Which of these one-hit wonder artists do you feel deserved to have more than one hit?

I went with Murray Head on this one.

I voted for Icehouse, one of my favorite bands of all time! I'm not sure how many hits they had here in the States; "Electric Blue" is the only one that I remember hearing on the radio. But I loved so many of their other songs, especially "Crazy", "No Promises" and "Great Southern Land", all fantastic songs!!! :)

Of the ones listed, I voted for Thomas Dolby, "Hyperactive" was such a fantastic song it's hard to see why he didn't succeed.

I voted for Jane Wieldlin. "Rush Hour" was a great song and she should have had more hits than just that one.

I voted for Jane Wiedlin, I like her voice even when she talks she sounds sexy. I wish she could have done more vocals during her GoGo days. The best part of Our Lips Are Sealed is when Jane sings:)

I voted other, for Charlene of "I've Never Been To Me" fame. Her voice was excellent and the whole first side of the album was magnificent!! I'm surprised she didn't fare better on the ears of listeners.

Loved "One night in Bangkok". Still gets a lot of air play in New Zealand. I also remember another song of his about a bank robbery or something? Can't remember the name of it, but it was quite funny.

I'm surprised you included Ice House as one hit wonders. I know in New Zealand they had a string of hits. Perhaps they didn't do that well up North.

i went for Icehouse for sounding like Roxy Music!!!

unfortuatley Tracy Ullman blessed us with a few more dreadful tunes in the 80's.

Actually Icehouse had 2 hits around here. Back in 1988 when Electric Blue came out, you heard Crazy almost as much. I had forgotten about it until I bought the overpriced CD.

Not sure if Crazy was a top 40 or not, but during that year, you heard it all the time where I lived. I think it was Q105 that was playing all the latest. They have changed names and formats at least 4 times since the 80's, and now all you hear on there is Backdoor Boys, Britney Spears, and Out Of Sync.

Needless to say, they SUCK!

I find this very interesting. I have been watching the polls and noticing that artists that score minor success here in the states, like Icehouse, have larer success in a foreign market, that just strikes me odd.

That always seems to be the case, Wonder Twin. The US is such a difficult market to crack and to maintain success within that it is sometimes easier for an artist or group to concentrate on the overseas markets. Just ask Kylie Minogue!!! :D

Grrrrrr.....Kylie, she's beautiful, I'll give her that, but I know what you mean! Her popularity is mainly overseas, but it works the other way too, just look at Debbie Gibson, big here for a while and then an international or rather Japan and European artist. :)

Icehouse! Most of their albums are brilliant. They are definitely one of the best kept secrets of the 80's unless you lived down under.

Icehouse definitely.
You guys missed a few good songs by them. Not that I liked them much but they did have some good stuff.

I'd also go with Kylie. Soooo many hits here and in England but basically nothing in the US. Poor guys you are!!! :D

Another vote for Icehouse.

They made so many good songs. They deserved more recognition outside Australia.

such a great selection

Murray Head - Actor, Brother of Anthony (Giles in Buffy) apparently quiet successful, didn't take to the 'pop lark' so dropped out of his own accord.

Thomas Dolby - Windpower, Hyperactive, Blinded me with Science, all hits in the UK (as far as i know, windpower certanly warrented a top of the pops appearance) but Hyperactive was the biggie, I also like Airhead, a great 'slipped disc'. Much under-rated, except by enthusiasts of electronic music.

Michael Penn - No Myth was a wonderful track, no myth, no big hit here, no sound of since!

Tracey Ullman - Several hits in the UK (breakaway, they don't know) but definately a 1 LP wonder Then she broke in america and dissapeared for-ever (except turning up on american tv shows from time to time)

Jane Wiedlin - Rush hour made an impression here, but she's better known as the Go-Go that co-wrote 'our lips are sealed' with terry hall, or Joan of Arc in the Bill and Ted movie. Her lack of further success is frankly criminal

Icehouse - 'Hey little girl' was the only bone-fide hit over here, though 'crazy' was defiantly a radio play fave, i'm not sure it was a big hit here. Certainly they had the songs to make it.

Icehouse and Thomas Dolby are the two acts that i know had the songs to do it

I went with other - King. I only really know that "Love And Pride" song he did.

I know more than one song by most of those artists listed in the poll with the exception of Murray Head and probably Michael Penn. :p

I'd have to go with Murray Head. One Night in Bangkok is defintely a great part of the Post-ABBA Hall of Fame :thumb:

NOTE: In http://www.webfitz.com/lyrics/canFlag.gif Canada, Both Thomas Dolby and Icehouse had three top 40 hits each :)

Definitely John Parr!
This PARR*JOHN/itemid=1367642]entire CD (http://www.cdnow.com/from=sr-181894/cgi-bin/mserver/SID=515359992/pagename=/RP/CDN/FIND/album.html/artistid=[I) is excellent front to back, not just "Naughty Naughty[/I]".

While "Naughty,Naughty" is a great release :) I think "Running the Endless Mile" is even better! :thumb: Besides the title track there's "Two Hearts(American Anthem theme),"Blame It On the Radio" and in my opinion one of his absolute best songs..."Steal You Away! ;)

I go with Tracey Ullman... I really like her and I love her HBO shows. Her popular song in 1984 'They don't know' was such a cool song and also the video feauturing Paul McCartney in a supermarket. I guess her second release which I like 'Move Over Darling' was not a big hit but she sang with just pure class. :dance2:

Thomas Dolby is here in Holland also a one Hit wonder, but with a different song. I scare myself. I love this song. If you can try to listen to it. It is like a ballad but different.

I voted Jane Wiedlin. RUSH HOUR still gets me grooving in my seat!!!!!! I could be wrong, but, I'm pretty certain she had something to do with Fun Boy Three (I could be wrong on this, so don't shoot me)

I voted "other", the other being Red Rider, but I heard quite a bit of Icehouse in the 80's. "Icehouse" got a pretty fair amount of play in the early 80's while "Crazy" and "Electric Blue" were popular around 1986 or so.

Definitely Murray Head. The others did have more success. What about Peter Godwin and his song Images Of Heaven? Anybody heard of that one? Seen the sexy video? It is still one of my all time favorites.

I don't find it odd at all.
Even today, if you compare the music chart of the US with the music chart of Europe, you will see that there are major differences. Europeans have always been tackier, and always loved the more popish sound to music, and me too! I have been doing my own research for one hit wonders, and I came upon a book called "One hit wonders of the 70's and the 80's". I found it at a site called "FetchBook". I purchased the book with almost 20% reduction, and if you are an 80's fan - you would love it too. The book can be found in: http://www.fetchbook.info/fwd_description/search_0793550513.html
Let me know what you thought. One of my favorite 80's one hit songs is Desirable with "Voyage, Voyage". I thought it had a really unique sound to it...

Hard one to call - shame that Thomas Dolby didn't build on his success of his hit "She Blinded Me With Science" which I thought people thought of as a novelty hit, as it featured Magnus Pyke.

He's had quite a few UK hits, including "Windpower" and "Radio Silence"

I voted for Thomas Dolby.

I voted for Icehouse because that had 2 hits--Crazy & Electric Blue. However, unlike most, I consider a song a hit if it placed anywhere on a Billboard chart and/or if it is one that gets constant radio play but didn't chart.
