Just curious - Are you a musician, singer, in a band?? After reading some of the profiles, I see that a few of you are. Just wondering what instrument everyone plays, what kind of music, etc.:)

I played saxophone in band in high school & junior high. I also played bass guitar in jazz band in school. I have played bass guitar off and on through the years. I've never been in a band or anything though. I just play for fun.

I learnt how to play the piano as a youth but just go so sick of practising. So I sort of stopped playing and never picked it up again.

 @ Pagan

Between the ages of 8 and 12 I played the accordian:eek: until I played in a contest at some hotel. Everybody, my family and teacher said I would win the contest. I took second place and two weeks later, I put that accordian down forever.
Between 17 and 20 I played guitar including one year as rhythm guitarist in a garage band.

I played clarinet until 7th grade, I couldn't stand the new music teacher, and I was changing schools anyway. :(

I'm just a singer. lol Always wanted to play bass guitar, but never got around to it. ;) I played flute for a year when I was in 6th grade.

I played guitar for about 2 years. The biggest problem I found is that being left handed, most instruments are right handed! Anyway, I just slowly lost interest in it. I have thought about trying again several times. Don't know if I ever will though.

I'm a drumming lunatic but I never owned a drum set. It's certainly my calling in life but - too late now. Not only that, but I have no place to practice.. Maybe next time...

Nothing. Although, I wish I had taken up something in high school. :) I would have liked to play the piano. :)

I never took lessons.. but I believe I am musically inclined :D When I was younger, I learned to play "Greensleeves" by ear on the piano. I just sat and picked it out. I never tried to learn any songs after that. I wish I had taken lessons.. because I LOVE piano music.. Yanni is one of my favorites.

I played trumpet in highschool. Been playing bass by ear for 5 years now(maybe one day I'll take lessons..nahhh)I've been playing piano/keys since I was 13. I'm a pretty good singer at least that's what I've been told. I sang with 3 different bands in highscool.I love going to karaoke and changing my voice to sound like Elvis,Billy Joel,Chris issak,Michael McDonald,Boz Scaggs.. people who have distinct voices. Not to toot my own horn but I've won a few contests. Overall, I think my strongest musical talent is songwriting. I'm a very good lyricist .I write the lyrics first then the music. I'm writing a couple of songs that may be featured on my friends next CD!

COOL BREEZE

PS:I CAN PLAY "SMOKE ON THE WATER" AND "STAIRWAY TO HEAVEN " ON THE GUITAR! SORRY,I HAD TO THROW THAT IN FOR PAGAN!

I used to play the piano. Also, I played the double French Horn...my claim to fame is I had a solo in a piece from La Traviata. My aunt is a professional French Horn player and is employed by different orchestra's (that is a little hobby of hers..she's also a teacher and has been teaching Latin and Spanish for years.)

I played the piano when I was a kid, but I got tired of all the practicing and gave it up around the 7th grade. So it came as a shock to everyone in my family when I joined the choir a few years ago. :D

Since then I've kind of taken up piano (or rather, keyboard) playing again. Mostly I play classical music, but I have occasionally tried my hand playing a little ragtime or Bruce Hornsby on the keyboard.

My youngest cousin, can pick up an instrument and just start playing it. She started with Clarinet, and now she's learning that big huge sax (whatever the biggest one is). We all swear, one day, she'll replace Kenny G.

I have been playing guitar since I was 7 years old. I have been in a few local metal bands here in Austin and in Nashville, TN. At the moment, I am trying to get another band together.

I played violin from 1st grade through 9th grade. I put it down because I couldn't stand my instructor. Stupid, I know. I really missed it and recently I purchased a new one. I plan to take some time and reacquaint myself with it.

I took piano lessons when I was younger.
I also played the bass in middle school. I think every child should learn to play an insturment.

i have played the drums a bit. I am more of a cymbal player though. I have played in the school for a few years.

school band 4th-10th
Chorus 6th-8th
Marching 6th-12th(still doing it)

I now play Fourth bass drum in the marching band. I have 5 or six years experience in the drum line. Although the uniforms are really geeky.:)

I've been playing keyboards (or synthesizer..whatever ya wanna call it) since I was about 7. Never took lessons or anything, just listened to songs and can play by ear reasonably well....not perfect, but pretty good :) I don't play regularly anymore, but if I hear a song I really like, I hop on and play once in a while :) I was on an 'Imagine' kick after 9/11 :)

I tried guitar in high school music class and picked up on it almost instantly...never followed through on it, but if I tried again and stuck with it, I'm sure I could. Most of the males on my father's side are great with a guitar :D

I don´t know if this counts, but I was a fairly good DJ.
It sounds probably like "what does it take to throw a few discs on the turntable or into the CD player and play them", but DJing is a bit more than this. In fact, you need to acquire a sense for 'the vibe of the crowd' to entertain them a whole night long - something which is difficult to learn or to teach IMO.

I´ve also tried to learn some 'real' instruments like keyboard (took my first steps on the legendary Moog Prodigy!) and guitar, but since I never found myself to free enough time and patience to keep on learning, I had given up.

Today, I do some remix work on the computer for myself or the band I´m co-managing. It takes a lot of time, so I´m remixing only 3-4 tracks per year - most of the remixes end in the bin, since I´m not very happy with them in the end. ;)

hehe. I too suffered through marching band uniforms. I went to the same high school as my mom, and the uniforms from the 70s had only been retired about two years before I got there  I could've had my mom's band uniform! We still looked like Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, but only in light royal blue... pooey.

