I believe it was Wavemeister who said Germany didn't have country charts in the 80's? Did any other country besides the U.S. have country charts?

View Full Version : Just curious to our non U.S.A. residents djdaffy1227 2-10-02, 05:14 PM I believe it was Wavemeister who said Germany didn't have country charts in the 80's? Did any other country besides the U.S. have country charts? wavemaster 2-11-02, 12:27 AM Yes, you are right, Daffy - Germany didnīt listed a Country chart, as Country (US style) didnīt had/have the same impact on sales here. I guess that most Germans think that Garth Brooks and Billy Ray Cyrus are Country as hell... ;) In fact, there were only the 'pure' Single and Album charts available until the 90s when different groups of interest began to set up own charts for their style of music (DAC German Alternative Charts, DDC German Dance Charts etc.). Some of them are still semiofficial. Besides, German 'traditional' music is very different to American, you canīt even compare them. And before the US citizens are going to boo me now...we had a short phase in the late 70s in which Country was quite successful, a German band named Truck Stop was regulary in the charts with US style country featuring German lyrics. ;) Cartoon_Chris 2-11-02, 12:39 AM Canada had country charts in the '80s. Bogie 2-11-02, 01:05 PM "Big Joe Mufferaw, paddlin' the Mattawa, All the way from Ottawa, In just one day" :D I still get a huge kick out of Stompin' Tom Connors. Bogie, he's the most underrated country artist in Canadian history, his songs definately liven up a pub:) djdaffy1227 2-12-02, 10:11 PM I used to listen to a Canadian country station out of Hamilton Ontario, 820 CHAM, and there was one artist I had to buy from Canada after I heard one of his songs, George Fox! The song was "The night the barn burned down", what a fabulous song! |
