When I was younger I wanted a bass guitar of my own. I played one in Jazz Band in school, but the guitar belong to the school. My Mom would always say, "I bought you a saxophone already." I played that in regular band. So, I ended up when I became an adult getting one. My ex-husband bought it for me.

The other thing is I want to go to England. I'm still waiting to go there.

Mine was a framed picture of Prince on his purple motorcycle. It was a prize you could win at local fair. I spent some 20 dollars trying to get it. My friend, who was with me, won it herself and would'nt give it to me! b**ch hehe I don't even like Prince now

I always wanted to meet Limahl. I used to make my parents take me to London all the time just to look for him. This German music magazine 'BRAVO' was doingan annula contest where you get to vote for your fave and you could pick a material prize or a meeting with your fave if you got it right. Limahl won three years in a row I think or at least two times and I never got picked. Of course being eleven and twelve didn't exactly help. But I remember having a first class fit when I found out. And they say hell knoweth no fury like a woman scorned. Try replacing woman with preteen. Boy did I give everybody grief for days.

I wanted to dance on American Bandstand!!! It was one of my ambitions in life, kind of like in that movie, Hairspray... Sadly, the show was canned in 1989, and I never got to boogie on down in front of the nation. I never even got to "Rate a Record"..."I'll give it an 8, Dick... it's got a good beat and I can dance to it..."

A Swatch Watch! I always wanted one, but never got one. My dad always said..."IF I'm going to pay that much for a watch it better have diamonds or be able to dance." So, just recently, I won a bid on E-Bay for a 1987 Vintage Swatch! Oh, meee sooo happppy!!!

As we were poor in the 80s, (food stamps and all... Reaganomics was just a bad joke for us!) there were a lot of things I would have liked to have, but didn't. I tried not to spend too much time thinking about it, and appreciate what I did have, but kids are greedy by nature. It's biologically programmed, I think.

My list:

A pony
A Benetton rugby shirt (I hated them but I wanted one anyway)
A Swatch watch (me too, Myst!)
My own phone

That's actually it. Huh! Thought there were more.

An endless supply of the latest fashions!!

I went to three different high schools, this was at the turn of the 80s (I am afraid I might be a speck older than some of my fellow 80teers) and styles were changing so fast. If I managed to scrap together a passable wardrobe (military brat = no money ), it changed at the next school.

That and my own stereo would have been so cool.......and Bono to sing me to sleep every night in person!

Did I want too much? Well, of course, I WAS a teenager.

Wow, what a great topic!

Lemme see now (rubs chin)...

*a drum set
*a Coleco-vision (missed that boat entirely)
*a computer (obviously, I've taken care of that one)
*a four album record deal
*a real, live smurf (I'll take care of it, mom, I swear!)

Well, other than these paltry knick-knacks, I was a very contented child. I think now that I have kids, I realize that I wasn't lack as much stuff as I thought.

What did you absolutely have to have but never got?

*SIGH* That would have to be Phoebe Cates... Other than her though, I would have to say maybe a dirt bike. Never got one of those (although I do have nice street bike now - That I bought myself - The folks hate motorcycles).

Hey congrats Myst on winning your bid on the Swatch.. I have a bid right now on a vintage 1985 Swatch still in the package... doing well so far but I know they are going to wait until the bidding is getting ready to close and outbid me... but I will have to try the same strategy!

I had three Swatches ... they were my all-time favorite thing to wear!

I always wanted those baggy flourescent sweatshirts but my mother said that they weren't nice enough for school... but everyone else was wearing them!!! So my friend, Nikki, who had lots of them would bring me one to school and I'd wear it for the day and give it back before I went home... seems silly that Mom would fret over something silly like that when a little later, I was allowed to wear mini-skirts and lace tops... anyway...

I also wanted Andy Taylor from Duran Duran.. was always my all time favorite, all my friends liked John or Simon.. Mom DID get Andy on my birthday cake for three years, though.... Not the real deal... but some things you can just never have!

