View Full Version : Favorite Depeche Mode song sunnysky 3-05-02, 10:55 AM What is everyone's favorite Depeche Mode song? There are so many good ones, but I am voting for Shake the Disease. Brand1974 3-05-02, 12:44 PM Wow, a hard decision. I chose Enjoy the Silence for this one. I love Depeche Mode, and I like almost all the songs that were listed. I didn't really care for their last album "Exciter" though. Trixter 3-05-02, 12:47 PM Wow! This was tough! Depech Mode is definitely in my top 10 favorites! Out of the list you provided I had to go with "Strangelove". That is my favorite Depeche Mode song!!! :thumb: I would have liked to see "Personal Jesus" make the list, I must say it almost ties "Strangelove"!! :) 80sTrivia 3-05-02, 01:38 PM Tough decision, this. I love so many of Depeche Mode's songs, but I finally decided upon "Enjoy the Silence", which is a song that I really enjoy greatly! txgirl 3-05-02, 02:49 PM Wow! Way tough decision. I really couldn't choose since I am still such a great fan. They are and always will be my all time fav. Since it was a poll though, I went with Strange Love. I just love the beat. But I love all their songs. "Strange love, strange highs and strange lows. Strange love that's how our love goes....." Roemello 3-05-02, 03:42 PM Can I just say everything? Ok, I threw a vote in for 'Enjoy the Silence', but everything there are great tunes. DM is the catalyst that brought me into synthpop...now I'm hooked :vibrator::D angeleyes25 3-05-02, 09:58 PM I picked other. The only song I like by them is "Personal Jesus". djdaffy1227 3-05-02, 10:01 PM "People are people" the first song I ever heard by them and still my favorite although all the choices are good. xistenza 3-05-02, 10:11 PM Shake the Disease!! Iluvthe80s 3-05-02, 10:25 PM People Are People That 80z Girl 3-05-02, 11:39 PM I truly love all depeche mode songs. I voted in the "Other" category because my fave is "Never let me down". lostboy 3-06-02, 12:41 AM wow, this is the toughest poll so far. Everything Counts was the song that got me hooked on Depeche Mode. I learned to dance to People are People and I love Shake the Disease. I had to vote for other because my favorite Depeche song is A Question of Lust. My favorite version of this song is off the 101 album. I also have some great remixes of there stuff. I am hooked, the last two tours they were in L.A. I went to each night of their concerts. xistenza 3-06-02, 12:53 AM Originally posted by lostboy Everything Counts was the song that got me hooked on Depeche Mode. I also have some great remixes of there stuff. I am hooked, the last two tours they were in L.A. I went to each night of their concerts. Everything Counts was the first song that hooked me as well...still one of my favorite for that reason. :D I just found out today that the Exciter show is being broadcast on Paypreview on Friday & Saturday (March 7&8th). My friend is trying to figure out if you can tape from paypreview. I hope so!! I loved their live version of Personal Jesus. lostboy 3-06-02, 12:58 AM If anyone is interested the "One night in Paris" concert is being pay per viewed on cable and satalite systems. In the month of March, there will be a Pay-Per-View event with Depeche Mode. Titled "One Night In Paris - The Exciter Tour 2001", the broadcast will be of a full Exciter Tour concert at The Palais Omnisports de Paris Bercy. Shot by Anton Corbijn, the concert film was shot on anamorphic 16:9 Digital Betacam using 13 cameras If you want to know which systems and when try here http://www.depechemode.com/news/ppv/index.html#times I am going to record it so if anyone wants to borrow it let me know. checlk out www.depechemode.com for more info VioletFoxx 3-06-02, 01:09 AM I voted "other". My favorite DM song is One Caress, but from the list I'd have to say Enjoy the Silence. dischordia 3-06-02, 02:59 AM As already stated, tough poll. I went with 'Policy of Truth' from the list. I'm sure everyone has one of these stories: I remember being a young kid, 13 maybe, and discovering the local college station, 97X. 