View Full Version : Favorite Run DMC song?
Hey Y'all,
These guys were the first rappers to do a lot, appear on "Saturday Night Live" first, first rappers to appear on "Rolling Stone", etc...so what is your favorite song?
80sTrivia 3-30-02, 11:17 AM My vote went to "My Adidas". I had a group of friends who all had Adidas shirts and shoes, and they would go around singing this song whenever they wore them. They were known as the Adidas Boyz Club for the longest time... :D
djdaffy1227 3-30-02, 12:49 PM My all time favorite Run-D.M.C. song is "King of rock". I loved Run-D.M.C. up until tougher than leather. They kinda sold out on that album.
They were the first rap group to have a gold album as well.
"It's Tricky" We used to totally rock out to this song on the way to Soccer practice.
this charming man 3-30-02, 06:46 PM I voted for WAlk This Way since it was in the eighties. The song I like the best now is the remixed version of It's Like That which was out a couple of years ago.
Christine 3-30-02, 09:36 PM Definitely "Walk This Way" w/Aerosmith! :thumb:
Ted Nugent 3-30-02, 10:17 PM I went with "Walk this way". :p
I voted for the ever popular "Walk This Way", great song and it helped revive Aerosmith's career as well as help push RUN DMC into the mainstream! :thumb:
angeleyes25 3-31-02, 06:13 PM Walk This Way.
ImSoooSure 4-03-02, 12:59 AM Mine is It's Tricky. Fun song! They play it in that movie Can't Hardley Wait. They play a lot of good 80s music in that movie, which surprised me.
Steve Savicki 4-09-02, 07:31 PM It's Tricky
Great octave guitar note changes.
I picked It's Tricky, but I like many of the others as well.
Have you seen the movie Road Trip? It has Tom Green in it along with the guy from American Pie. There's a scene where the 'nerd' in the group is dancing to "It's Tricky" Funny stuff!!
Roemello 4-20-02, 12:32 AM Yeah, I saw that movie...fairly humorous  And they even threw a few 80's tunes in there which is always a plus :)
Anywho, I went with 'It's Tricky' as well

Definately. RUN DMC had to be the most popular rap group in the '80s, and one of the few with such a large mainstream audience. It seemed like nearly everyone was a fan of theirs back then.
I voted for Walk This Way. I really liked the video back then.
I also really liked the Jason Nevins remix of It's Like That from 1997/98.
psychocandy 5-29-02, 05:36 PM "It's Tricky!"
Prefab Sprouter 6-07-02, 04:37 AM Because It's like that and thats the way it is. Loved the original and the Jason Nevins Dance Mix!
I voted for "Walk This Way" with "It's Tricky" as a close second.....
nolanbuc 6-07-02, 04:55 AM I had to go with "Walk This Way". Run DMC was the first rap group that I really remember paying attention to.
Det.RicardoTubbs 6-07-02, 07:29 AM Another vote for Walk This Way. My first exposure to rap and the first time I ever "saw" Aerosmith" was the video. I still listen to this song...
kangaRoos 8-19-03, 08:11 AM You be Illin'
Greenway88 8-19-03, 08:15 AM Other: You Be Illin'
Christine 8-19-03, 08:17 AM Christmas In Hollis is an awesome song too. :D
"It's Tricky to rock a rhyme to rock a rhyme that's right on time.." :D I love that song!
"Walk This Way" is a classic, but I have to vote for "Christmas in Hollis".
I'd forgotten about "You Be Illin'" or I probably would have voted for that one.
DJ Midas 8-21-03, 03:31 PM Have to go with "Peter Piper". Love that track.
Now if I can only find another copy on vinyl in excellent condition, maybe I'll open up my re-release...
whistledog 11-28-04, 05:54 PM I always loved Christmas in Hollis
I always loved Christmas in Hollis
I like it, too. I'm sure I'll be hearing quite often on the radio, since Christmas is fast approaching.
Rhelawen 11-28-04, 07:42 PM My vote went to Walk this Way with Aerosmith. I think it's fun and very catchy!! :thumb:
Tanya1976 12-03-04, 05:23 PM It's Tricky, Followed by King of Rock
ObiDave 12-03-04, 05:30 PM Rock Box, with King of Rock as a close 2nd.
