Hey Y'all,

Di any of y'all watch "He-Man" in the 80's?

This was a show (w/Transformers) that a group of us would watch after school. Skeletor was a favorite of mine, always! Stole the show in my opinion! :thumb:

There was a lot of merchandise that came out to support the show, remember stretchers? Those wrestlers or cartoon characters you could grab and stretch the hell out of? I remember there being a "He-Man" stretcher! :)

Yes. I had a number of the figures (I went from Star Wars figures to MotU) and went out as Skeletor for Halloween '83.

Remember the Evil Horde Slime Pit? We had that! It worried our parents to no end because of all the warnings it came with about keeping it away from hair, carpet, etc. We had to play "slime the action figure" in the kitchen.

My #1 favorite cartoon of the 80's....I'm still waiting for them to get off their lazy arses and release the episodes on DVD DAMMIT!! :hammer: I've been wanting to watch that show again for so long...that would be major nostalgia for me to see that again  I had damn near the entire collection of figures and castles and everything as a kid...all lost to the passing of time and not enough storage space sadly enough :p

"By the power of Grayskull!!"

Nah don't remember it. lol

He-Man was a great show, but it's one of those shows you watched back then, and rewatching it years later it just isn't the same. The show doesn't hold up nearly as well as other '80s toons like Transformers or G.I. Joe. Plus it's weird watching a show about a big oily guy running around in his loin cloth.

Yeah, even as a kid I found it odd that whenever Skeletor charged he always fell for He-Man's "back drop" move (recycled animation). Lucy at least had to first promise not to pull the football away on Charlie Brown...

Trap Jaw was a pretty cool character with all those interchangable weapon hands.

She-Ra was better!!!!!! lol At least in my opinion. ;) Loved He-man though.

He-Man really kicked off the merchandise/cartoon cross promotion that dominated the 80s - God Bless It! Years later, Transformers, G.I. Joe, Thundercats, etc. would dominate my afterschool viewing hours, but He-Man really started the ball rolling.

What about the Ninja Turtles? I can't recall which came along first? But, I think you're right, it's a good chance that it was "He-Man".

Ninja Turtles was a late '80s thing that lasted into the '90s. It would probably be considered a '90s toon just because it had so much more success in the '90s, but like most of the great stuff from the '90s and present day(i.e. The Simpsons), you can trace their origins to the '80s. Ninja Turtles ran from 1987-1995 or '96.

A great show to watch:thumb: My favorite character had to be Orko, my favorite mode of transportation the Roton, and my favorite hideout was Snake Mountain:cool:

He-Man definitly for the ball rolling. It came way before the G.I. Joe cartoon, Thundercats, etc. Go-Bots, Transformers, etc were all just riding ont he wave of action figure marketting success. Ninja Turtles (or Hero Turtles if you're from the U.K.) took that formula and gave it it's last hoorah I think, aside from the short-lived Batman fad in the mid-90's, Ninja Turtles was the only show to move into that decade and pull off the same level of success He-Man started back in the 80's. On top of that it was just cool :) (up till about late 91 when it started to really suck, but all Saturday morning programming went downhill then. ABC, ABC, why hast thou forsaken me?)

The first Turtles movie was pretty cool too. Too bad the second one wasn't. The third was just flogging a dead horse.

Who doesn't remember He-man?? If you don't then you are NOT from the 80's  there was just way too much merchandising to forget him :)

I always loved She-ra more than He-man, but that could just be because I am a girl and it appealed to me more. My fav He-man character was Battlecat, I recently got some She-ra episodes on tape as well as the cross-over He-man/She-ra movie :thumb:

I always held the belief that the cartoon had a gay subtext to it. Adam(He-Man) had a special "secret" that he kept. He never shared his "special" secret execpt for a few characters so he could not come "out of the closet". He always like holding his magic sword. That Skeletor was really meaning that he had "skeletons" in the closet. I am sorry folks, that everyone has been duped that it was a normal cartoon but it really is not. It is just cleverly disguised homo-erotic cartoon. I do nor subscribe to conspiracy theories but this one is too obvious.

I was a huge He-Man fan as a kid. I had every figure (up until around the time of the Snake Men), all of the castles, vehicles, etc. I saw both movies in theaters (live action and animated). I remember being incredibly psyched when the Prince Adam figure finally came out because then I could do the "transformation" with the toys.

Ahh....Good times.......

How can anyone not like He Man! It was great!! I too am hoping it will be released to DVD. I'll buy all of it. The art was very nice, the plot was intricate. There were so many characters and they were well developed in more ways than one ;) My favorite character was the Sorceress because she could turn into Zoar the Falcon (which looked more like an eagle than a falcon.). I made a costume of her once for Halloween because there weren't any. I've always liked the more obscure characters over the main ones. Too bad she wasn't more powerful. Her magic was pretty weak.

I always liked Orko. I sometimes wonder why they didn't put him in the 1987 Masters of the Universe movie

My brother Eldon use to love that show. I thought it was pretty cool too, but didn't watch it much myself. It was most certainly a 'boy/guys' cartoon. :)
