View Full Version : Hannibal!
Sal Collaziano 2-08-01, 03:09 PM Okay! Who ISN'T going to see this? It's another extension of Silence of the Lambs! Actually, there was a movie BEFORE that one which was really the first one. Can anyone think of the name?

The one before was called "Manhunter". It wasn't that great. I'm going to see Hannibal tomorrow night, I'll give the scoop....
Sal Collaziano 2-09-01, 01:56 PM Thanks Pagan. And yes, you're absolutely right. Manhunter was the name... And not all that great of a movie either. But knowing it was the first in this series makes it interesting..

Well, just got the Special Edition DVD, and Manhunter is even better than when I saw it in UA Glasshouse in San Diego before my senior year. Amazing vision, done by Michael Mann (very viusal director responsible for MIAMI VICE and the 90's genius film HEAT)
reapthewildwind 2-11-01, 07:34 AM HANNIBAL shouldn't be compared to SILENCE or MANHUNTER due to the different style that Ridley Scott gave into it. SILENCE was more of a stylish thriller, not always showing you what was going on and making you think, which can be more scary when you have to imagine, but HANNIBAL puts in right in your face at 100 mph. Everything is shown, nothing left to the imagination too much, which I do find fun, total honesty and directness. Both films great, but HANNIBAL on its own rates 4 STARS. Hopefully people wont' be too full of Jodie in their mind because JULIANNE MOORE rocked and is one sexy white trash Starling.
Sal Collaziano 2-14-01, 07:32 PM Hmm. Unfortunatly, I'd didn't like this movie all too much. It took too long to become interesting to me. Although when it got interesting, it was very interesting - I still liked Silence much better. I guess Silence of the Lambs is more my kind of thing...

Sal Collaziano 2-14-01, 07:32 PM P.S. That part at the end with the BRAIN certainly influenced any positiveness in my feelings. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif

I'm gonna go see it tomorrow - I hear its pretty good, but nothing like the book - I've not read the book so that doesn't phase me too much http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//smile.gif
Sal Collaziano 2-20-01, 07:51 PM They say the book is always better than the movie.. I heard that about Hanibal as well...

Nikki_91 2-20-01, 11:56 PM I have to agree with Sal on this one. This movie was so hyped up that I was expecting it to be majorly suspenseful and more exciting than the first one.
Unfortunatly, this movie highly disappointed me. It was slow paced and dwelled in the past way too much. For those with weak stomachs, I don't recommend this movie at all. I don't get grossed out easily..I could deal with the pigs, bowels in/bowels out..but the brain was too much for my stomach to handle. I give this movie two thumbs down!!

Check ya later-I'm outta here!*Nikki*
I liked the movie fine, but it just didn't compare to it's predecessor "Silence Of The Lambs"! :( Gary Oldman did a great job I thought, the make-up work on him was rather frightful!
Julianne Moore had it rough, she had some big shoes to fill, and the moviegoers were going to scrutinize every move of her performance! She nailed Clarice's voice! :thumb: All in all, "Hannibal" just didn't deliver the goods, but I was glad to see the story continue. Now all we have to do is wait for the prequel called "Red Dragon"!! :thumb: Hopkins is reprising his role as Lecter again. :)
My Obsession 4-14-02, 04:10 PM Hahaha Sal, I see what you mean about the 'brain' scene (Ray Liotta) in that Hannibal movie. I saw it on DVD a few days ago, my opinion was it was just good enough to hold my attention for its duration - but nothing great though.
I wonder what the sequel will be like.. I assume they plan on making one.
angeleyes25 4-15-02, 05:40 PM I like Silence Of The Lambs so I was excited about seeing Hannibal,I just couldn't believe how bad this movie was.Just because a movie has alot of gore in it doesn't make it good.I think someone should tell those Hollywood people this.I guess they don't make any more good horror movies like they did in the 80's.I gave it 2 stars out of 5.
I didn't like this movie. Way to much gore! Besides that, the story line was weak.
I didn't see Hannibal (and don't want to). What a stupid way to end the story!!! By the way, didn't see if anyone mentioned this but they are remaking "Manhunter" as we speak. Anthony Hopkins is reprising his role (digitally de-aging him), Edward Norton (Fight Club-that's his name right?) is also in it.
