View Full Version : you first had alcohol
Ok the original topic was when you had your first hangover.
Well now how about..... where were you when first had alcohol? Whether it was beer, wine, hard, or otherwise.
By this I don't mean when you necessarily got wasted. Maybe you just had a few sips and hated it, or you drank plenty but weren't hung over.
Either way... heres my story:
I was about... 17 I guess. I finally had my drivers license and my brother invited me out to the gravel pit with a bunch of others. There was tons of beer but I couldn't handle it. I drank some wine coolers. Loved those! I think by the end of the night I drank 1 or 2 beers. Been so long ago I can barely remember.
My stomach was floating for an hour or so. Didn't puke, didn't get hung over, but I HATED beer. Took me years to develop a taste for it.
Now I'm a full blown alcoholic... (just kidding)
Mystery Woman 2-13-02, 02:17 AM My sister and I were never told we couldn't have alcohol, so it was never a taboo sort of thing with us. When I was a kid, I loved mixing drinks and serving them at my parents' parties. I was always allowed to try a sip of whatever they were drinking. And whenever wine was served with dinner, my sister and I even had our own little wine glasses. Everyone in my family drinks beer (because half of them work for the brewery so it's free), and we were always allowed to have that. I stopped even tasting it at an early age though, because I never did find any alcoholic beverage I liked, so I guess they were pretty safe with me. My sister, on the other hand...

Caligula 2-13-02, 06:25 AM The first time I ever tasted it would have been real young like 6-7 etc. My father would always let me take a sip out his bottle if he was having a beer, I wan't getting to drink a whole bottle or anything, but he would let me take a sip. The first time I had too much to drink or was drunk was 11 or 12 and it wasn't planned. My cousin and I were loading wood at my grandmothers and she had a big keg of homemade apple cider in the basement. Everytime we brought an armful of firewood downstairs we would take a mouthful of apple cider, so after a while the two of us were staggering around and acting like asses and my father and uncle were wondering wtf was going on...........they soon discovered what was happening and we were punished
outofplacechild 2-13-02, 12:46 PM First time...Christmas '95.
Last time...either Christmas of '96 or '97, I forget which.
I haven't had a drink since then. I made a resolution to become a teetotaler.
Sincerely,
John "outofplacechild" Kilduff...
Hardcore straight-edge!
I was in Long Beach, California at a Labor Day picnic. I was 12 and my freind and I snuck over to the barrels of ice and beer and took two apiece! Everyone was playing softball or cooking, so we had a little siesta with a couple breskies! I remember gettin' sick and lookin' bad. It wasn't hard for the adults to guess what we've been up to! A good memory indeed!! :thumb:
Sara Smile 2-13-02, 01:16 PM I was 15 and on vacation in Italy. My dad wanted me to taste wine. I had one glass and it was all nice and relaxed. Then my brother thought it would be funny to give me more wine, so he gave me a whole bottle in the hotelroom. I was sick for two days. I'm still not a big wine drinker today. Yuck Yuck. :goofy: :vibrator: :goofy:
Somebody spiked the punch at a wedding reception when I was four... LOL! Bad memory! I was sick for days afterward. My mother was absolutely furious. The worst part was, I was going to start kindergarten in the fall, and all my teachers were at the wedding... I was remembered as the "kid who threw up all over the place at so'n'so's wedding." Let me just say that it is a Very Small Town.
By the time I actually started school, I became remembered as "the kid who bit the principal," so I lived down my first (and, so far, last) episode of public drunkenness. Tee hee.
I was 14 and my parents wern't home. My friend Rhonda and Rick were at my house. We decide to try our hand at making fuzzy navels. :p I got grounded for 2 weeks .
RetroMan 2-15-02, 09:22 AM The first time I had a 'sip' of an alcoholic drink was when I was 8, it was on the morning Australia won the America's Cup Yacht Race - I though it was the worst thing I'd ever tasted!
Later down the track when I was sixteen, a large group of my best friends and I were at my parent's beach house and we decided to try our luck for a carton of beer - we sent my 'oldest looking' friend in and the bottle shop guy sold him one!! only one of us had a drivers licence back then and wasn't game enought to drive, so we had to run with the carton all the way back to the beach house in the dark. It was a really exciting time - we felt like special agent spys stealing an important document.
We got stuck into the beers that night and ended up violently ill the next day, but I guess it's all part of growing up.
mullet man 2-15-02, 09:45 AM ahhh the memories I was 14 i think in grade 8 and i was one of those rebels without a cause kind of kid and of course hungout with the same. Anyway one weekend one of my buddies parents left town for the week-end......So PARTY TIME. Made the worst mistake in my life and got my older brother to pull some booze for use. I decided on lemon gin(because i thought it would taste good). Well we all got sick played the music to loud (It was Quiet Riot ,the crappy new one after Metal health come to think of it).
