Poor Mario. Even back in the 80's this poor plumber had to go through such horrors as Donkey Kong. I loved this game. I have NEVER mowed as many lawns as I did the year Donkey Kong hit the arcades. My life had two objectives - 1. Get Coins 2. Play Donkey Kong. What a wonderful life
Oh yeah. Most certainly! I was a big fan of the following; and in order:
Space Invaders
Pac Man
Astroids
Galaxian
Galaga
Spy Hunter
Gyruss
In between there was a bit of Defender, Kung Fu Master, Berzerk.. I will think of more later...
I did LOVE the arcade room! Really loved it! Beyond that, on my Commodore 64, my favorite games were the Archon series! I can't believe how bad the graphics are (when I look back now) and how much I liked it anyway. I suppose it was really that good for back then..
In my early PC days, I loved the Doom series! Then I became addicted to the Mortal Kombat series.. Nowadays, when I RARELY get time, it's Command & Conquor Red Alert...
My quarters always lasted in arcades....I beat everything (or lasted very long in some cases). Donkey Kong, Pac-Man, Centipede, etc...all good. I remember one I liked that I just recently got a rom for...I think it's late 80's/early 90's...Black Tiger. First time I played it, I went through the entire game up to the last dragon on one quarter with about 10 people watching me play and cheering me on...what a day Ended up taking another quarter to finish it off.
Then came Street Fighter II. I retired from that game undefeated in the arcades. People would spend mounds of quarters trying to beat me....never happened. I was defeated once on the SNES version by time experation though
Mortal Kombat I did ok with. I didn't bother much with that one until it hit the SNES.
Console wise, I've forgotten more games I've beaten than most have played in their entire lives...used to be a master, not as good now (don't play much anymore), but still above average
I once went to an arcade in present day that had a selection of 'coin-ops' to the side called 'Memory Lane' that featured nearly all the retro games you guys have mentioned -It was amazing, I don't know if they were restored or replicas - but there they were - in all there 1/2 to 1 Bit graphics glory!! oh and the super mono buzzy sound effects!
That Retro Gameroom sounds really cool! And Roemello - do you have the MAME games? I bet you would like those. They're for the PC but are exact replicas...
Sal...who do you think you're talking to? hehe...when it comes to emulation, I know it all baby! I've got every game I ever wanted for NOTHING! ha! Mame, SNES, Genesis, Gameboy, Gamegear, NES, Atari, TurboGrafx, Neo-Geo...you name it, I got it
This is the first thing I was after when I got my computer. Although at that time I only knew about NES emulation.
MAME (Multi Arcade Machine Emulator) is an emulator for windows that plays all the classic (and even some more recent) arcade games on the PC. The emulator along with all the roms (games) are at: http://www.emux.com
no probs One thing I should tell ya about the arcade emulator games. They're all in zip files, but DON'T unzip them! The emulator plays the games right through the zip file. I found this out the hard way when I first got into it
Until music became more important to me, I´ve spent nearly all of my allowances in those arcade machines.
Begun with Night Driver, Sub-688 and the famous Space Invaders. Later on, it was Asteroids, Defender, Space Zap, Pole Position and so on...the last arcade I really enjoyed was Vendetta, a violent but somehow funny Beat-em-up.
Ahhhh, The Days when arcades had life. I would spend hours on in playing The Double Dragon Trilogy, Whipping Ass In Street Fighter 2, Bashing Evil Demons In Golden Axe, Driving Like A Maniac In Outrun. Those where the days

But, I haven't played Donkey Kong since '91!
It's been a while for me too. Since '89!! Ahhhh, the memories of the ladders, barrels, jumps and that princess!!! A classic in every sense of the word!!
I know...they included that original version on Donkey Kong 64 for N64....think I had just as much fun playing that old classic trying to beat my high scores than the regular game at times
