View Full Version : Your Favorite 80s Song by Kenny Rogers
Greenway88 3-28-02, 07:41 AM Admit it, You heard enough Kenny Rogers songs on your parents radio station that at least one of them has stayed with you.
Here are his highest charting songs of the 80s. Which is your favorite?
I choose Love Will Turn You Around.
80sTrivia 3-28-02, 08:41 AM I voted for "Islands in the Stream" with Dolly Parton. This is just a great 80s duet, and their voices and styles are perfectly matched. "Love Will Turn You Around" is also a great song as well...
this charming man 3-28-02, 09:15 AM Did he sing "Coward Of The County", that would be my favourite.
I voted for "We've Got Tonight" with Sheena Easton. I had the 45 to this single and it was one of Kenny's best duets, aside from Dolly's! :thumb:

Yes he did, but that was from the 70s.
Steve Savicki 3-28-02, 03:07 PM "Islands In The Stream" (w/ Dolly Parton)
Looked forward to that every time they played it on our soft rock station 101.5 fm KEJO .
djdaffy1227 3-28-02, 03:21 PM You'd think as a DJ of hundreds of weddings, that I would be sick of "Through the years" but I'm not. That was my pick. I want it sung at my wedding (when I get married).
BTW, "Coward of the county" reached it's peak in 1980 making it an 80's hit in my eyes :)
scott28883 3-28-02, 03:43 PM I voted for "we've got tonight" with sheena easton.
An absolute classic and a great song to play for the lady you love!

Then that confirms it as my favourite.
"..Hey look Ole Yellows Leaving.
You could've heard a pin drop as he turned to cross the floor.."
sends shivers down my spine
Iluvthe80s 3-28-02, 05:49 PM I voted for "We've Got Tonight".
Prefab Sprouter 6-13-02, 05:09 AM I voted for Lady. I'm not a fan at all and this would be the one I like the most!
Islands In The Stream - the only other one I know is We've Got Tonight which is also good but I prefer "Islands" :)
Therrall 6-13-02, 07:47 AM "Lady" has Always been my Favorite Kenny Rogers song, so it got my vote :)
DC Rebel 6-13-02, 10:11 AM I would have to vote for his duet with Dolly Parton, "Islands in the Stream."
I remember when "Islands in the Stream" came out. I absolutely hated it. I couldn't understand what was so appealing about it, it seemed like a stupid song.
But then it grew on me and now is one of my favourites of Dolly and Kenny's.
Roemello 8-27-03, 12:37 AM Don't remember most of his songs, but of those few I do, my pick would have to be Lady
Rhelawen 8-27-03, 08:01 AM Lady gets my vote in this poll, however, my all-time favorite Kenny Rogers song is The Gambler, which was released in 1978, I think. Feel free to correct me if I'm wrong. :)
"Love The World Away". The lyrics are really beautiful, plus it's on the Urban Cowboy soundtrack and I love the scene that movie when it's playing...
In addition to the songs mentioned, here are a few other reasons why I could never pick a favorite from Kenny:
Lucille (corny, and I love every second of it)
She Believes In Me
You Decorated My Life
Goodbye Marie
Blaze Of Glory
Love Or Something Like It
Daytime Friends
And the entire Once Upon A Christmas album, because my Dad loved it and the song "I'll Be Home With Bells On" was his favorite Christmas song of all time. :)
Johnny Z 8-27-03, 09:48 PM I'm not really a country person, but I do like "Love Will Turn You Around."
angeleyes25 8-27-03, 10:10 PM Islands In The Stream.
whistledog 10-18-04, 10:28 PM I picked What About Me. A classic tune
I also really liked Coward of the County which was a late bloomer in Canada and did not peak until 1980
Bananabozorg 6-21-05, 01:21 PM I chose "Lady", but I also love the duet he did with Dottie West "What Are We Doin in Love"
80's fanatic 8-02-05, 11:27 PM 'Through The Years' is my favorite, followed by ' Don't Fall In Love With A Dreamer' and ' Lady'
Porters2 8-06-05, 12:55 PM Chose other also, because Coward is by far Kenny's best song from the 80's...you can feel his emotion when you listen to the song, more so than in the others I think.
stlkev70 8-06-05, 04:38 PM I love Through The Years
RichM921 3-10-07, 10:41 PM "Love Will Turn You Around"
As featured in one of my all time favorite '80s movies... "Six Pack"

Great song!! "Through the years" gets my vote.
chooch210 7-03-08, 09:43 PM Don't fall in love with a dreamer, with Lady and Through the years close behind
