View Full Version : Favourite Laura Branigan song
Laura Branigan was my favourite female solo artist of the 80s. She had a gorgeous voice and not to mention face!
What was your favourite Branigan song?
Mine was "Solitaire" followed very closely by "Lucky One"
Dancingdoll1986 3-15-02, 05:33 PM I voted for Self Control, because it was the first thing I thought of when I saw her name!!!
scott28883 3-15-02, 06:20 PM I voted for "solataire".
djdaffy1227 3-15-02, 06:32 PM "Self control" although they are all good!
Iluvthe80s 3-15-02, 06:39 PM "Solitare" would be my favorite Laura Brannigan song.
Had to go with "Self-Control" followed by "Gloria". Both have a nice upbeat tempo to them:cool:
80sTrivia 3-15-02, 07:02 PM I have Laura Brannigan's Greatest Hits on CD. I've always loved her wonderful voice. I like all of the songs Recker listed, but I voted for "Self Control". I also love "Ti Amo" and "Solitaire"...:)
"Solitaire" was my favorite by Laura Branigan.
Jughead Jones 3-15-02, 09:38 PM I also went with Self-Control.:thumb:
outofplacechild 3-15-02, 10:39 PM I'll "Self-Control".
Now, does anybody have a copy of the controversial William Friedkin-directed video that accompanied this song?
Sincerely,
John "outofplacechild" Kilduff
angeleyes25 3-16-02, 08:29 AM I only heard 3 of those songs from the list.I voted for Gloria it has a nice upbeat tempo like Boggle mentioned.I'm all for upbeat songs.
Silveradocruiser 3-16-02, 12:10 PM 'Self Control' and 'Gloria' were her biggest hits here, but I've always liked Spanish Eddie!:)
Self Control by a clear mile for me. It was such a powerful song, one of my all time favs!!! :thumb:
fiya kraka 3-16-02, 02:33 PM Gloria got my vote:D
Christine 3-17-02, 02:26 PM I voted for "How I Am Supposed To Live Without You". Her voice is very beautiful on this song. :)

Same here. :D
I went with "Ti Amo", simply beautiful. :)
My favorite has been always "Self Control". I love also the italo-disco cover that Raf made of this song.
Steve Savicki 4-16-02, 09:59 AM Considering I had a poll of my own (http://80sxchange.com/forums/showthread.php?threadid=10118), I didn't see this one, but I will go with "Shattered Glass". :)
Between "Ti Amo" and "Solitaire" i had to go with "Solitare"!
I know she made so many good songs, but I had to vote for Self Control. It is such a good song.
Roemello 8-26-03, 02:37 AM Another easy choice poll.... definitely gotta go with Self Control
nolanbuc 8-26-03, 02:50 AM Back then, I woulda said "Gloria", but I got burned out on that song. "Self Control" is my fave now.
Prefab Sprouter 8-26-03, 03:34 AM Wow! Good Poll! I went with "Self Control". A great song from a great artist !!!! :D
BlitzKid 8-30-03, 03:41 PM I love Laura's voice! I always thought it's a shame that she did so many cover versions (liek Ti Amo, Gloria, How am i supposed to live without you) and haven't had good song writers, otherwise she would have been much bigger. Ok, i admit it, i am not a fan of cover versions.
Anyway, as i like RAF's version of Self Control better than her's i voted for Spanish Eddie.
sketcher 9-02-03, 12:48 PM I voted for 'Self Control' (Raf's version is great, too) but I remember liking 'Solitaire' a lot. I just don't remember how it sounds! I haven't heard it since it was released.
Bit of trivia: There's a huge Italian population where I live and when 'Gloria' cam eout, we were a little miffed because Umberto Tozzi, a famous Italian superstar, released that in 1979. I'm assuming he wrote it. But, we still listened to both versions :) Even the Italian radio station played the 2. Fast Forward a bit to when she released "Ti amo"-- another Umberto Tozzi song... GASP! What is that theif doing?? I remember being happy when Raf did 'Self Control'. I heard he covered a whole album of hers, too? a bit of more trivia: RAF is another big star in Italy who first sang in English (Italo disco) then Italian. He also sang on stage with Umberto Tozzi in Toronto: he sang 'Self Control'.
Greenway88 9-29-03, 11:47 AM I'm not a big Branigan fan, but I'll take Solitaire
well, i usually don't like to vote for an artists most popular song, but in this case, i'd have to say "self control" was in a league of it's own. i had had no clue what she was singing about back then, but there is no denying the power of that tune. i'd also like to give an honorable mention to "the lucky one" for being so over-the-top, especially the vocoder part. and "te amo" is very pretty.
Bon Jovi 3-15-04, 03:29 AM #1.) Self Control
#2.) Gloria
whistledog 9-25-04, 02:10 AM She had so many wonderful songs.
I went with Spanish Eddie
a close second would be The Power of Love
Tanya1976 11-12-04, 10:59 PM Gloria, followed by Self-Control
WHAT? Laura Branigan is Dead?
I went with Power of Love.
ahafan02 3-02-05, 01:31 PM WHAT? Laura Branigan is Dead?
I went with Power of Love.
Laura died on August 26th, 2004 of a brain aneurysm.
Anyway, I chose "other" as "Hold Me" is my all time fav Laura song.
I have to thank GTA Vice City for introducing me to "Self Control" and that is my pick. It was also the first thing I thought of when I saw her name.
80s hair 4-08-05, 08:04 PM Self Control gets my vote
80's fanatic 4-08-05, 11:30 PM I picked ' Gloria' :)
Poindexter 5-03-05, 06:48 PM I had all her albums in the 80's. For some reason I really liked her stuff. I'll go with The Lucky One :thumb: They played Gloria and Self Control too death!
I'm dumbfounded that Gloria didn't run away this poll! It's one of the prettiest fast songs I've ever heard.
HOW is Self-Control better than Gloria?
Bananabozorg 6-21-05, 02:04 PM I picked other because "Lovin' You Baby" from her first album is my fav song by her. Such emotion, but then she showed that in all of her songs! "Self "Branigan" was the very first album by anyone that I got.
fungirl3 6-21-05, 02:05 PM Gloriaaaaaaaaaaa! I love that song! She had such a powerful voice!
Cool Hand Logan 7-17-05, 09:59 AM Another vote for "Self Control".