'Blasphemous Rumors' was playing, followed by 'Sex Machine' by the Flying Lizards. I was like, what the heck is this? So far removed from the hard rock/pop music to which I'd been listening. Needless to say, my radio stayed tuned to 97X for the next 10 years. I went out and bought Some Great Reward the next day and haven't looked back since. My fav Martin Gore lyric? Promises me I'm as safe as houses As long as I remember who's wearing the trousers micky 3-06-02, 04:26 AM so many brilliant tracks.. i went for "Enjoy the Silence"..but See You was my fave before this came out Micky Guancho 3-06-02, 05:08 AM I'm a great fan of DM... it's hard to decide which is the "best" song when you love every one. My favorite, "Never let me down again", is not in the list, so I've voted "other". If there weren't the "other" option, I'd have chosen "Everything counts". My own list surely would have included "A question of time", "Personal Jesus" or "Love in itself" better than "People are people" or "Just can't get enough"... Chasey 3-06-02, 06:57 AM My favourite ever Depeche Mode song is 'World in My Eyes' from 'Violator'. It's so damn sensual....just an incredible song! Runner up was 'Clean' also from the same album. Also loved 'In Your Room' from 'Songs of Faith and Devotion' Don't mind the poppy stuff either, really enjoyed the single 'New Life'. tracyscotch 3-07-02, 05:30 PM I voted for Just Can't Get Enough. I live really close to Basildon where Depeche hail from. Actually remember them being on the local news when they started out, so like the early songs the best. Did love Blasphemous rumours though. :rollin: :rollin: Flix 3-11-02, 04:24 PM Needless to say, I love any song by Depeche Mode. My favorite song this week is Love Thieves from the Ultra album. I did however vote for Strangelove. All in all one of the best Depeche songs ever. wavemaster 3-12-02, 12:03 AM Had to vote for "other"...actually, there are only 14 songs of DM I donīt like - "Are People People" (from the "Master & Servant Remix 12") and the whole "Exciter"-album (sorry, fans... :D). Canīt believe it...when my stepbro played "Construction Time Again" and asked me for my opinion then, I had told him that I thought it was pretty boring... One year later, "People Are People" got me hooked up to DM completely. ;) Megaloman 3-13-02, 12:57 AM They have only had one good song- the one Vince Clark wrote, "Just can't get Enough". JS 3-13-02, 02:32 AM People Are People Chuck 3-13-02, 09:13 PM "Just Can't Get Enough" is my favorite Depeche Mode song. Wish they still sounded like that. Keyboard = Good, Guitar = Bad. -Chuck Dancingdoll1986 3-14-02, 10:31 PM I went with People Are People. It just had that funky, weird, quirky thing going on that I really enjoyed..........just a fun song, with some lyrics that made me think. The Duck Man 3-18-02, 01:45 AM Well, this one is easy for me. "Somebody" is my favorite DM song. Yeah it's sappy and all but it brings back a lot of memories. *Senior Prom Night 1986, I was the only one in coat-tails and a top hat* The Duck Man Boggle 3-25-02, 11:31 AM I voted for "other". My favorite by Depeche Mode is "Personal Jesus" LadyMysTrix 3-26-02, 12:10 AM From this list, I chose 'Policy of Truth'. But my favorite song would have to be 'In Your Room'. '80s Aztec 3-26-02, 04:28 AM Yeah, I had to go with "World In My Eyes," too. It is just so very...what? I don't know, but it's just perfect. Valentine 3-27-02, 09:08 AM "People are People" for me but "Somebody" came a close second. Basically everything they ever did was great with me. I just love the sound. I think I got old at some point though. After the release of "Personal Jesus" I just lost interest in them. Either they lost the plot or I did. Probably the later.:1offwall: space-invader 3-28-02, 09:09 PM other: "master and servant" Steve Savicki 4-08-02, 09:11 PM due to it's music, fast pace, and frentic bass. But it came out in 1990 so for 80's it would be "People Are People". BBG 4-08-02, 10:05 PM It was a difficult decision! BlitzKid 4-19-02, 09:10 AM From this list i like Strange Love best, but my all time favourite Depeche Mode song is "A Question of Lust". Unbeatable!:p sketcher 4-22-02, 01:21 PM I can't beleive how difficult it is to choose one song. I guess I underestimated Depeche Mode (I am a fan though). I'd have to say I have a tie for #2; Master and Servant, Everything Counts, World In My Eyes, Enjoy the Silence, and A Question of Time. #3 would be Just Can't Get Enough. I love it but I've heard it so many times when the 80s first came back. But my #1 has to be