So i fell down some stairs broke a picture, banged my head, and ripped my new motley crue shirt , but i didnt spill my drink!!LOL
I was about 15 and at a friend's family welcome summer party or something. There were a gazillion of her relatives and half the neighborhood. Her uncle sat us down and taught about four of us how to play quarters...with champagne.
LOSTNTHE80S 12-02-02, 01:00 PM There was always some sort of alcohol around the house. My friends and I would sneak a can of dad's PBR (I know..nasty) and after three sips...we would be "drunk" LOL!
I waited till I was 21. It was cool drinking wine coolers in the dorm rooms. Those were the days..:)
Shortie Blonde 12-02-02, 03:22 PM I've yet to, and I don't want to.
**lovin the straight edge vibe**
Roemello 12-02-02, 03:47 PM I stayed away from alcohol til I was either 19 or 20...I had a mamosa xmas morning :p Took me forever to finish...I was avoiding losing my mind to drunkness at all costs  I didn't have my first real 'buzz' til two summers ago...4 glasses of wine...that was interesting...
ShereKahn 12-09-02, 06:40 AM I was six, and my Grandfather had taken a break from mowing the lawn and was sitting in a chair in the shade with a Miller beer. I finally just HAD to know what was so pleasant about drinking a cold beer in the heat. My poor Grandfather, (God rest his soul) nearly died laughing at me after giving me a sip. I didn't bother with alcohol again until I was fourteen or so.
As a strange aside to that story, I drink beer now and again and I prefer Guiness Stout, but interestingly every single time I drink a Miller beer, I get the hiccups. No other beer does that to me, no other DRINK does that to me. I wonder if there are any psychologists out there with a theory. :)
My dad always used to give me drinks of his Grain Belt (anyone know this beer?) when I was just a kid (4 or 5). I always thought I was going to be cool like him and drink GB too. After I aged a bit, I realized what absolute swill it is and got off of that...Give me a nice cold Killian's Red anytime!!!
I was two - on a train from Copenhagen to Horsens. It included a lot of soldiers going home on leave, a charming kid who wanted to taste everything going from cabin to cabin (me!) and a mom who thought her kid was in good hands :D I got so wasted that my mother had one of the soldiers carry me into a cab ;) Well, why postpone the enivitable - got tha' try it once anyway
Slayergrrl 12-16-02, 12:13 PM Yikes. I was 15. My friend Mandy and I got our hands on two 40's of Heffenwreckers.(I don't even know the real name of the stuff haven't touched it since that night) I was never so sick in my life. I layed off the stuff for a while. But my teenage curiosity got the better of me. I realized my limits pretty quickly. Now i'm a proud Amstel Light drinker. The occasional Manderin woo-woo shot.
Rhelawen 12-16-02, 12:54 PM My first taste of alcohol was in 1987. I was 14, and my friends and I somehow got a hold of a couple of cans of piss-warm Coors Lite. I remember sitting across from the school, drinking my beer and feeling pretty damn tough. I was the only one that finished my beer, and never said a word about how godawful I thought the stuff tasted. I still don't care for the taste of beer. Give me a Long Island Iced Tea, rum & coke, or a shot (or two) of Jack Daniels anyday. :D

Hm, sounds like another staple of mine when I was growing up...warm Miller Lite...Ye gads, I will never drink that stuff again!
PontiacKendall 4-05-04, 02:25 AM I was about 10 years old and dad was taking me to Little League baseball practice. On the way there I was sitting in the back of the car with his box of Miller ponies. By the time we got to practice I had drank 2 of them and had fallen fast asleep. The coach found out I had been drinking and didn't let me practice. Dad wasn't pleased.
I feel so out of place in society because i have NEVER touched alcohol in my life. It could be that i would see the state my older brothers would get in on a regular basis or that my parents were also teetotal (dad because of his war experiences, mum because of aneurisms). But the funny thing is that every time i decline alcohol my company always assume that i must be a recovering alcoholic!
I was 14 and out with a couple of older friends from my neighborhood. We decided to go down to Tijuana, Mexico and go to the clubs because they were so lax with ID checks. I had a pretty good fake one, good enough for TJ at least.
Before we went we downed a bottle of Old English 800 each, needless to say I was flying by the time we got there. I never became much of a drinker though, still not now.
ILovethe80s 6-19-04, 03:26 AM I was 16 and weighed all of 100 lbs. My parents had gone on vacation and left the house with my older siblings in charge so we had a party and I got $h!tfaced off ZIMA :barf:!!! My best friend and I drank 3 cases of that crap between the two of us, Gawd I am so surprised I didn't need to go to the hospital that night from alcohol poisoning. Ugh...next question please lol
Love,
Mary

DJ Midas 7-23-04, 07:02 PM I recall my mom giving me a beer at a block party when I was 15. I wasn't much into it at the time.
