View Full Version : SEGA Master System
Polar Bear Jeff 3-14-02, 11:53 PM My SMS still works to this day; tough little machine.
Any other SEGA fans? I remember playing Hang On with my buddy and brother, and see how far we can go in the game. Shinobi was another favourite of mine.
My only complaint was the pause button that was mounted on the console.
It's a shame that SEGA quit the video game hardware business. They had some great products.

Sega quit??? I thought they were coming out with a new gaming machine soon?
The Master System was my first gaming console I ever bought. But this was a 90s machine wasn't it? Well that's when I bought mine. It had the built in game "Alex the Kidd" which I mastered.
I'm a bit of a RPG fan so I was into the Phantasy Star games and virtually anything of that genre.

Nope, they're all done with hardware. To my knowledge they're just making games now primarily for the Nintendo GameCube (who woulda ever thought those two would be working together! ).
As for that system...back then, nah...wasn't into it...was strictly a Nintendo fan and before that it was Atari. I think I have the emulator and some games for that somewhere....should dig that out and give it a go :p

They're publishing Game Boy Advance games too (Sonic Advance, Chu Chu Rocket and King of Fighters Ex: Neo Blood). Never thought I'd see Sonic on a Nintendo platform. :goofy:
Although I prefered the NES over the SMS, I liked the Genesis (aka Megadrive) than the SNES (Super Famicom). The Game Gear was OK, but had quite an appetite for batteries. And the DreamCast simply got killed on the marketplace. :(
80sSmurf 3-15-02, 11:23 AM If memory serves...SEGA had 6-8 in-house game developer branches (Can't remember the nams right now), these are all now making games for virtually every gameplatform u can think of...Crazy Taxi has been, or is about to be, converted to X-box, GameCube, PS2, PC...
According to a big feature in Official PS2 mag some months ago, SEGA is planning to be the #1 developer for all next-gen gaming platforms. In other words; SEGA won't develop or make any hardware anytime soon (if ever), but the company will still make great games for a looooong time...And they do that so well too :D
I never owned one, but I did played one at a friend's. I was more of a Nintendo guy at the time. I did buy a Genesis in the early 90's and it was okay. Had some pretty decent games. I think Flashback was one of the coolest.
Sega what a great system.

Basically all of the 16bit gamesystems had the same gamecatalogue, with the ecxeption of company mascots (eg. Mario & Sonic), and games developed for the arcade by the company itself (eg. OutRun).Games like Alien 3, Judge Dredd, Smurfs ( ;) ), Asterix etc. was found on every system :)
Flashback, I remember playing that on my Amiga (never actually did finish it), now there's another landmark game... At the time I thought it was astonishing, great gfx & gameplay...Tons of li'l details -like running towards an edge and stopping just in the nick of time...Looked so cool. And that game actually had a interesting story...:)

That would be quite an achievement.
Jughead Jones 3-16-02, 07:08 PM I never really got into Sega much...the only games I liked for it were "Out Run" and "Sonic the Hedgehog".
Never played it much... though I enjoyed "Choplifter".

I think so too, but hey who knows, just might happen...and even if they don't succed, we're bound to see at least some great games from them. I've seen Crazy Taxi & Jet Set Radio on the PS2, I can only imagine what they'd be able to with both the X-box & GameCube :)
And after all SEGA has made some great games in the past 20 years
jeansfcc 3-17-02, 03:19 PM We had a Nintendo, then we went to a Sega Genesis. The Genesis was my personal favorite! Sonic, and my all time favorite Shiningg Force!!!
My middle son just purchased a Genesis from a second hand store! He also got the game Mortal Combat...I can remember the "boys" playing that game for hours on end! *Fatality* :) We did find more games for it too; thank goodness for ebay!!!
80sSmurf 3-24-02, 12:29 PM I haven't found a Genesis (or Megadrive as they're called in Europe), but I'm still looking. In the meantime my Genesis needs are fullfilled by Gens...Great emulator, plays around 99% of the games :D

They've got Sonic Adventure 2 for the GC as well....also seen a lot of the sports games that were once Sega exlusive on the up and comings for GC. Whether they fulfill their goal of being the best or not, we'll definitely benefit from all the titles they'll be shooting off