PunkyPower 12-03-04, 05:35 PM "It's Tricky" followed by "Walk This Way." This thread brought back some memories. When I was in junior high and sentenced to ride the bus to school, this kid named Johnny used to bring his Run DMC cassette to play for the ride. The bus had a tape deck, so pretty much every morning we were jammin' to Run DMC.
Cool Hand Logan 12-04-04, 07:41 PM Walk This Way (w/Aerosmith)
Not a big fan of rap but this one is cool! :thumb:
galaga-girl 12-05-04, 04:28 PM It was a toss up between Walk this way and It's like that. I chose the latter because It has a fantastic beat to it and I love the clip, when the guys wig come off
I voted for "Walk This Way" with "It's Tricky" and "It's Like That" right behind...
Either Raising Hell or Can You Rock It Like This, but you also left off the one that started it all - Rock Box
Xcess-N-Htown 2-11-05, 06:15 PM Its like that is my fave, though all of them are good!
In December 2004, I bought Run-DMC's Greatest Hits album--the CD edition, that is. It was the first Run-DMC album I had bought since 1987. That year, I bought Run-DMC's 1985 album, King Of Rock. It was the cassette edition (I still have it), and I bought it at Camelot Music (which is now known as FYE: For Your Enjoyment?).
Darkhaven 2-12-05, 10:23 AM Sucker MC's for me. LL Cool J may have perfected battle rap, but Run DMC started it all.
Rhiannon73 2-13-05, 02:11 PM My vote goes to It's Tricky-great song!
Play@yourownrisk 3-14-05, 10:11 AM It'a tricky tricky tricky tricky
Foreigner 4-13-05, 05:40 AM Its like that is 80s? man i saw the clip like around 10 years ago....with breakdancers and stuff....and it topped the charts that time...
but i like the song anyhows..and its tricky is good too
I have to say Rock Box. I like Sucker MC's and all the others and Christmas in Hollis is SHHHHWEEEEEETTTT! but when you put on Rock Box...... the vocals and the Guitar licks MAN!!! What other rap group used rock like they did.
Miss INXS 4-30-05, 11:42 PM I vote went to It's Tricky. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/wink.gif
I've never been a big Rap fan. But I liked Walk this way w/ Aerosmith.
Miss INXS 5-11-05, 02:48 AM I don't usually listen to rap, but I kinda like It's Tricky though. I've heard their version of Walk this way too, but I didn't care much for it. I also favor Aerosmith's original version. :thumb:
Good Vibes 5-12-05, 03:25 AM It's Tricky. Now that's some good hip hop!
Play@yourownrisk 5-12-05, 07:56 AM Howizit? It's Tricky Tricky Tricky Tricky
fungirl3 5-12-05, 01:09 PM Mary, Mary, why ya buggin'? Followed by It's Tricky and Sucka MC's (you just ain't right)
Poindexter 5-12-05, 10:40 PM Walk This Way
80s hair 5-13-05, 10:29 AM "Mary, Mary" all the way!! :thumb:
thisorthat 5-13-05, 06:03 PM "It's tricky", "walk this way"?!? what a joke. "You be illin" is much better if you like that genre of overproduced catchy stuff for the masses.
Come on...You didn't list rock box the first rap song with a guitar riff?!?
What about "shut up"? or "dumb girl"?
Clearly the most creative, skilled, and greatest song by RUN DMC was "Peter Piper"
The deepest is "It's like that" so I would agree to having it on the list.
My favorite though is "Son of Byford" Leading into "I'm proud to be black y'all" just has a place in my heart somewhere...
Bananabozorg 6-21-05, 10:59 PM Rock Box rules like no other! Everytime I hear that beat and the guitars, it takes me back to the mid 80's and the skating rink.
80's fanatic 7-10-05, 10:43 PM Walk this Way w/ Aerosmith followed by ' It's Tricky'
frothy latte 10-11-05, 05:30 PM Walk This Way (w/ Aerosmith)
