View Full Version : Alison Moyet
Hey Y'all,
Who else here loved Alison Moyet? I know she started out in Yaz or Yazoo, but she started her solo career in '84. My question is, did Alison have a successful single besides "Invisible"? I know she had several other albums after "ALF", but this is the only song I recall doing well.
80sTrivia 3-12-02, 11:57 AM I've always loved Alison Moyet's amazing vocal style! I just love her voice! I enjoy her solo material as well as all the songs she did with Yaz, and "Invisible" is one of my all-time favorite torch songs!!! :)
Jughead Jones 3-12-02, 05:47 PM I enjoyed her work when she was in Yaz...but her solo work is pretty good too!:)
1985's "Invisible" and 1987's "Is This Love" are two that I can think of off-hand!
Iluvthe80s 3-12-02, 05:51 PM In 1991 or 1992 Alison Moyet had an album called "Hoodoo" (which I have on cassette) which had a single called "It Won't Be Long" which got some airplay but not much. I really like her songs. I also have an album by her on vinyl called "Raindancing" which is another good album.
Moyet was huge in New Zealand for a brief period of time and ALF was a top selling album. She had a string of hits during that time:
All Cried out
Invisible
That Ole Devil called Love
Is this Love
Love Letters
Love Resurrection
Most of these still get a lot of airplay on NZ radio today.
80sTrivia 3-13-02, 12:02 PM Love Resurrection!!! I had completely forgotten about this song! Awesome lyrics and Alf's voice is amazing in this song!!! :)
"All Cried Out" is amazing!!
Hey Recker, did any of Alison Moyet's other albums have success in New Zealand? I think "Raindancing" and "Hoodo Voodoo" or something to that effect, were the titles.
Yes, Raindancing spawned "Is this Love" but that was about it for Moyet down here.

Thanks Recker! :thumb: I'm gonna try and pick up the "Raindancing" cd this weekend at The Austin Record Convention.
djdaffy1227 3-15-02, 08:46 AM Alison has a wonderful voice. I have copies of bot Yaz and Alison Moyet's solo greatest hits collections. She also did the song "Coventry carol" on the first "A very special Christmas" CD.
That 80z Girl 3-15-02, 09:36 AM They played both "Invisible" and "Love Ressurection" on top 40 radio here in the Seattle area. Those are the only 2 songs I remember, though.
outofplacechild 3-15-02, 11:51 AM I know that she also contibuted to the Dan Hartman-produced James Brown album "Gravity". She swapped vocals with Soul Brother Number One on "Let's Get Personal"...great track, and great album.
I own "Raindancing" on vinyl as well...I don't see why people bitched about Moyet's weight, I thought she looked good on the album cover.
That's just me, though.
Sincerely,
John "outofplacechild" Kilduff

I always liked Alf's looks. She had those absolutely beautiful eyes!!! The people who criticized her for her looks were very shallow, as Alison had one of the most amazing voices in Pop music! :)

Those criticizing probably didn't have any talent either! But she is beautiful and has an incredible voice and unique too! :)
All this talk about Alison Moyet and no mentioning of Weak In The Presence Of Beauty. Alison has a great voice and I was horrified to see this in the One Hit Wonder section. You Americans missed out on a lot with Alison Moyet.

As usual, Flix, we do miss out on a lot of talent!! Alison, is one of those casualties, unfortunately. Thankfully there is the internet and online purchasing, I can search for her items. My favorite song by Alison comes off her 'Hoodoo' album, "This House", that song is so touching! My God, her vocals are strong and piercing, I love Alison Moyet. I wish she would release something new!! :)
80sTrivia 4-06-02, 10:14 PM I was wondering if anyone knew whether or not there is a compilation of Yaz and Alison Moyet's hits, together on one CD? I haven't been able to find one, but it would be awesome if one even existed... :D
There is a Alison Moyet Greatest Hits titled "Singles". I doubt it was ever released in the US, but there are a couple of different European versions.
wavemaster 4-07-02, 03:14 PM alisonmoyet.com (http://www.alisonmoyet.com/) is offering a pretty good overview of her works.
Last year, a compilation "The Essentials" was released, featuring almost all her singles including the Yazoo-era.
After "Weak In The Presence Of Beauty", she virtually vanished from the attention of the wider audience in Germany, only a few remixes of her collaboration with Vince Clark hitted briefly the higher regions of the charts in the 90s.
80sTrivia 4-07-02, 05:28 PM Thanks for the info, Flix, and thanks for posting the great link to Alison's site, Wavey!!! :)
