Vegetarians among us? What made you decide this lifestyle? This is something I don't fully understand, I confess. I'd like to learn a little more about it. :)

I am not a "real" vegitarian, but I don't eat red meat, chicken, pork, veal.....just seafood. (Does that count?) I have lactose intolerance, so that's out. My tummy isn't able to tolerate meat all that much.....my tummy hates all of that stuff. So, I have been like this for about 20 years....my mom was so happy that she had to make "special meals" for me!!

Aron doesn't like it....I have to make special meals for him.....he eats EVERYTHING.....if it's dead, he'll eat it. (Roadkill?!? It's dead, right? HAHAHAHAH!!!!)

Since the definition of vegetarianism is "the abstinence from meat, fish, and fowl" I can't be considered a vegetarian. I do, however, only eat meat on rare occasions - I stopped eating pork back in the 80s (my mum was NOT pleased about that) and added red meat in the early 90s. I eat seafood and chicken when I cook for myself - but I'm not "hysterical" about it when I'm eating at a friend's place or when I'm at home (my mum knows what to expect now anyway :D).....

Whats the deal with Pork?... I see alot of people specifically mention they don't eat pork, Is pork like the anti christ of meats to vegetarians?. I know Jewish people don't eat it, but I even had a neighbor in Toronto from Jamaica who was terrified of it, he always thought I was trying to trick him into eating it, of course I wasn't ( i'm not gonna pull a practical joke on someone's beliefs)

Some religions see pigs as being an unclean creature, which is why it is forbidden to eat pork.

Cal, I know in our church(Baptist), the pastors wife would not eat pork. Something about the bible saying a pig is a filthy animal and/ or split hoofed??? I am not sure exactly. I know the pastor did not agree with her. They were talking about it one day but I tuned it out... LOL

I'm a Baptist also and besides singing country and western songs during church, I don't think pork was ever named as an evil. I have heard heard people speak of a "cloven hoof"

I eat any type of red meat.. horse, beef, women.. but not pork.. no sausage... thank the powers that be for turkey bacon... but I can handle pork bacon alright... I love seafood... not allergic to anything.. bugs are good too... I'm a carbo person.. give me rice and pasta.. and I'll give you a 20 mile run.. but I eat lots of horse and beef during my training for a match.. red meat helps with the strength and endurance.. rice for speed and enegry..

I consider myself to be a vegetarian, however I do eat fish.

I gave up eating all kinds of meat about 12 years ago now. I never enjoyed eating meat and found it very easy to give up. I don't really have a problem with people eating meat, but the way that some animals are treated and killed is disgusting.

Whenever I tell meat eaters that I'm vegetarian, a lot of them go all defensive and go to great lenghths telling me just how much they enjoy eating meat, as if I'm going to part them from it.

My health hasn't suffered for it, I do have colour in my cheeks and I am far from looking pasty as a lot of people assume vegetarians to look.

I've never had a desire to eat meat again and I probably never will.

My children don't generally eat meat, but on occassions they have eaten it. I won't deny them meat if they ask to eat it, when they are old enough to make the decision, they will be free to do so.

I'd recommend it to anybody.

I am an "Almost" vegetarian. I don't eat steaks, pork, chicken, fish or pretty much anything else you have to kill to eat. I do have my vice though. For some reason, I am a complete addict for White Castle's. There's just nuthin' as tasty as a good onion fried slider. :biglick:

I was a vegetarian for 3 years in highschool. Why? Well, I was way into animal rights, and all that, and listened to "Meat is Murder" one too many times. *lol* just kidding, although it probably helped, i suppose. Also, a few friends of mine were vegetarians, so I gave it a try. I liked it, but I eventually gave in and slowly started eating meat again. I don't eat much now, probably because I'm afraid to cook it, but I do enjoy it. :)

I love meat of all kinds, (pork is a favorite:D ) but I can't get into the organs like liver or tongue. That's gross IMO. If I thought about the documentaries I've seen about how animals are slaughtered for food I'd never eat meat again, but fortunately I can separate those images from the benign little packages in the supermarket.

When I was in Sweden, my sister and I went to a fast food place called "King David's" and it looked a lot like a Burger King. The burgers were kind of a strange color and a little strange tasting, but we ate them anyway. A couple hours later we both got bad stomachaches. I'm pretty sure they were actually horse meat instead of cow.

I am a vegetarian that doesn't like vegetables. Seafood and turkey were the last things I gave up (seafood because of a Readers Digest article and the latter because of an episode in Subway). Eating out is the most frustrating thing. I have walked out of restaurants because they literally only had one or two things on the menu without meat.
It's not that I feel sorry for animals; I just think meat is disgusting.

I don't care how fresh it is it is still ROAD KILL.

A month ago i saw a deer get hit, it was so sad but yet very scary. They can mess up your vehicle pretty bad. Well the guy got out and drag it to the side of the road and left it. I saw that it was still alive, barely but yet alive.
Six hours later I drove by and there was a man cutting it up and putting it in his truck:eek:

OMG I am going to get SO sick. Everyone's talking about eating tongue' and ostriches.. ewwww!!! I definitely eat meat.. but that is limited to beef, pork, chicken, and deer (Greg, what's the correct term for deer meat?)... I hate seafood.. that includes shrimp, lobster, octopus, shark... any of it... with the exception of catfish (that I can eat). When I was in Australia we supposedly bought regular hamburger meat (beef) and after I cooked it.. it didn't taste right.. and I realized it was lamb (ground) .. I could not eat more than one bite. I never tried kangaroo.. sorry.. not my idea of a tasty meal. Don't want possum, snake or gator either. Keep the rabbit brains away.. as well as ox tails. No pig's feet for me TYVM :D Some of the things people eat :D j/k (not saying what I eat is any better)

People used to call me a fussy teenager, but now they just call me a fussy eater. I love corn especially popcorn, the only thing I have on sandwiches is banana's or peanut butter.

What I don't eat in vegetables, I try to make up with fruit, but they say that you should eat more veg than fruit.

Whenever someone was trying to talk with me about vegetarianism and mentioned (or played) that song by The Smiths, I used to reply "Iīm A Murder for Meat".

Without my occasional meat I think I would go nuts. I love the taste, I love the feeling of chewing it...damn, shouldnīt have started with it - itīs 5:45 am and the fast food joints havenīt opened yet. ;)
We have reduced the amount of roast beef to almost zero since the BSE-scandal (Bovine Spongiform Encephalitis, a disease which affects the brains and nerves of cows and is said to be a cause for the Creutzfeldt-Jacobs-Syndrome on humans), but we eat a lot of chicken and fish. I do like vegetables, but rarely eat some fruits - donīt ask me why.

Actually, some dishes with horse meat are a speciality of the Lower Saxonian region - thereīs nothing better than a fresh hot horse meat sausage at the spring fair. I guess that this traditon had fallen into oblivion since horses had become a kind of pet in the recent years instead of being utility animals for farming.
