Select your favorite of these OHW's...

The Future's so bright I gotta wear shades.

Loved that song. It was one of those gimmicky kind of songs I just couldn't get enough of.

Hey 80sTrivia, once we're done with these OHW polls we'll have to do an over all one for the ones with the highest votes.

I voted for "Stay", by 'Shakespeare's Sister'! :thumb: I loved the song and video. Siobahn Fahey looked damn good as the Evil Temptress or Vixen of Death!! :)

I voted for "Heart and Soul" I consider that one of my "Guilty Pleasures". It was one of those songs where I didn't like that kind of music at the time, but I really liked that one song. You know, where you changed the radio station real fast if any of your friends were coming. I was 13 when this song came out so at that age, it was real important to protect your "image".

I hope I'm not the only one who has these 'guity pleasures'. If there are enough of us out there, I was thinking that would be a good thread; Guilty Pleasure Confessions.

Good idea Recker. We could have a OHW single elimination tournament.

I voted for "Lean On Me" by Club Nouveau. That was a catchy song. ;)

There is actually such a thread in one of the forums somewhere that was getting a lot of action over a month ago. I believe it is in one of the music forums somewhere. Go liven it back up :) There have been a lot of new members in since then.

Hey by the way Mabas, you never did answer my question about your name. Is that inspired from the dark prophecies of Nostradamus?

Out of those I picked "Cars" by Gary Numan.

I chose Gary Numan's Cars. When was it released? I know it's an '80s hit, but I don't know which year the song was released.

I believe the song "Cars" was released in Europe in late 1979, but charted here in the States in early 1980...

It took me a while to decide who to vote for in my own poll! After some thought, I decided to go with my Wonder Twin and vote for Shakespear's Sister's "Stay". Okay, so this song came out in the early-90s, but it has that 80s feel to it, plus it has Bananarama's Siobahn Fahey, so that counts in my book. It's a beautiful, haunting song and I love it.

My second vote would go to Donna Allan's "(Talk About) Serious". This is a great 80s R&B song, with a touch of hip/hop flavor with a rap sequence. Great song that you never hear today!

OOoooooOOooh, Gary Numan one hit wonder? Controversial!

In America, maybe. In Europe definately not, Big 'Bazza' Numan as he was known had a massive following of fans called...wait for it... 'Numanoids' Er, did I mention I used to be a 'Numanoid?'

Loads of top 20 hits for Gary in the UK including:

'We Are Glass'
'Are Friends Electric?'
'We take Mystery to Bed'
'She's got claws'

And a comeback in 1985 under Sharpe & Numan with 'Change your mind'. And 'Cars' has been re-released in the UK more times that I can remember.

I know that acts such as Gary Numan, T'Pau and Mel & Kim had more that one hit in Europe. But, they only had one major hit each in this country, so that's why I included them on the list. Heck, every act I listed could have had multiple hits in other parts of the world, for all I know!!! :)

BTW, Steve; who did you vote for?

I voted for MARRS, only because 'Cars' was released in the UK in 1979 so I've never really counted that as a true 80's song, otherwise it would have been 'Cars'.

80sTrivia
2-12-02, 09:14 PM
Well, it looks as if Gary Numan's "Cars" has taken the lead in this poll. I believe I'll post one final OHW best-of poll, then we'll have a run off election to find out what the ultimate OHW of the 80s will be!!! :)

I voted for "We don't have to take our clothes off".I really like that tune.:)

I went for Pump Up The Volume because some of the others aren't one hit wonders to me. It was close with The Futures So Bright, but I only bought Marrs as a single, so that's the one I went for.

I voted for "Heart and Soul". We had this song on the jukebox at the Godfather's Pizza where I worked. I spent more quarters on that song than I would like to admit. I loved it and still do. When I hear it on the radio, I crank that baby up!!!

I voted for Pump up the volume. That is one of my favorite dance songs from the eighties. I also like the Gary Numan song very much.

80sTrivia
2-13-02, 02:27 PM
So "Pump Up the Volume" by M/A/R/R/S is in the lead so far. That's interesting. I've always liked the song, but I know quite a few people who can't stand it, and it is a pretty unique song! :)

I do!It's one of my favorite one hit wonders.Wasn't Abracadabra a one hit wonder also?I forgot who sings it though.I like that song a lot too! Some of the other one hot wonders I really like are Send Me An Angel and Obession.(At least I think these were one hit wonders.)I would really like to see these songs in a future poll although if you put them all up against each other it would be really hard for me to pick one!

A three-way tie! That's pretty interesting. :) There may be a few straggler votes to break the tie!

My vote for "the Rain", a great song. Closley followed by "The future's so bright...".

Just to be a pain again, T'pau is definatley no one hit wonder, after all China in your hand was an even bigger song than Heart and soul. I already talked about Gary Numan not being a one hit wonder in another threat, so i agree with Chopper.

I went with Stay as my favorite from the entire list... I was originally going to say SS wasn't exactly a 1 hit wonder group, but sadly in the US they were. In the UK on the other hand....

Anyhoo they're one of my Fav bands :D Both Shuv & Marcy are up to some great things these days

Non of the above. A list with bad songs. Late 80's is not my favourite period. Music was heading towards dance and rap and lost it's real 80's feeling.

I went with "We Don't Have To Take Our Clothes Off" by Jermaine Stewart, although he may not be a one-hit wonder because he had another song called "The Word Is Out."

"Pump Up The Volume" by M/A/R/R/S was a real close second for me with "The Rain" by Oran "Juice" Jones for my third choice.
