View Full Version : SD: Scooby-Doo
We all know that this year will bring the release of "SD: Scooby-Doo" to theaters. It stars Freddie Prinz, Jr., Sarah Michelle-Gellar and Matthew Lillard. I have two questions:
How do y'all feel about our early morning cartoons being made into feauture films?
And
Has anyone seen how they are going to handle the character of Scooby-Doo? I'm guessing animatronics or most likely CGI.
Iluvthe80s 2-03-02, 10:11 AM Just like I do with all of these latest remakes...I don't like them! Can't anyone think of anything original to make a movie out of lately?
1) As for the cartoon being made into a movie, I am NOT whatsoever in favor of it. The Flintstones was just alright. I've seen the trailer and some stills and it does not look good.
2) Scooby Doo is done. He is CGI animated. A cross between a real dog and the cartoon version, although he looks FAR more like the real thing. If you go to google and search for "scooby doo movie", a number of links have a shot of what he looks like. Also, www.scoobydoo.com has a movie poster with him.
Personally I think he looks like $hit. I probably won't waste my money on it. I MIGHT get it on video, but I really except it to bomb at the theater this summer.
Just my take on it.
I'll watch it just to see it but I'll wait until it's released on DVD. ;)
VioletFoxx 2-03-02, 07:29 PM Scooby is sacred ground for me. It's always been one of my very favorite cartoons ever since I can remember. When I first heard they would be turning it into a feature, I thought "cool". Now that I know who the cast is and all, I'm cringing. I just don't like Freddie Prinze Jr. He bugs me. I'm sure I'll see it eventually, but I doubt it will be in a theatre. Eeek!
And yeah Stacy...why can't they come up with something original and leave some of our memories nice and intact.
I doubt I'll go see it, I'll probably wait for the video, if I even bother to get that.
I looked at the poster, and I have to say, I'm glad 'Velma' doesn't look as frumpy as she did in the cartoon, but what on earth is 'Daphne' wearing? That is not! what her dress looked like on the cartoon, it was that long sleeved purple thing with lilac colored stripes! And where is the ascot 'Freddie' should be wearing? May sound picky, but if they are gonna mess with our 'toons, at least they could do it right!!

Same here Foxxy....same here. The idea itself seemed good...then I see the cast and say, blah. Although Gellar is nice eye candy I must confess :biglick::D
Yeah who knows... I mean maybe it will be decent. I was just pretty pissed when I saw what Scooby looked like. As I said, I think he looks like $hit compared to the cartoon version. I was reading in an interview with director or writer where they said they didn't want a cartoon dog with live action actors.
I guess we won't know how is the movie is any good until june. I'm prepared for disappointment though...
AlwaysLuvJBJ 2-04-02, 03:01 PM All I gotta say is this movie better be good! I love Scooby Doo! And if they screw up anything they'll be sorry! I can't believe he's gonnna be computer animated!!!!!!!!!!!!!:devil: :mad:
Well how else would they do it? Most dogs can't talk a complete sentence. I thought he would be hand animated. I won't be surprised if the movie is disappointing. I figured the villian was going to be animation as well, but thats not the case. Just your typical bad guy.
80sTrivia 2-04-02, 08:28 PM I don't know, the idea of a movie Scooby Doo has absolutely no appeal to me. If I want to watch Scooby, I'll watch the real thing on Cartoon Network!!! :)

AlwaysLuvJBJ 2-05-02, 02:05 PM Same here, nothing better then the cartoon version!;)
pufnstuf69 2-06-02, 08:46 PM This is my input on a cartoon made into a live action movie.
Its fine,as along they get the right people who know what their doing,who knows about the charectors,etc.For starters it's hard to take something from a cartoon or comic book& made into a live action movie.Here are some good example that this could work out that fans of scooby-doo&general people who might enjoy it.
........................Good Example ..........................................
X-men movie{well done,one good& smart thing they did was Letting Stan Lee have input on how things are in the x-men}
2.Blade{Based on marvel comics charector}
3.Lord Of The Rings
4. Sleepy Hollow{1999]
5.Flintstones Via-Rock Vegas
6.Jossie&The Pussycats movie{2001}
The First flintstone movie I thought was done crapy,Rosie was too fat for being Betty,John Goodman made a bad Fred.
The Flintstones Via rock Vegas the actors looked close to the charectors,very well done!!
Now some Bad examples are:
The adventures Of Rocky&Bullwinkle:This allmost made it to good example,but the story line&adding this dumb girl from the FBI had nothing to do with any episodes of Rocky&bullwinkle.But they did a good job with computer images of Rocky&Bullwinkle.
Another{I will get slam for this...}All those BatMan movies,not too true to the comic books.
Bottom Line you need to have these done by true fans of this,oh yeah one more Bad Example not that this was a cartoon,But Tim Burtons Planet Of The Apes should have never been made!!
So this live Action scooby-doo movie could be good if done right!!:hammer: :hammer: :hammer:
AlwaysLuvJBJ 2-07-02, 02:38 PM They better not mess up!:hammer:
RetroMan 2-10-02, 07:44 AM In my opinion, I don't know if they are going to pull it off - it's not an easy task to make a Scooby Doo Motion Picture that's not animated.
They are currently filming the movie in Australia, in Queensland. Aparently since The Matrix, Australia is the most popular place for making movies, but i don't think even that can save this one - I just can't picture it in my head (what it's going to be like) I sure hope they do a good job. Scooby is an icon
