Do you remember this song from the eighties. It was by Laurie Anderson.
It was kind of weird and sounded like it only used a trumpet which played the same note every second. This meant most people either loved it or hated it. I think it was about 8 minutes long. I'm sure it made No 1 in the UK.
Was it successful anywhere else?

I remember this song ,TCM... It was by avant-garde singer/musician Laurie Anderson... not to be confused with blonde actress (and Burt Reynolds ex-wife) Loni Anderson! :) I was able to find out some information on Laurie, which you can check out by going Here! (http://www.digitalcentury.com/encyclo/update/anderson.html) :)

Thanks for the info 80's Trivia, I wasn't sure about the name. I just remember the song because it used to almost hypnotise me into listening to it.
Although a one hit wonder in the singles chart, Laurie Anderson has been anything but a one hit wonder.
She's the sort of artist who has worked on many musical projects in the background without really coming to the fore. I actually bought her 1981 album 'Big Science' from which 'O Superman' came from. She reminded me of a female Gary Numan in some respects.
Laurie recently had a major hand in Jean-Michel Jarre's latest album, the superb 'Metamorphoses' in which she adds some quirky vocal quips during the album. Fans of Laurie really should check this album out, as she and Jean-Michel Jarre blend really well together.
BTW, If I recall correctly 'O Superman' held the record for the longest single in history for a short while?
That was such a weird song and wonderful at the same time. I still have the single on vinyl somewhere. The female Gary Numan is a very good way of describing Laurie Anderson, Chopper.
I think it's the first time I have seen Jean Michel Jarre's name mentioned here on the xchange. What a brilliant musician and the latest album is no exception.

Very weird though!
I have seen one other clip of hers twice, no idea which song it was though. It was a concert clip anyway!

Oh yeah, this one goes in my "scare the living daylights out of me when I was a kid" file. Laurie Anderson's O Superman! gosh! she was pretty much an innovator of synthersizers and samples like Kraftwerk - she used a vocoder on O Superman for her voice.
The clip used to send be packing! there's a bit where she's singing with a light consealed in her mouth - freakin spooky for a little guy!
Her innovations just have to be put in Kraftwerk's league - she has a violin with a record/playback head built-in in which an audio tape loaded bow is drawn across!! far out!! how cool is that!
Are there any other clips you'd care to mention that scared you as a kid???? I can't say this did for me because I don't really remember it as a kid.
