorrow, I'm off to the video store http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif
------------------
It takes a while to get into the stroy. It starts off with the auditions to enter the school which is where you are introduced to the characters. Two of the characters even go to a Rocky Horror Picture Show! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif Man, Bruno would have the time of his life with the computers and equipment for making music now. Wouldn't need all those keyboards that he had then.

Nikki_91 7-17-00, 11:21 PM Fame, I think I was like 9 or 10 when I saw it on video. Some of that stuff was like way over my head back then, of course now I get it! Leroy's audition was too funny. He was the cool guy in school. That red-headed kid,(Can't remember what his name was) he's on ER now has Dr.Romano!

Check ya later-I'm outta here!*Nikki*
I wonder what they are all doing now? I'll have to check out ER to see what that gay rd-haired guy looks like now.

Nikki_91 7-21-00, 12:46 AM Well, um, the red-haired guy..he's bald now. (Or at least that's how he appears on ER..and his character is a jerk!)

"Fame" is a fun and realistic look at the struggles of performing artists! There were so many powerful performances in this Alan Parker masterpiece. Gene Anthony Ray (Leroy) shines in this film and gives a believable performance!! His dance moves are solid and entertaining to watch. Irene Cara's songs are beautiful, especially, "Out Here On My Own". :thumb: The whole soundtrack is fabulous, I have to give it up to Linda Clifford's tune "Red Light", funky and fantastic, I love it!! :thumb:
"Fame: The Series" I was so addicted to this show, I actually got depressed when it was cancelled!! :( I never missed an episode and it felt like a good friend had passed away. I know it sounds sad, but it really brought so much enjoyment to me. I had both of the live cassettes from the television cast of "Fame", they actually toured at one point!! I would have liked to have seen that!! :thumb:
Nikki_91 4-07-02, 07:40 PM I vaguely remember the series. I know they showed it on VH1, not too long ago. Lori Singer and Janet Jackson were on it. I love the soundtrack to the movie. (Hot Lunch Jam wasn't a bad song) There was also one for the series. I just remember my best friend used to this one song that Lori Singer sang on the show. It was called "Starmaker" or something like that.
80sTrivia 4-07-02, 07:51 PM I loved Fame: The Series!!! I simply had to watch it every Saturday night at 7:00 PM... it came on right after Solid Gold. I remember Janet Jackson's character and of course, LeRoy! :D Trivia side note: Madonna tried out for a role on Fame: The Series, but tanked her audition!!!

Nikki, I loved "Starmaker". That was my favorite song from the TV series soundtrack, thanks, now more than ever I need to track down a copy of the cassette!! :)
Triv! I saw that audition tape where Madonna tried out for "Fame: the series", she was reading opposite Danny, I think she was going to be his love interest!! They missed out! :)
Fame was a thoroughly enjoyable show. I missed the first series though. :(
I had a bit of a crush on the actress Cynthia Gibb who played Holly. YUM!! :D

He played Montgomery in the film "Fame". He had bushy red hair.
Iluvthe80s 5-28-02, 07:08 AM I remember seeing the film on HBO in the 80's sometime, but don't remember the storyline too well. I did watch the series! I believe it came on Saturday nights if I remember.
I loved the Movie :p
I had to wait until i was old enough to see it though.. because my mom said it had to many adult scenes in it
The serious was wonderful.. i was heartbroken when they cancelled it.
Loved the series when it was on. Just watched the movie again about a week ago - only then did I realize the guy who played Montgomery was the one who played Dr. Romano!
I liked the movie, but I never liked the tv show. It was too much of the same. Maybe I was just too young for it when it aired, but I never really got into it.
JEDIpartner 1-31-05, 08:13 PM The movie and the series were SO different from each other. The series was one of those "...and the moral of the story is..." shows. I really enjoyed them both but I really wanna pull out my Kids from FAME LPs and listen to the songs like "Hi-Fidelity", "Be Your Own Hero", "I Still Believe in Me" and "It's Gonna Be a Long Night". LOVED those songs.
I used to like that "Hi-Fidelity" song. It was pretty cool
whistledog 1-31-05, 09:39 PM Therre was even a revised series titled "Fame: LA" that was short-lived. I really liked the Fame TV series.e Lori Singer was hot
ahafan02 1-31-05, 09:40 PM FAME (The Movie) was probably one of the best movies that came out of the 80's. I don't remember the series..maybe it will be released on DVD or reshown on TV.
It's a shame that Irene Cara was blacklisted by David Geffen after her "What A Feeling" album..she deserved far more success.
galaga-girl 2-01-05, 04:19 PM When I was in London I saw the Musical for FAME and fell in love with it, it was amazing!!! I saw the movie on cable last year some time, it was pretty good but very dated. Romano from ER is in it
