View Full Version : The '80s Server
Last night, I registered with another '80s message board: The '80s Server.
Over there, I'm simply Jeff_Steele.
The '80s Server's web site is...
http://www.80s.com
Roemello 3-08-02, 01:54 AM And the point is? I think everyone who's ever ran a search on 80's knows about that site....where you have to pay to play for many of the areas there...:p Why settle for a second rate board when we got this anyway :p
You said a mouthful there Roem! I am in total agreement! :) (No slam against JS Steele intended).
nolanbuc 3-08-02, 06:21 AM I never liked that site much, that's why I'm glad I ended up here! :D
Iluvthe80s 3-08-02, 07:26 AM When I was first looking up 80's sites I ran across that one and was shocked to find out you had to pay to be a member. I just think that is plain wrong. Luckly I found the 80sxchange! This is still the best 80's board out there.:)
80sTrivia 3-08-02, 07:53 AM No way would I pay! I don't see what that site has that I should have to pay for! Their message boards are free, at least! :) Nothing compares to the Xchange, of course!

Yeah, no slam intended here either....just when it comes to 80's forums, I'm a pure Xchanger...never even thought of joining any other board (and at this point of co-running the Xchange, don't really have time to bother). Why settle for less when ya got the best! :D
I took one look at that place and thought, nah, it can't be as good as this place and left.
Brand1974 3-08-02, 06:22 PM The 80's Server has been charging money ever since 1996, when I first went there. Glad I am not the only one who thought that was ludicrous. Just about everything there on that site, you can find on some other 80's website. I wonder how many people are paying them for that?
Ah well, I won an award from them back in '97 though.

They gave my old 80s web site their "80s Site of the Day" back in '98 I think. It didn't bribe me into paying to join their site, though! :D
Roemello 3-08-02, 08:02 PM They gave that award to every 80's site under the sun....except 80sXchange....why? If I were to venture a guess, jealousy that this site was growing into the biggest community so fast and was totally free....assclowns :p
djdaffy1227 3-09-02, 01:44 PM I unfortunatelty payed to be a member before I found this site....I payed for nothing, I never go there anymore...
angeleyes25 3-10-02, 05:56 AM I never heard of that site I was going to go check it out that is before I heard that you have to pay to become a member so I didn't even bother!I love this site anyway you can't find better people than on this board! This site is just the coolest.
space-invader 3-10-02, 07:28 PM what the.....you actually PAY to use the forums????
This is my home and I don't intend on moving :p
BlueMolly2001 3-11-02, 12:48 AM Hey don't slam the 80s Server, it's such a wonderful site. *that was sarcasm talking*
I used to like the site until they started charging to play games like that Rewind (which used to be free) and other things. Also, I'm related somehow to the owner, because he e-mailed me once and ask if I knew a certain Fanton (my last name) and I said I think so.
I haven't been to the 80s Server in months, and I much prefer this site over that one. Kudos to Sal and the other modrators.

Sal Collaziano 3-11-02, 07:14 PM Hi all. Thanks a lot for the nice comments while comparing 80sxchange.com to 80s.com - I've always looked up to that site because of their name - heck, they've got the best name you can have for an 80's site.
I had stumbled across that site at some point in 1999 and saw that it lacked a good message board. There were a couple of others I hung around but none had a great message board. So, I started 80sxchange.com on November 19th, 1999..
I've tried to exchange links with 80s.com and even applied for their 80's site of the day award. I never got a reply. Actually, the only time I ever get a reply from them is when I tell the owner his board is down OR when I suggest improvements for their site - ie, their new message board. At this point, I wonder when I'll be considered a friend rather than a competitor...
Probably never...

:yucky: 80s.com? Yuck. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth to even say it. Nope. This is my home and this is where I am staying! How could I ever find a better group of friends than all of you. :)