The first time I bought alcohol I was 17. Didn't even have a fake ID at that time and was afraid I'd get busted. But the sweet little old lady at Circle K let me get away with buying a case and a half of beer.
redhotchilipapa 7-23-04, 07:16 PM I was 6 at my Aunt Sally's wedding and my other Aunt Mary taught me how to 'Chug' Champagne. :mwaha:
The first time I drank a beer was right out side my house... because that is where all my friends hung out... I drank about half of it and THOUGHT I was DRUNK hahaha..
but it did not take me long to aquire the taste.. and I have loved beer ever since.. .but I have not always drank it... I just recently started back.. and I dearly love my beer... :)
PunkyPower 7-26-04, 02:46 AM I don't remember the first time I ever tasted alcohol because my dad was always letting us taste whatever he was drinking. I do remember my brother and I getting into some whiskey once when we were young - maybe 8 or so - and my brother declared "you're gonna be an alcoholic when you grow up!" The same brother became my buyer in college years later.
The first time I really drank was right after high school graduation. My friends and I were having a sleepover and we decided to smuggle some beer out of the garage. My job was to distract my friend's mom while a couple other girls put cans of beer in an empty case of pop. They made a big production of getting it past the mom because after we had opened our prize and had a few sips, the mom came knocking at the bedroom door. My friend went out to talk to her in the hallway for a few minutes while the rest of us freaked out. She came back in and started collecting the cans because her mom told her that we "didn't have to drink the warm stuff in the garage because there's cold beer in the fridge in the kitchen." :thumb:
SouthernImage 7-26-04, 01:34 PM I was 15. My dads friend owned a liquor store. So we pretty much had anything we wanted available to us at all times. My dad was drinking Long Island Ice teas and decided to have me make them. Never making drinkings before I put the ingredients together as they told me to. Well it was so strong that my dads friend said I had to drink it since I goofed it. Well I made two drinks which means I goofed 2 right?? So there I am sucking down two Long Island ices teas. Boy was I ****ed up. I remember going to the living room instead of the family room and just jellin on the couch. After that they created a monster and I was sneaking Rum and whiskey in my coke bottles and taking them to school.
First time I tasted alcohol was when I was about 8 or 9. My grandpa let me take sips of his beer.
First time I got drunk was when I was 14 at a friends house. Her older brother and his friends were drinking it & offered us some. I got so drunk & swore I would never drink again. Yeah right, that thought lasted as long as a snowball in Hell
I know we sipped booze a lot from a very early age. First drunk was (although not a totally serious one) was on a couple of pints of Double Diamond at my uncle's wedding. My brother and I would have been somewhere between 7 and 9. A lot of people thought it was funny that these little kids were sitting up at the bar and drinking from pint glasses. A couple of the men around bought us the pints and encouraged us.
Then we started brawling in the parking lot with the young kids from the in-laws side of the family. Funny thing is...we still do. Man, I love Ireland.
First serious drunken stupour would have been when I was 13. At the time I had no idea what 3/4 of a bottle of Rye could do to a young man. But I found out the hard way and woke up the next day fully-clothed in a cold bath and my Dad standing over me with a look that I hope I never see again lol.
Not a PC thug 11-19-04, 09:51 PM I collected beer cans when I was young, so I'd get my dad to buy neat looking beers, and he always made me take a sip.
The first time I really had beer was when I was 14. A couple of friends picked up some beer and went into this house that one of them was watching while the neighbors were gone. I only had 3 beers and didn't really get a buzz. The other dudes got wasted. I managed to get busted when my brother told my mom when heard my friends acting loud and stupid. They didn't get in trouble
The first time I got trashed was at a keg party when I was 16. Ahhh, the good old days.
jillybean 11-19-04, 11:18 PM I'm sure I had sips of beer when I was younger when my dad would have a beer once in awhile. My parents didn't drink, my dad would only have a beer when he ran out of pop. Anyway, the first time I had my OWN was probably 7th or 8th grade with my friend Julie. We grabbed a couple cans out of the fridge and took the 4-wheeler to ride on some trails and then we stopped to have my very first Marlboro Red and a can of Stroh's. The beer did nothing for me but that red had the best of me. First time actually inhaling. Wow.
stlkev70 11-20-04, 12:18 AM I was 5 years old, yes 5! My Mom left a half can of Falstaff beerhttp://pages.prodigy.net/indianahawkeye/newpage22/2.gif,I drank the remains of the can! My Mom didn't catch me til I had the last sip down! I didn't have a nother one til I was 20!
whistledog 11-20-04, 12:22 AM I've yet to taste a drop of beer. Perhaps someday I may
Tanya1976 11-20-04, 04:10 AM First time I took a sip was when I was about 15. The first time I got drunk I was 17.