I'm a clarinetist, mostly bass clarinet. I got hooked on the instrument when I was about 8 and watching Bugs Bunny cartoons. (whenever Sylvester's sneaking up on Tweety, that's a bass clarinet!) I started clarinet when I was in fifth grade and played all the way through college. I've been taking a couple years off from really playing actively, but I plan to join a community band soon. I miss it.

I also play saxophone, (all sizes) a little bit of euphonium & tuba, the absolute minimum piano necessary for me to graduate from college, ;) and a little guitar. I sing pretty well, but nothing special. Mostly I just sing in the car & in the shower. I'd be in a community chorus if I had more time.

I have no musical talent whatsoever. I can't play any instrument (I just faked the saxophone in mandatory music class, Grade 7-8) and my voice cracks if I even SPEAK in any voice higher than my regular one.

I used to play the trombone and drums in Middle School, but I wasn't very good, so it stands to reason that I'm not in a band. :(
So I guess, no, I'm not musically talented.

I have talent, I just never took the time to study and to really put my heart into it. I used to play the flute and learned on child's song on the piano, that's about it. I like to sing, and would do so more, if I thought I was any good. I hate my voice! :) lol

I play the guitar, but I'm a talentless geek. I've got a voice that sounds eerily like Sid Viscious (rather on purpose) when I sing (bad or good - you decide), an delusions of grandeur. But with all these real musicians around me, I stay in my place for the most part.

I picked up my best friend's clarinet the other day...I still know how to put it together and where my fingers go. Suppose that's a good sign? Well, I still know how to make it squeak (from experience, too) and I still know how to chew up the reed so that the teacher has to give you another one...and then another...and  another...and then the teacher tells you to go out and buy your own.

Well I'm a little bit Musically Talented.

Back in Grade School I was Forced to play the Recorder, every kid in my Music Class had to Learn it, I Hated it :yucky:, I was also in Choir for a short period of time, ACK!, ok I did enjoy that for a bit, though I pretended I hated it.

When I got into Junior-High I got an Acoustic Guitar as a Gift and I started Learning how to play, I got pretty good too(Though I'm no Malmsteen or Blackmore;)) I kept playing throughout most of H.S. as well, that is until I developed Athritis in my Right Hand(My Playing Hand) Unfortunately it's Hereditary as my mum has it too :( the Good thing is, that is if you can call it good is that it wasn't really Bad during H.S., but as I got older it got Worse, I can't play for very long now before it starts to Bother me, but I've gotten used to the pain now.

I Still like to Play my Acoustic or my Friends Les Paul Electric Guitar(I've had it for about a year now as he hasn't asked for it back:p) while I'm listening to music every now and then, I've even had a couple of "Jam Sessions" with a few Friends :D

I can Also play Chop-Stick Drums Pretty Good :D I'm Very Good at keeping a Rhythm going, I Always wanted to Learn how to play Drums since I was Young, I've also Always wanted to learn how to play Classical Piano, as well as the Japanese Flute, maybe someday... *sigh*

I am musically talented. I played the drums in elementary school and through middle school, until I went to a different school, where there was no music program at all. I had a drumset by 5th grade, and took private drum lessons. It was something that I really picked up well. I also sang in the chorus, as well as acted in a musical production put on by the school.

My drumset has pretty much collected dust ever since I went to that new school back in 1989. I still have it, but it is in the parents attic at their house. I have given thought to picking the drum sticks back up and trying it out again.

I cannot carry a tune to save my life but I love to sing. Trust me I torture my family LOL.

I started playing the piano when I was about 5 and hated Royal Conservatory so after I got my grade 2 and did a few kwanis festivals I asked my teacher to switch me over to contemporary books. I switched to a new teacher in grade 10 and she was just an unpleasant person so I started skipping and she didn't inform my father for a while I was skipping... he was not please he was paying for nothing. I think I'd like to get back into the conservatory again though.

I took clarinet from Grade 6 onward. I was lead in our symponic band and we won gold in 1986 at a competition at the Expo in Vancouver. I still have my clarinet but I haven't played it in years. I had to learn another instrument in grade 13 so I learned Baritone as well.

I tried guitar for about two weeks but I'm a suck.. it hurt my fingers too much. I regret being a suck now LOL.

I have zero musical talent, can't sing worth a damn, and the only instrument I ever attempted to play was the Ukelele(sp) in Grade 4, I was so bad at that, that, the music teacher at school had me in the lowest level, fianlly I pulled a Pete Townsend and smashed the damn thing in the parking lot at school.... I still believe my music teacher was relieved when she watched me doing that

Guitar... I own a Gibson Flying V... I don't play with it. But having gone to a metal show after a wicked long dry spell reminded me how much I missed playing. I stopped because I broke 2 fingers in my playing hand.

I finally got a piano of my own this year for my birthday so I can play what I want when I want without my mother nagging me to do it. I don't blame her now 'tho. I've played the flute since I was 12 and I was almost a music major in college. I was kind of being scouted by a couple universities - one of the band directors started calling my house to see if I'd audition for him. Another director heard my solo during a band competition and said that if I didn't go to Michigan State, he was going to come and find me. I have a natural talent for it, and to all the pervs out there...NO, I haven't done THAT!!!

When I was little, about 5 or so, I used to sit at the piano and make up songs and then try to write them down. My parents should have stuck me in piano lessons, IMO, but my mom insists that I was begging to take dance lessons instead. My dad played the piano very well, my mom plays, and my brothers both took lessons for years, but I never got to until I took a piano class in college.
