Hey Y'all,

I remember back in the 80's the hype that used to surround the cost of making a music video, can you remember some of the artists and videos that were in this high-priced category?

I remember MTV reporting that Madonna's "Express Yourself" was her most expensive video to date and most expensive made at that point! I can't remember the cost, but the video looked fantastic, a send up of the film "Metropolis".

I believe "Express Yourself" was the most expensive video to be made in the 80s, reportedly at a cost of $3 million. Of course, there was the Michael Jackson cinema-verite masterpiece for "Thriller", which cost around $2 million. The special-effects laden videos for Peter Gabriel's "Sledgehammer" and "Big Time" cost a pretty penny as well, certainly in the million dollar/pound range each. $$$

Yeah, if you ever watch Pop-Up Video, it says that "Express Yourself" cost over $1 million to make...and at that time, only "Thriller" was worth that much.

And, it's worth the money..."Express Yourself" is absolutely stunning!:)

I wonder if she funded that video with her controversial Pepsi ads in March 1989???
