View Full Version : Valley Girl
tupper66 3-17-01, 09:05 PM Are there any 'Valley Girl' fans in here? I mean, like, die-hard, fanatical, know-all-the-words-to-the-whole-movie, have-all-the-songs, couldn't-sleep-till-they-bought-the-script, obsessed fans? Cuz I'd LOVE to meet you! I could go on and on (and I do mean on and on) about this movie..... but I'll spare everyone until/unless I find someone else who'd find endless Valley Girl chat interesting. Please let there be someone! Sue
morningmyst 3-17-01, 09:14 PM I wouldn't say that I'm THAT obsessed..but, my signature before this one was of a scene from Valley Girl......Nice to meet you! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//wavey.gif

Ok, I am a big fan (not as big as you though). I just remember watching that movie for the first time and thinking it was the greatest thing ever and I still feel the same way everytime I watch it.
It's one of my all-time favorite movies!
Maria
tupper66 3-19-01, 11:24 PM Woo hoo! 'K, let's talk! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif
Dawn, what was your signature before? When did you guys first see it? I saw it when it hit HBO-- I was babysitting one night and it came on. I'd never even HEARD of Nicolas Cage before then, and by the time the movie was over I was totally in love with him. There was a girl at my school who was SO into the whole valley girl craze-- she even bought this book on valley girl lingo and brought it to school with her every day to study, although at the time I thought she was really damn annoying walking around saying "gag me with a spoon" and stuff all day. But I'd LOVE to find a copy of that book now! I've always dreamed of going to LA (I'm in NY) to visit some of the places from the movie, like the mall, and after years of putting it off, I'm finally all set to go this spring, only to find out they closed the mall! The nerve of them... I'm so depressed. But anyway, what are some of you guys' favorite parts of the movie? (Yes, now that you publicly announced that you like it, I'm going to hound you shamelessly for ~thoughts~ on it.) Share, please!
P.S. Wasn't Nic Cage a hot little stud in it?
Sue
tigerladydeb 3-22-01, 09:28 PM Valley Girl is one of my favorite movies. I have it on tape and watch it every time it is on T.V. I could watch it over and over again. Nicolas Cage what a babe.
Iluvthe80s 5-03-01, 06:30 AM I have seen that movie so many times I have lost count. I own the video and have nearly wore it out. It is just one of those movies you cannot get sick of. I love it. I guess one of the many reasons it defines the 80's plus has some great tunes.
Did you guys see that this great movie was on VH1 last night?

80sTrivia 5-03-01, 01:45 PM Yes, I simply had to watch "VAlley Girl" on VH1 last night... I had totally forgotten how awesome that movie was. And what a bitchin' soundtrack!!! I had also forgotten that E.G. Daley was in the movie as well. What ever happened to Deborah Foreman, anyway!!!

outofplacechild 5-03-01, 06:42 PM I don't know what happenned to Deborah Foreman, but I saw her play a 26-year-old teacher nearing death on an episode of "The Facts Of Life".
I have an unopened copy of "Valley Girl". To tell you the truth, I'm actually waiting for the DVD of this movie. MGM Home Entertainment (owners of this movie through their acquisition of the majority of the Polygram film library) has it lined up for either later this year or some time next year. MGM also has upcoming Special Edition DVDs of "The Sure Thing", "UHF", and "Escape From New York". I've heard that the Bill & Ted movies will be getting good DVD treatment as well. MGM...Great DVD company, but that roaring lion still scares the living hell out of me.
Sincerely,
John "outofplacechild" Kilduff

djdaffy1227 5-03-01, 10:01 PM Believe it or not I've never seen the movie but Rhino has just re-released the soundtrack. What a killer soundtrack."I melt with you""she talks in stereo""Jukebox (don't put another dime)""A million miles away""Johnny are you queer?". Rhino also released a C.D. called More songs from Valley Girl!
I was lucky enough to be home when it was on VH1 the other night.. I had forgotten how cool that movie was, too!! Damn!! The soundtrack WAS awesome!! And I am not a Nicholas Cage fan.. but I thought that he was such a cutie in that movie! (I also liked him in Conair)..
5 stars for Valley Girl!! Like, Totally!

ALL HAIL TO THE ALMIGHTY CREATOR.. SAL IS GOD!
Great movie, like fer sure!!! Saw it at the movies the first weekend it was out - Nicholas Cage! Own it on video. It was the first movie I remember having a character named Stacy - but of course I hated her. Loved the prom scene where Nic Cage banging his head on the wall while Josie Cotton is singing or earlier on when he is in the shower "waiting" after sneaking in and air-shooting all the idiots. Could go on but won't.
morningmyst 5-16-01, 01:49 PM Something that I just realized......oh, Hellloooo, Dawn...is EG Daily is the voice of Tommy Pickles off of Rugrats...Having kids I don't know why I didn't realize this before. She's actually done quite a bit of voice overs...and she's a singer, too!
Oh, and my signature before this one was Nicolas Cage and Deborah Foreman embracing on the beach.....*sigh*
And, Deborah Foreman is still acting. She's going to be in the film...Ice Age? *i think that's what it's called*

Wasn't EG Daily also the girl who played DD in PEE WEES BIG ADVENTURE? I think she was.
morningmyst 5-16-01, 03:05 PM That would be her.....
80sTrivia 5-16-01, 03:44 PM Yes, E.G. Daley did play Dot in Pee Wee's Big Adventure. I recently saw E.G. on an episode of E! Entertainment's True Hollywood story on the life and death of Jon-Eric Hexum, who dies on the set of the 1984 show "Cover Up". E.G. was his girlfriend at the time. She looked very good; she has blonde hair and looks as if she's had her face touched up a bit over the years...