I don't remember the specific first sip, but I remember the first time I got drunk. I was with my cousin and we mixed all kinds of stuff in big ol' cups. I eneded up barfing on my mom, my dog and myself before my parents dragged me down to the basement where I passed out.
They still laugh about it on occasion.
ha ha
When I was about 8 or 9 as well..and the same way most here in this thread started...Old dad giving my a sip of his beer.
Rigormortis 4-15-05, 12:27 AM I always took sips of my parents unguarded Hudephol's at family functions. Hudy was a pretty good beer on tap back then. I've only had a few instances as an adult where a beer tasted as good as it did when I was a kid. (It's generally pretty good, but I can remember specific instances where it tasted GREAT, and they're few and far between.)
The first time I abused alcohol was at a wedding when I was in high school. It had snowed like crazy all day and only a few of the people who were supposed to be at this wedding actually came. The reception hall was almost empty and my buddy and I decided that letting all that beer go to waste would be a crime. Luckily I was within walking distance of my house. On the walk home I stopped to watch a bank of snow slide off of a Firebird at the bottom of the street. It took about five or ten minutes to completely slide off of the hood of the car, but I thought it was coo-ell. Turns out that my mom and dad were watching me the whole time and they grilled me pretty good when I walked in the door. I went upstairs and sat on my bed, and the next thing I knew it was Sunday morning. I had a bad case of cottonmouth, but that was about it.
I was almost 4. It was our family reunion and I thought I'd play a joke on my uncle who usually brought a big cooler of beer. While everyone was busy with family pictures, I swiped a beer and hid behind one of the buildings to drink it. I ended up throwing the whole can away since I didn't like the taste. And now I drink it like it's barley flavored pop. Guess I've been building up a tolerance since 1984. :D
Metalfan83 4-15-05, 09:12 PM I was 9. My sister had a bottle of peach schnapps. She poured a little into a shot glass, and told me it was orange juice. I haven't drank since. Nor can I drink orange juice.
Birdman660 5-03-05, 09:01 PM Surfer boy. Youngest of an older crowd. I guess I was about 12. After surf bonfire on the beach with beer was kind of a tradition.
BrownEyedGirl 5-03-05, 09:13 PM I'm sure I tasted beer as a child here and there but i don't really remember. The first time I drank with friends I was 14. I was in marching band and the football game that night was cancelled so the whole drumline went to the captain's house and one of the guys managed to get alot of beer and we played quarters. That was a fun night ;)
tommypuettfan71 5-27-05, 05:06 PM My mom and dad gave me beer when I was two, I still hate them for doing that!!
fungirl3 5-30-05, 01:51 AM I was about 11, home alone and watching the Hangin' Tough video. I thought it was as good a time as any to be a badass so I thought I'd have a beer... At the time Dad was drinking... GENNY CREAM ALE!!!! :barf: In a can, no less. For those who don't know, that stuff is so disgusting!
I stayed away from beer for a very long time, until I was 15, drinking OE 40oz wit da boyz (nuthin but a G thang, baby!) :thumb:
willowbythesea 5-30-05, 05:21 PM My family never came out and said we couldn't have any alcohol so I was always around the stuff. I remember once my brother brought home this really awful girl that everyone hated and he kept making me come into his room to talk to her because I'm the one that gets on really well with him and our younger sister wasn't there. I was so mad I grabbed the bottle of Jack Daniels standing by his bed and made that my breakfast.
The other time was when my stepmother decided to give me some Jägermeister, a very lethal German shnaps. She didn't realise that I hadn't had breakfast and gave me a cup full. She gave me a lift into town. I was stumbling around all over the place after that.
Having said that although mum had a beer on occasion I hate the stuff. Never managed to develop a taste for it.
I was 13 ! I drank a six pack of beer with some friends .. The friends parents were gone out for the night and we paid some dude at the 7-11 to buy us some beer ! It was the WORST hangover ever !!!
frothy latte 10-13-05, 04:30 PM I was 6. It wasn't actually a drink, but some boubon balls and a liquor lollipop. HEY!! I thought the grownups were hiding the goodies from us kids. My first REAL drink(s) was at 16. I drank 3 Long Island Teas in a row. Lets just say I felt real good :D. I'm lucky though, I NEVER have suffered a hangover.:yesnod:
b_angie_b 11-13-05, 02:07 PM We were always allowed to have a little glass of wine during holiday dinners and sips of my Dad's beer but my first real alcohol to get drunk would have to be the fall of 1982 before the Homecoming game. We each drank a bottle of Boones! So yummy and cheap! I got tore up and puked most of the night. Fun Fun:laugh:
