View Full Version : House Or Harley? Help!
Savedge1 3-17-02, 08:37 AM The hubby and I have been contemplating buying a bigger house. Actually I planted that idea and he's finally become receptive to it. We've shopped around and found a deal that just may work for us. However, I found a great deal on a Harley and I've always wanted one. Hubby doesn't mind and is receptive to me living out a dream I've always had. We've had many discussions about our future and children aren't in the picture. Anway, if you were in the same predicament, which would you chose and why?
Jughead Jones 3-17-02, 09:07 PM Well...I'm a 20 year old college student, so I won't be in your situation anytime soon.;)
If children are not in the picture...I think you need to ask yourself an important question being that be the case. Do you really need a lot of space if it is going to be the two of you there...
If yes, I would go with the house.
If no, buy the bike!
Caligula 3-17-02, 09:11 PM I'm still in the materialistic greed of the 80's. I'd choose the new bigger house, but thats my opinion, I've always thought having a big house was important just as both a place to live and a way to make some money.
Iluvthe80s 3-17-02, 10:35 PM In my personal situation I would pick the house because I am currently living in a one bedroom apartment. In your case though, you already have a house so you might consider getting the Harley if you don't already have one.
space-invader 3-18-02, 03:06 AM well it sounds like you will eventually get both, it is just a question of which you want first, and how long it will take to get the other...so let's say you can buy one and the other in 2 years time
can you get by living in your current house for 2 years?
or
can you get by without a harley for 2 years?
if this time period is only 1 or 2 years, i'd go for the harley, any longer, i'd go for the house
that's discounting any financial considerations
D A N I E L L E 3-18-02, 11:06 AM If you currantly own a homw, what are the reasons you want to move? If you are comfortable in your current home and you aren't in a rush to do much. I would opt for the bike, not a bike a Harley. I am in the real estate field, I am not sure how it is in Texas, but I can tell you if you lived in New York you would wait a bit. The market is insane! :goofy:
fiya kraka 3-18-02, 08:14 PM Head out on the Highway.......BORN TO BE WILD! I'd get the Harley! :thumb:
I am also a homeowner, and I tell ya if I have the opportunity to get a bigger house or a Harley.. I'm gettin the bike.
You can always put an addition on the house :D
I say live your dream!
VioletFoxx 3-18-02, 09:32 PM Well Sav, you know what I think. You already have a house, and you guys haven't been there that long. I haven't even gotten to visit yet!
Go for the Harley, woman! Ya know you'll regret it forever if ya don't. :D
Let's see. I have owned a home and owned a bike. I still own the bike! If you already have a home and no real reason for needing a bigger place, then get the bike. It's a whole new kind of freedom. :)
I do have children so I would choose the bigger house. But if you don't have any kids and really don't need a bigger house then what is stopping you from getting the Harley. You have to consider that you will not be able to ride that bike much.. i mean..you could ride it in your ealry 60's but it is not going to keep you warm when you are old and grey. Get what I mean?
tracyscotch 3-19-02, 08:10 AM Go for the Harley, if you have the chance to get it now. There's loads more houses around than there are classy bikes!! Enjoy yourself now before those kids do come along.
Ted Nugent 3-19-02, 04:24 PM I'd say if your planning on kids in then ear future, then I'd go with a bigger house. Everyone can use a bigger house. :p
BUT, nothing can compare to a nice, beautiful, Harley. They should be worshipped. hehe I'd say go for the bike if that's what will make you happier, only happiness counts in decisions like that. (Unless kids are involved, then they come first) (no not CUM TC! LOL)
Mr. Badd 3-19-02, 06:15 PM Look, if you buy the bike, it'll make you both so horney, that you'll have kids in the next 10 months.
Savedge1 3-20-02, 07:51 PM Hmmmm, all very good points. Thanks you guys.
Well, I decided to go for the house and get the bike in a couple of years after my truck is paid off. The market in Dallas isn't half bad and the interest rates are so good. Once we move, we won't need to move again for a really long time, if at all. The house is almost 2,000 square feet so there's plenty of room for rugrats when the time comes. Wanna get that out of the way while we still can (gettin' a great deal if it all works out).
Space-invader, you're right. It's not a matter of if just a matter of when. No doubt that I will have both. I'm a spoiled brat. :D
Foxxy, you're right so I'm not going to live my life for too much longer without a bike.
Fiya kraka, unfortunately we can't add too much onto our existing home. Our deed restrictions are pretty strict and our homeowners association sucks. Too bad we don't live in an older neighborhood where that kind of stuff isn't an issue.
Danielle, I here what you're saying but things must be pretty crazy in NY. Texas is one of the best housing markets in the country. It is much cheaper to own here than it probably is in NY. You can get a pretty decent size house for $75/sq ft to $90/sq ft depending on the location and type of house. And we're talking built from scratch new. I would think that real estate would be harder to come by in NY.
Caligula, I never left the 80's materialistic stage of my life. Hehehe. Still planning to get that Lamborghini someday. NOT! ;)
Thanks again. I appreciate everyone's feedback. Believe me, when I do get that Harley....I'm definately posting some pics. You may not be able to see the chrome for my big ole smile.
fiya kraka 3-20-02, 08:09 PM Hey Savedge!
That's cool, you went with the house. :thumb:
I hope it all works out for you! *keeping fingers crossed*
