View Full Version : Best Animated Feature
For the first time in the history of the Academy Awards, they are giving the animated film it's due. The Academy Awards have created the new category: "Best Animated Feature". In celebration of this achievement and recognition, let's vote on the three films nominated and see who 'WE' think will walk away with the coveted Oscar! :thumb:
You forgot to vote, Trixter! ;) So I got to be first!!! Wooo Hooo!! lol
I voted for Jimmy Neutron. I haven't seen any of these films, but from the commercials, I'd say J.N. has the best graphics. I dunno about the best plot, though.
I'd have to say that the one I'm most interested in seeing is Monsters, Inc., though. :)
80sTrivia 2-17-02, 04:57 PM I voted for Shrek. I thought that it was brilliant. To be truthful, I haven't seen the other two offerings, but I gather from the critics' reviews that Shrek is the standout...
I haven't seen Jimmy Neutron, Monsters Inc. or Shrek.

Same here. I just now got to see "A Bug's Life" on the Disney Channel on Friday night.
angeleyes25 2-18-02, 12:03 AM Shrek!Donkey Rules!
LadyMysTrix 2-18-02, 01:12 AM That was kinda hard. I've seen all three. But I voted Shrek. I really liked the cast and storyline. The spoof on Disney characters was the best.
And yes, Donkey does Rule.
But the gingerbread man cracks me up the most.
Hey Trixter, 'not my gundrop buttons.'
Shrek.
Shrek is genious satire. The other two are...deplorable.
Dancingdoll1986 2-20-02, 09:56 PM I saw Shrek just a few weeks ago and laughed my arse off!!! I loved that she was really a monster instead of a princess. Perfect!!
Monsters Inc. I loved the animation in that movie.
I really enjoyed it.
After the movie I bought the figures, blankets, sheets, and the pillows of them... my sons bedroom is full of the Monsters.
majorfan11 2-21-02, 10:47 AM Shrek
The80sAngel 2-21-02, 03:09 PM Shrek, hands down! I laughed my arse off when I saw it. :) And every fairy tale should end with Princess-As-Ogre, at least in my book. ;)
I went with Shrek. ;) I have yet to see the other ones. I think Monsters Inc. looks good. ;)
Of those three, I had to go with Shrek. Although, I personally think they should retro vote "Tron" in. Great stuff for its time.
I haven't seen "Jimmy Neutron". But "Shrek" and "Monsters, inc" are both good films. I don't know why "Final Fantasy" hasn't nominated, in my opinion is the best one technically (oh, maybe was made one year ago  ). And I agree with Shakey, "Tron" was revolutionary "for its time"; I'm a fan of Moebius designs. In my personal time machine, I'd rescue "Nightmare before Christmas"... I love it... although is not a computer's work...

I liked this one also. :)
mabas9395 2-22-02, 11:51 AM I've seen all three. Since adults vote for the Oscars, I think that Shrek will win. And I give it my vote as well. It definately appealed to adults more than the other two.
However, my five year old voted for JNBG.
BTW, did anyone else notice that the first year animated features have their own category, they are all computer animated? Animation has come along way from Snow White (the first full length animated feature-hand drawn) to The Black Hole (the first movie to use CGI) to Toy Story (the first fully computer animated movie). The direction of animation is certainly computers.
BTW2, The Tron 20th Anniversary DVD came out last month. I highly reccomend it. And if you know anything about computers, parts of it are actually pretty funny.
Although Jimmy Neutron is good (taken in on XMas eve with the family-not having a clue what it was about), it is hard to top Shrek. I haven't seen Monsters Inc. yet (gasp) but certainly look forward to it. By the by, Shrek 2 is now in the works...

*shakes head at the young, blinded child* Did you even see Monsters Inc., M-4?
It was close, but I give the nod to Monsters Inc. Shrek was great, but tried too hard to be "cool".
The computer animation in Monsters Inc. was far superior to Shrek also. The way Sully's hair moved with the wind was amazing. This was a first for computer animation. Hair is the most difficult thing to animate. Most of the time it looks like the hair on a GI Joe. Pixar's animators used over 3 million different animated hairs so that they moved lifelike.
Also, the little side jokes. When they walk through the city of Monstropolis, read some of the signs in shop front windows. When the blob falls through a subway grating and exclaims, "Oh, great...." Little things like that. Plus, the short movie before hand was hilarious.
Don't get me wrong, Shrek was great also, I just think that the little touches made Monsters Inc. a better film.
Plus, they didn't have to resort to making fun of the other company to get the job done either. That kind of made Dreamworks' people look a little childish.
Savedge1 3-02-02, 10:39 AM My vote also goes to Monsters, Inc. The story line was more hearfelt than Shrek and didn't sink to ridiculing (agree with Pagan on that note). Shrek was more geared toward adults. Many jokes and inuendos were not appropriate for younger children.
Special effects were great on all movies when you compare them to the cartoons we grew up with in the 70's (Walt was da man) they've really come a long way.
Monsters, Inc. takes the cake. Shrek comes in second in my book.
idexpectnoless 3-02-02, 12:13 PM Got to see Shrek this past summer at the drive in. Great movie.
scott28883 3-09-02, 07:07 PM I voted for shrek but I havent seen the others, but monsters inc looks good. Shrek is awesome, I give it two thumbs up.:thumb:

Had to go with Shrek! I haven't seen the other two, but enjoyed Shrek a lot.
"Hear that? She called me a 'noble steed'"(Donkey):D
I know this is late, since we know who won. I think it was close between Shrek and Monsters Inc. I voted for Shrek, because I liked all the adult references.
Shortie Blonde 6-01-02, 01:09 AM SHREK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love the donkey in Shrek! I love Monsters Inc. as well...:D But I did vote Shrek...
