I was trying to recall the significance of friendship pins. I recall that you wore them on your shoelaces, and the more you had the more friends you supposedly had. I seem to remember the colors of the beads playing some sort of significance as well. I can also remember kids making friendship bracelets as well. Some people had so many pins in their shoelaces, they could hardly walk!!! Did anybody else wear or make friendship pins???

I never had the pins, but I had the bracelets. Don't remember any meaning to the colors used though.

We just asked the friends what colors they liked, and then made the pins/bracelets with those colors. I was in a club at school, and for our fundraiser, we made the friendship bracelets and sold them for .50 each. Made quite a little bundle.

I remember these!
We use to make them all the time and share them with close friends. We wore them on our shoe laces.. and our shirts.
Red.. meant you were in love with someone ..
Pink.. someone loved you
White.. meant you were close friends
Blue.. friendship forever

Did you wear them or did you toss them aside?

Hey... I wasn't foolish. Any chance I get to make out with a girl in High School, I'd do a lot of things. LOL :naughty:

I remember making those!! :) We didn't use any special color scheme either - just what everyone liked.

I don't remember the colors having meanings either. Interesting! I had these all over my tennis shoes in the 6th grade!

I used to make the bracelets like crazy!! In fact, I still make them once in a while! My husband wanted an ankle bracelet and he wanted it to look thick and tribal so I picked up some embroidery floss and I remembered how to make them, no problem!!

I didn't remember about those till my daughter asked me about them. I guess they are back in full splendor here..and I had totally forgotten what color beads meant what! I know that dependant on whom your friends were, certain colors meant certain things...at least where I came from!

I do remember we had certain colors for people we didn't get along with very well. We gave them out to those people with a certain color combo that acted as a warning to our "clique" about certain characteristic to look for. We really got complex! But generally we just made them for eachother and they were a good thing!

I was searching for the meaning of the colors, but couldn't find anything on the net. Fortunatly, I'm a pack rat and I managed to find a color code I had cut from a package way back in the 80s. Here's the code they give...
On the front of the package it says
blue is for hugs and kisses, yellow good friend, white pussycat, red sweetheart, orange buddy, green enemy
On the other side it has a "Universal Colour Code"
white : gentle, blue: happy, yellow: intelligent, green: envious, black: sad
turquoise: sensitive, orange: calm, red: strong, vigorous
Mostly my friends and I just did color combinations that we thought looked good. But the color code was good to make sure you didn't offend anyone.
I know this is a really old thread, but hopefully this will help anyone else like me who was searching for the meaning of friendship pin bead colors

I used to have them and make them all the time. I'd only make them for my closest friends. Can't remember how to make them now though :(

I haven't seen those since I was 12, but I remember how fun they were. I don't think we had meanings for the colors, we just made them for our friends in whatever colors we liked.

80's fanatic, they were safety pins with beads. ;)