Greenway88 6-04-02, 03:39 PM I finally saw Valley Girl about two weeks ago on Comedy Central's 80s weekend. The movie was ok, but the music was awesome!
Yeah Greenway, for me seeing the film today doesn't hold the same gnarlyness it did back then! Seriously, it's ok, but you have to be in a mood to watch it. I totally agree about the soundtrack, IT'S AWESOME!! This film is the first time I heard Modern English! :thumb:
scott28883 6-05-02, 09:22 PM This movie is great, I have seen it so many times and it doesnt get old. Great soundtrack also.
ImSoooSure 6-06-02, 01:27 AM The movie was ok??? It doesn't hold the same gnarlyness??? Wow, I could watch this movie a million times and still love every min. of it! The end of this movie always makes my heart pitter patter. Corny, I know but what can I say.;)

You are a hopeless romantic!
SouthernImage 3-11-04, 07:37 PM OMG!!!! I remember when that movie first came out. I was a senior in high shool. I was so in love with Nicolas Cage. I had to get it in VHS . Now I have to get the DVD form.
Slayergrrl 3-11-04, 07:54 PM Oh, Man! I did too! I had a major crush on him.

Return to the Valley of the 80s (http://www.SwiftSite.com/80sdude)
E.G. Dailey has done a lot of things in her life. Me and my sis were BIG fans of hers. I have a little story to tell ya. My cousin married E.G. Daley's cousin. ( Yes it's true) I'm a little pissed :grrr: though cause I missed a few family functions when she was there. My sis got to meet her though ( yeah I would like to kick sis's butt for that. lol) I missed out on some good things.*sigh* I guess I shouldn't have went out of town with my boyfriend on those occassions. :dammit: But I think she looks as great as she always did.
Jefferson Starship 3-12-04, 09:25 AM i found the DVD a few months back at Wal mart, I think I will buy it now that I have cash! :D Never see that movie before!
ValleyGirl 3-12-04, 09:30 AM I LOVED the movie, but haven't seen it in ages..I definately have to get it. I remember having a crush on Nicolas Cage too..he still looks pretty damn good ;)
Lord Jay 3-29-04, 09:32 PM Great movie...I likes it because it reminded me alot of my owh High School. Defined divide between the "in" crowd or popular kids and the "New Wavers". It was very clickish and of course there were others represented as well. What was funny was that when we had our first High School reunion (class of 89) everybody was gald to see each other and the "click" thing was out the window. Excellent flick once again btw!!
Lord Jay
Jefferson Starship 3-30-04, 09:15 AM I'm back from Wal Mart and I buy this DVD and i'm very happy of this because it sounds like an awesome movie. i watch the firsts 15 min and I already like it big time!! The bonus are awesome on the movie but holy cow the french traduction is a little bit poor si I think I will watch it in his original version! :thumb: :D
I will be back another time with a little review!! :)
BCRichRocker4JC 8-15-04, 12:12 PM I was thinking of posting a new thread on this but thought I'd do a search first and see if anyone posted it before. And they did. I just wanted to comment on how cool I thought this movie was. I'm not a Nicholas Cage fan but thought he did a good job in this movie. The main thing I thought was cool is that two people from two different genre's could have a realtionship. Back in the day most Waver girls would not even think about dating anyone besides a surfer or Waver guy let alone a punker. But this movie shows different. And since I always thought New Wave girls were the hottest and I was a Musician/Metaler it was a cool fantasy to see one (well a Valley Girl, but most of them were Wave too) give another guy a chance (I would've dated any girl I was attracted to, though. That's all that mattered to me. Metal, Waver, Punk, School Girl whatever). Nowadays it probably is different for teenagers as there isn't much diversity anymore and it doesn't seem so cliqueish as in the 80's.
ironeagle1 8-15-04, 11:48 PM I lived in the area when I was a kid when this movie was made. The Sherman Oaks Galleria where scenes of the movie suffered allot of damage during the 1994 earthquake. Eventually they tore it down and put up a "psudo" mall. Allot of the people in the film were heros and ate in the same restaurants I frequented. It was very neat to them all. Everytime I see the movie, it brings back awesome memories of the 1980s.
ImSoooSure 8-16-04, 12:01 AM This is prob. my favorite movie from the 80s. I love the scenery, the stars, the clothing... EVERYTHING!
80s confession... I don't think I've ever seen it.
Nikki_91 8-21-04, 04:31 PM "They have words for girls like me..they names but I don't wanna use 'em"..
One of the reasons I liked Valley girl was for that opening song...a good 80's movie always seems to start with a good opening song..
Like, Oh my gawd..I like, totally love the movie Valley Girl, like fer sure! Have the soundtrack, volumes one and two..memorized the words to all the songs. I think I even have the movie memorized because I've seen it so many times. First scene Nic Cage is in..the one on the beach..wow!! He's totally hot!
EG Daily was on Pee Wee's Big Adventure. She's also a singer..any "Better Off Dead" fans around here? Well, she's the singer in the band at the Christmas Dance at the high school! I kid you not!!! Big hair and all!! Check it out! She was also recently on the E! channel show called "Star Dates". I love that show too.
Well, I've rambled on enough..then again we're talking about 80's stuff..so there's really never enough of talking about that.
Laters! Nikki, Ultimate Valleygirl fan!
