I always loved the speedy lyrics in the song. Tempted is my second fav. djdaffy1227 2-25-02, 06:16 PM no question, "Black coffee in bed" another one I remeber well from MTV :) Iluvthe80s 2-25-02, 08:07 PM I voted for "Hourglass". BlueMolly2001 2-25-02, 08:17 PM I voted for "Black Coffee In Bed", because it's my all time favorite Squeeze song. "Hourglass" is a close second though. 18th Century Brain 2-25-02, 11:12 PM "Hourglass" I love the part in the video where the drummer uses the clock hands when he can't find his sticks. angeleyes25 2-26-02, 01:33 AM I voted for "Tempted" You guys remember this song being in a Burger King Commercial? Chasey 2-26-02, 04:35 AM Has to be 'Hourglass' Molly - such a catchy tune. - Not to mention slightly insane. Any ideas what it's all about!? nolanbuc 2-26-02, 05:30 AM I voted "Tempted". I've always loved that song. :) Dancingdoll1986 2-26-02, 06:34 AM I voted "Black coffee in bed" for the same reason as DJ!!! I can still see the video in my head right now!! (Maybe I have that "Sixth Sense" thing going on!!!) Man, it's too early in the AM...what am I doing awake?!?:goofy: 80sTrivia 2-26-02, 06:41 AM "Black Coffee In Bed" received my nod as well... I like the melody of the song, which is quite catchy. I never much cared for the song "Tempted". Dancingdoll1986 2-26-02, 03:28 PM Is that because you've never been "tempted by the fruit of another", Michael?!?!?!? *tease*;) this charming man 2-26-02, 04:00 PM My favourite was Cool For Cats which doesn't feature on the list 80sTrivia 2-26-02, 04:53 PM Originally posted by DD86 Is that because you've never been "tempted by the fruit of another", Michael?!?!?!? *tease*;) Who, me, tempted??? :) Only every day of my life!!! BlueMolly2001 2-26-02, 07:51 PM Originally posted by DD86 I voted "Black coffee in bed" for the same reason as DJ!!! "Black Coffee In Bed" was a close second. Bogie 3-04-02, 09:11 AM Of the ones listed I went with Black Coffee in Bed. Lots of other great ones too. Pulling Mussels From a Shell, Cool For Cats, Take Me I'm Yours, Up the Junction. Man they wrote a lot of great pop songs. Thanks for reminding me Molly. :D abcmcd 3-04-02, 02:16 PM I voted for "Hourglass" from the list. "Pulling Mussels from a Shell" is probably my actual favorite 'tho. I don't know... I love most all Squeeze.:D Brand1974 3-04-02, 04:02 PM I voted for Black Coffee in Bed. I really like a lof of the songs of the Singles collection. I also like the Hourglass and that would probably be my second pick off of this list. Pulling Mussels from a Shell and If I Didn't Love You are also more of my favorites. xistenza 3-04-02, 09:58 PM Originally posted by Bogie Of the ones listed I went with Black Coffee in Bed. Thanks for reminding me Molly. :D Me too, another Black Coffee in Bed, but Pulling Mussels From a Shell was my favorite and I completely forgot about Up the Junction. Great song! :D LadyMysTrix 3-25-02, 11:05 PM 'Black Coffe in Bed' is my favorite. Pippi 5-29-02, 05:30 PM I couldn't vote here, but Hourglass is my favorite. BlitzKid 5-31-02, 03:33 AM yeah, too bad it is closed. I like Hourglass as well as one of the first songs, Cool for cats. Greenway88 2-13-04, 06:49 AM Of these I like Tempted. My favorite overall is Last Time Forever. Prefab Sprouter 2-13-04, 08:12 AM I loved "Tempted" although "up the Junction" is my favourite Squeez song! :thumb: Good poll Molly! Billy 2-13-04, 09:54 AM Great idea for a poll - although it seems many of my favorite's, 'Up The Junction' etc. were missing...I actually voted for Annie Get Your Gun 'cos my friend got to play some keyboards on it! Also, i'm not embarrassed to say that i once owned Cool For Cats on a Pink Vinyl 45! Glenn Gulia 2-13-04, 12:44 PM Tempted is one of my all time favorite songs. :) old80rooster 4-12-04, 05:18 AM Actually , my all time favorite is Last Time Forever, the whole Cosi Fan Tutti Frutti album is great. miwako 4-12-04, 07:00 PM I voted for Tempted. I remember the video w/the gals dancing in it. Although I must confess that as a teenager, I never really got into that song. When I was in my 20's I got into some blues, 50's jazz and some of british blues bands from the 60's like The Animals and I started to like Tempted. XXX 4-13-04, 08:32 PM "Tempted" :( Billy 4-14-04, 12:22 PM My favourite was Cool For Cats which doesn't feature on the list I agree! - if u lived in the uk during that time 'cool for cats' was the ultimate innovative new wave song. These guys were the kings of double meaning within their lyrics. Hourglass was almost a beautiful swan-song for them. Up the junction would be another favorite, but i guess you'd have to be an old british ex-pat like me to understand that!lol! Timbo 4-15-04, 02:52 AM WHAT?????????? No mention of either "Another Nail in My Heart" or "Pulling Mussels from a Shell". So, I went for Tempted. Hurrah Brother 4-16-04, 08:58 AM WHAT?????????? No mention of either "Another Nail in My Heart" or "Pulling Mussels from a Shell". So, I went for Tempted. I know, Nor is there 'Cool for cats' or 'Is that Love' So i won't vote at all *Humpfs!* :goofy: app4dstn 4-16-04, 11:50 AM WHAT?????????? No mention of either "Another Nail in My Heart" or "Pulling Mussels from a Shell". So, I went for Tempted. the video for 'another nail...' was amongst the 1st i ever saw, waaay before i got MTV. who were these dudes pushing a piano down the street? i was immediately hooked. along with the aforementioned, i'd include 'there at the top'. 'argybargy' is pretty good, but i think 'east side story' is even better. sadly, they lost me halfway through 'sweets from a stranger'. the imagery in their lyrics, to the American eye, was mindboggling, to say the least. i can remember the duo being labelled "the next Lennon/McCartney". difford crammed so much food for thought into 3 minutes. and from 'east side story' (the album came with a sticker on the wrapper that said "100% Beat - No Filler"): in quintessance: "smokes himself into double vision; leaves his mind on an indecision; thinks that he invented imagination; says that God is some relation" AND closing with "... makes for something special on your football shirt, in quintessance") woman's world: "fed up with the glory she abdicates her title, sitting at a bar stool she gives the day's recital. the family watch in horror as she staggers up the hallway. makes herself a sandwich as they're looking through the doorway" picadilly. this tune is pure candy. "she's not a picture above somebody's fire. she sits in her towel with a purple hairdryer. she waits to get even with me. she hooks up her cupcakes and puts on her jumper, explains that she'll be late to her worrying mother. she meets me in Picadilly" cupcakes? became a trendy phrase du-jour in our junior high. and what about, "The cab took us home through a night I'd not noticed; the neon club lights of adult films and Trini Lopez; my arm around her but my acting was hopeless..."? who comes up with pearls like that? had there been an 'Other' option for the poll, i would've voted for 'picadilly', but there wasn't, so i went with 'annie get your gun'. great lyrics... euphemisms and slang, risque themes, flavorful imagery, all served over great hooks. whistledog 10-19-04, 08:34 PM Black Coffee in Bed :thumb: stlkev70 10-21-04, 09:10 AM Tempted! Tintor 10-21-04, 12:53 PM As many before me Tempted...as second I would choose "cool for cats" which is strangely not in the list or was it a 70's song... |