Never Let Me Down Again because that's the song I play really loud in my car. I love the piano in it. I was driving from Quebec City to Montreal one night and I was in the middle of nowhere. I had it blasting. It had just got dark and the song fit it so perfectly. True Rebel 4-22-02, 06:46 PM I voted other. My fav DM songs, one being the top - 1. World In My Eyes 2. One Caress 3. Policy Of Truth 4. In Your Room 5. Somebody 6. People Are People 7. Master And Servant 8. Enjoy The Silence 9. Strangelove 10. Everything Counts Prefab Sprouter 5-09-02, 06:31 AM I voted other cos "Personal Jesus" is my fav Depeche Mode song by far 80sAlive.com 5-09-02, 08:10 AM "People are People" Vilji 5-09-02, 04:39 PM i voted for 'everything counts' though 'told you so' is fun, too. apologies if i voted for something different before.. (can't remember,,different mood, different day..;) :goofy: :) Shortie Blonde 5-09-02, 05:19 PM I haven't heard all that much Depeche Mode, but I have heard "Just Can't Get Enough". Went with that. My favorite Depeche Mode song is Stripped that was on their Black Celebration cd. I remember the first time I listened to that song and decided that Depeche Mode was the coolest band I had ever listened to. That song started my love for Depeche Mode, so that is why it is my favorite song. ImSoooSure 5-21-02, 02:15 AM I voted for Just Cant Get Enough. So many to choose from!:) psychocandy 5-22-02, 04:57 PM Other: "But Not Tonight" (Black Celebration & also on the soundtrack to "Modern Girls") Sheibub 5-23-02, 11:28 PM I actually like Enjoy The Silence...Not much of a big DM fan but I love this song. Harket 5-25-02, 07:42 AM Voted "Other" as I would chose "Stripped" - got a lot of great memories to that song :naughty: But overall Depeche Mode are truly a great band :thumb: Therrall 6-20-02, 11:09 PM I Voted for "StrangeLove" that would be my Favorite DM song :thumb: I think it's probably thier Best Single In My Opinion :) DC Rebel 6-20-02, 11:16 PM I would have to vote for Enjoy the Silence. Policy of Truth would be a close second. 80s&Indie_Obsessed 6-11-03, 06:15 PM Enjoy the Silence is my fav, although 'Behind The Wheel' comes 2nd, but it's not up there! PG 6-11-03, 06:18 PM I voted for other because my favorite DM song is "Never Let Me Down Again". :) XXX 6-11-03, 08:01 PM The extended version of "Shake The Disease" is excellent. It is a top pick. Still, I voted in the "Other" category since I did not see one song from Black Celebration, which is DeMode's best album in their 20+ year history; ranging from the title track, "Fly On The Windscreen," "A Question Of Time," "A Question Of Lust," "World Full Of Nothing," all the way to the last track, "But Not Tonight." It clearly demonstrates the power that this band has artistically... andiegirl 6-14-03, 12:01 PM But Not Tonight is my favorite. ozone 6-18-03, 10:17 AM all i ever wanted all i ever needed was to "enjoy the silence":thumb: Good Vibes 6-19-03, 05:24 PM I love Depeche and all the songs listed were brilliant. My favorite song though is Fly on the Windscreen. A very close second would be Halo. LOSTNTHE80S 6-19-03, 05:40 PM I don't listen to them that much but I do like a couple of their songs..I chose People are People AnotherNewRomantic 6-20-03, 12:04 AM Add my "Other" vote for "But Not Tonight" although "Waiting for the Night" and "In Your Room" run a close second. PG 7-03-03, 08:36 AM Originally posted by AnotherNewRomantic "In Your Room" run a close second. If you ever get a chance, check out the Portishead remix of "In Your Room". I just discovered it a few weeks ago & it is fantastic. :) Sonny Burnett 7-05-03, 08:38 AM I went with 'Everything Counts'. The fact that "Other" is getting the most votes tells you how good DM is. A must for all Depeche Mode fans is the DVD 'Depeche Mode The Videos 86>98' It has 20 videos on it. electronic BEATS 7-10-03, 11:19 PM I'm going with "Shake the Disease." LOVE the song as well as the video. Others that come right behind it - "Photographic," "It's Called a Heart," "Told You So" and "Strangelove." bookmistres4ever 8-04-03, 05:04 AM ewwww this was tough. I *really* love Enjoy the Silence and People are People and Personal Jesus.... but I had to go with Enjoy the Silence, funny how that song's lyrics mean more to me today then they did back then. Patty