Well I wanted a pet Gremlin myself, and a Delorian. (If you're gonna make a time machine, might as well make it with a little style) And for just a few minutes couldn't my freinds have shut up about the damned New Kids and let me listen to this Billy Idol song? Please?

I also wanted barrettes, the little colorful cheap plastic kind! I had a ton but couldnt get enough!

Hmm and I wanted to move to castle Duckula or live with the Snorks.

I always wanted a really good stereo. I used to have one of those all-in-one deals with the phonograph on top, an 8 track player and the radio on the front. Then it had two speakers that weighed nearly a pound apiece, and had these tiny little wires coming out the back.

I hope i wont get yelled at for this but in the 80's i wanted MIchael Jackson. I loved that man, i wanted to meet him so bad. I collected purses, key rings, magazine clippings everything i could get my hands on. I had my whole room made of Michael Jackson clippings. I prayed that i would meet him. I wanted him to show me how to dance.

I want Carol Alt, and Molly Ringwald. If she was still alive, I would want to be friends with Wendy O. Williams. Something I actually yearned for in the late 80s/early 90s was the opportunity to watch MTV. My mom eventually let me watch it, but all the good music was gone by that point (1993, to be precise). I guess I also want both Julie Browns. Oh, I nearly forgot Elvira, Mistress Of The Dark.

Atari 520ST computer
Christina Amphlett (Divinyls lead singer)
Lamborghini Countach (I will own one, oh yes, I will own one)

Dude! You are the luckiest man in the world for never owning a TG-16. That would the most horrible system...NEC hates America or something! Imagine a NES but ALL the games SUCK. I mean they converted Bonk (the TG-16 "flagship" or should I say "fagship" game) as a NES cart and it just oozed with inferiority.
NEC actually took the WORST games from their horrendous PC-Engine and punished a segment of the American population that can never forgive...never forget.
Alien Crush was kind of cool but $60? I should have filed a damn lawsuit. Sorry everyone, it's like a personal Pearl Harbor for me.

What a question to someone who was (and sometimes still is) greedy kind of guy...

1. Enough money to buy all those cool 12"...I´ve spent my whole allowance on records, but it never was enough - today I spend even more money to get my hands on them (current record: 85$ for one LP)

2. An 80cc-motorbike...my mom was absolutely dead against them, and the insurance was killing you - the companies raised the fees from 70$ to 500$ within a year. So, I had to tune up my 50cc moped...and was faster than the guys on their 80cc but also a very prominent target on police controls...

3. All the girls I was after...seemed that I was always looking for love in the wrong places (like Larry Laffer), since the girls I set my sight on wasn´t too fascinated by the sight of a boy who was styling himself in a quite "eccentric" way...

4. To look like Dave Gahan! Whoa, I´ve tried everything, but all the people just called me "Elvis"...kind of stupidity around me...

I´ve noticed that everyone is kinda fascinated by owning a Swatch - I hated those watches!
They were quite expensive, uncomfortable to wear (all plastic...even after one week you could see where the watch was), and the loud ticking was driving me nuts at night. Even my girlfriend has complained about it, so I got rid of this thingy by giving it to her...

Freedom. I thought I was the only one who did not get to go running around. Now I am glad cause boy I would have been trouble.

The only time in my life that I was actually well off was when I turned 13 and went to live with my dad and step-family. I went from Food Stamps and holy shoes in a hick town to Designer Jeans and mall bought clothes in a big city. Once I was on my own at 18 I could no longer afford the good life. But it was nice while it lasted. The only thing I never got was a pair of Ray Bans. (but my step-sister did and I would always borrow hers.

I wanted much music very badly and the movie channel when it first came out in 1983. My father refused to pay more when we had 20 perfectly good channels (lol 20). So I discovered if you tape the channel between 13 and 1 (old TV) you got a grainy picture. I also found that with the cable hooked up to the stereo the sound was on one of the channels so I had pirated Much Music for the first two years :)

I had a canopy bed (I was lucky)
I wanted clothes and lots of it!
I wanted a motorcycle but my parents threatened to kick me out. Instead my best friend go one so we had to pull a lot of sneaking around to go riding until we went for our big slide. Lots of explaining to do then ;)
