After my li'l venture down Poll-road I've become curious as to wether or not you guys & gals actually read the posts in a thread before voting ??? Why you ask, well take a look at this POLL (http://80sxchange.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=9670)

I'm not pissed of or mad I'm just very surprised to see how many people actually got this poll all wrong, and seem to have voted without reading any of the posts, so out with it...Do ya read posts before voting, or do you go for the vote and then read posts and reply ????

I know this may be in the wrong forum, but I just think our hardworking mods could use a li'l extra something to do ;) :D

well i only read the first post, and then vote...so does that mean i should vote yes or no or sometimes? i voted yes anyhow

like your example there....i didn't vote on that one cause i don't really know any simple minds songs except for don't you....

I will read the posts sometimes. Often, I vote before I read the posts, so as not to be influenced by what other people have written!!!

Most of the time I do. I have to admit, anything more than a couple paragraphs I usually skim over. Course, that goes for anywhere. :D

No, I do not read the posts first. I do not want to be influenced by what people are saying. I take it, that if someone took the time to make a poll then they must want MY opinion. They do not want me saying the same thing or voting the same way just because that is what the rest of the group said is cool.:goofy:

Good question Smurf!

Well, I 'sometimes' read the other posts before voting, but I tend to vote first on what I like or know. Your Simple Minds poll, for example, was cool and all, but I'll be the first to admit, I didn't know that many songs by them, only three, but I did pick my favorite from those. I pick my favorites, that's all I do, and sometimes it just happens to be the big hit or the general vote, but it's my genuine vote nonetheless. :)

That's how I feel. I didn't know many of the songs listed. Later after I had voted, I realized if you had put "Sanctify Yourself" on the list I probably would have voted for that one. I had forgotten about that song until someone had brought it up in the thread later. What can I say, I love the song "Don't You Forget About Me". So, sometimes I read the post. Depending on how much time I have to post and all.

Sometimes. I actually read your post in the Simple Minds poll. I just read it wrong

I voted yes because I gives me an idea of what to say and there might be posts that I agree with and want to add or say what the person had said. I want to be influenced just on how to say things and put into words. But nobody influences on how I vote. thank you.

*yells @ myself; FOR SHAME!!*

Sorry, I don't know how Sanctify yourself slipped that poll...

Myself...Well I usually decide where to cast my vote, then I read replys, before actually voting. Like Scott I like to see what others have posted to get a feel of the thread, maybe find a good quote and to avoid posting the exact same answer as others have :p

I try not to read the posts before I vote, but then I do read them before I reply. I agree with what Scott said. I don't want to sound too repetitive in my reply.

I speed read through everything since I go through pretty much everything that's posted on the forums as a whole  Only way I can get through it all, so sometimes I miss these little details :p

I always read the first post and sometimes i will vote immediately after that or once I have read through all the posts. But I won't post a message until I have read everything first.

I always read the first post, no matter what. If I'm in a rush, I only read the first post, then reply. If I have time, I'll read the whole thread. :)

I tend to vote first, then read the posts. Or just read the first post and then vote.

The first thing I do in a poll is just VOTE; maybe I don't want to have the influence of anyone in my votes... I read the posts after voting.

I like to vote first without reading the posts. I find it's so much easier to do since the vote button is the first thing that you see anyway and then it is also my own opinion. I read the posts afterwards and find out what everybody else thinks.

ValJ

Wow, isn't this interesting!?! I figured everyone would at least read the first post before they did anything. The first post is by the person who made the poll, so it has all of their ideas and what they expect from the poll. It never occurred to me not to read it. If it were your poll, and there was a certain criteria you hoped to gain, you'd want people to read your first post, right? ;)

Of course, this is just my opinion, and you know what they say about those.....

I always vote before reading other people's posts. Simply because I want my vote to be mine and not fall into the general consensus trap.

I always read the first post. Then I will go back and read all of the thread.

BTW the coffee you should be able to smell is black and with tons of sugar :biglick:

I read the first post, then vote, and after voting I will look at the other posts to see who voted what. Like Flix and Guancho said (see, i read the posts after voting!) i vote first before reading all the posts to not be influenced by a common opinion. Or rather like 80s smurf added, trying to be individualistic.

Interesting which ways the Simple Minds poll went. I haven't taken it yet, but still, this mistake probably wouldn't have happend to me as I wouldn't have voted for "Don't you" anyway, if it is up for voting or not. :D You know waht, i will go and post my vote there NOW!

I usually only read the first post, unless the thread is one I've already replied to and I notice others replying afterwards. I have made the mistake of misreading or interpreting some threads and thus posting with remarks that other members have had to write me pm's to tip me on editing my post, because I misunderstood the question of the thread or shall I say, I was tired and didn't fully read everything, just skimmed through.

straight into the voting as way too impatient.