Strange Love 11-08-03, 02:49 PM I like them all and all the DM songs, but i have to say that my favourite is "Enjoy the silence". I really like DM because their music is very dark and depressive, it makes you questioning about a lot of things. Jefferson Starship 11-08-03, 07:32 PM It's a tie between ''Strange love'' & ''People are People'', 2 songs that really means to me!! Vscan 1-11-04, 01:54 AM i have all albums of DM, but my favourite is definitely "everything counts"....the live version of "101" lostboy 1-16-04, 12:12 AM Nice to see that this little spot on the Xchange is being visited again. I just bought the 101 DVD and I am looking forward to watching it this weekend. We used have many more Depeche Mode fans...most have disappeared. Timbo 1-19-04, 08:50 AM Enjoy the Silence from the list, though my vote would have also gone for "Behind The Wheel" and "A Question of Time" ANGELAL23 1-22-04, 01:45 AM I am a huge DM fan they are my second favorite 80's band, the Cure being my first :) . I love my Violator cd so much I've had to buy several since it first came out. My favorite on that is Enjoy the Silence. Its my all time fave. But I love 101. That cd is the bomb! I love Never Let Me Down (101 version), and Behind The Wheel (101 version). Johnny Z 1-22-04, 10:43 AM I went with "Policy of Truth," although I could have just as easily picked "Enjoy the Silence" or "People Are People." Hurrah Brother 1-28-04, 08:39 AM Personaly over their career:- Enjoy the Silence Personal Jesus Stripped Blasphemous rumours See you Pipeline Soo many to choose from, Gave rise in my circle of friends of the saying '(insert artist here) is a bit like depeche mode', IE you didn't realise how much of their stuff you liked/knew/rememberd untill their greatest hit LP came out. And then the collecting starts! Jefferson Starship 2-17-04, 10:21 PM Policy of Truth & It's no good are their best songs 80s enfing-90s... I enjoy thoses songs a lot!!! The DM beat i hate is the new one... sounds too much techno-pop to me! :dammit: groznoy 2-24-04, 04:33 PM How 'bout Breathe, One Caress, Somebody, whistledog 9-05-04, 05:18 PM two way tie: I really liked both The Meaning of Love and Leave in Silence from the 1982 Broken Frame LP :0 DJ Midas 9-07-04, 02:12 PM Lately it's been "World In My Eyes". :) 80s hair 4-12-05, 01:34 PM Policy of Truth :thumb: bjacobs 4-12-05, 02:26 PM I went with "Enjoy The Silence" by Depeche Mode. 80's fanatic 4-12-05, 10:56 PM ' Strange Love' Tanya1976 4-14-05, 08:07 PM Enjoy the Silence, followed by Personal Jesus and Policy of Truth blzbub 4-15-05, 05:17 AM Other = Flexible Mr 1980s 4-23-05, 07:45 PM "Just Can't Get Enough" got my vote. I love Dangerous, It's No Good, all of Music for the Masses, all of Black Celebration and tons more! fungirl3 4-27-05, 11:22 AM Policy of Truth, such a great song! World In My Eyes, great make out song! Master and Servant, a lot like life :naughty: nozaz 5-01-05, 05:57 AM Speak and Spell was the first DM record I bought...it was also the first US release. I went with the latter ("Shake the Disease"). spooky 10-23-05, 08:27 AM My favorite is without a doubt "Little 15". It's such a simple song, but I never get tired of it. matt80 10-24-05, 07:58 PM Their new single 'Precious' is up to the high standards of the older Depeche Mode stuff. an80snut 11-01-05, 06:30 PM "But Not Tonight" and "Sea Of Sin" are by two favorites (one a single the other a B-side) but I have to say that there are a lot of their mediocre songs that are better than some other band's best. SeaBass 11-02-05, 02:31 PM Shake The Disease still haunts me to this day. Although I probably prefer it for sentimental reasons. Also, since this is an eighties web-site, i really don't think any of thier later output (It's No Good) should be eligible! ;) Monty007Ū 12-01-05, 08:12 AM Stripped Rosa_Q 12-02-05, 02:50 PM I went for "Other" - my favourite DM song is "Dressed In Black" but I love love love (LOOOOOVE) Depeche Mode and I have lots of favourite songs of theirs. My favorite has always been Boys Say Go! from the album Speak & Spell ('81) I love many, many DM songs, though. Darkhaven 3-08-06, 03:23 PM Enjoy the Silence came out during one of the major turning points of my teenage years, so that's my vote. It's haunting in a way. dcantujr 3-13-06, 02:10 PM What about Halo! |
