Has anyone here considered having plastic surgery or has had plastic surgery?

Living in such a youth and appearance oriented culture, I believe most of us have thought about changing or enhancing some part of our face or bodies at least once. I've had a few touch ups over the years. I had a rhinoplasty (nose job) when I was in college. It was one of the best things that I've ever done for myself. Don't get me wrong, the procedure hurt quite a bit, but the outcome was worth the pain and expense. I've had some other procedures performed, such as dermabrasion and acid peels. I'm not addicted to plastic surgery and I haven't transformed myself into something freakish, a la Michael Jackson. Nor am I embarrassed or ashamed to talk about it, because, why should I be? Guys are concerned about their looks, too, you know!

Is anyone out there considering having something "done"?

I had a rhinoplasty (nose job)

Was it worth it, just to get the 2 inches wide nostrils ya always dreamed of ?

Well, I didn't have a problem with my nostrils, so they are relatively unchanged. My nose was a bit too wide and had a small bump on the bridge which I had removed. I had my father's nose, and he was offended that I had it "fixed"! But I like my new nose much better than the old one!!! :D

I've never had anything done, and never really considered it, although yeah I probably could find a fault or two. I have no problem with people getting work done if they can afford it and it's what matters to them, but it seems like a lot of money that i could use elsewhere. I guess i'd rather have the bank account of a 50 year old than the ass of a 20 year old.:D

I've told you about this, Michael!! :D

I would love to have liposuction on my hips and the little "pooch" thing I have going on on my tummy. I'd like to reduce my boobs a bit more, if I had the chance as well. (I don't like the boobs...too big for me...Milani saw them, (in my clothes, thank you!!!), on my webcam and said they were big.

That's all that I'd do!!

If I had the extra money I would get some things corrected. I would get a boob job, suck some fat off my hips and stomach. I would get a nose job.
But I will never get the extra money but hey,, i can dream right?

If I had the money I wouldn't waste it on surgery.. cause I'm to damn ugly that surgery would not help.. I'll waste it on fast cars, fast women, and whole lot of vodka.. and maybe I'll start investing in the stock markets

I would never have anything major done – no actual SURGERY. After seeing a documentary on Discovery I’m just too grossed out, but I appreciate what it can do for some people who really suffer under their looks.

My nose may be crooked (I seem to have broken it?), I have a cleft in my chin (the kind that Michael Jackson had made to look more MANLY hrmpf), my stomach may not be completely flat and my waist not as narrow as it ”should” be, but this is all part of what makes me unique :D

But then….never say never…ask me again in 20 years…. *G*

After saying I've never considered it, I guess i have looked into laser surgery for my eye's and may do it in the future. It's not really plastic surgery and it would be done mostly for the convienence of not having to wear glasses or put in contacts .

TC, being one of the few here who have seen you "in the flesh" I can say you dont need any surgery. I would never have anything done. Not because I think I am perfect (far from it actually) but because I accept who/what I am and just dont care how others may see me!

Gosh, I think that a whole team of chirugists would be more than happy to get me in their hands... :D

Seriously, if someone is feeling unlucky with his/her looks and there is a reasonable chance to correct it, why not?
Had my nose broken several times during my active time as a Rugby player (maybe there was the one or another punch on it in a bar, too ;)), but the docs who had treated me in the hospital did a very good job on fixing it - the only thing you can see is a small scar if you come very close.

Recently, I saw in a TV magazine that even kids (and I mean kids!) are undergoing cosmetical corrections, not for medical reasons like a harelip but because the nose is maybe a tad too large. Apart from the possible future health threats, I can´t understand the doctors who are doing this.

I have given up on the perfect look. There will always be something we want changed about our looks, but small things like that is what makes us different. I have considered laser surgery on my eyes, but now I have heard too many horror stories to actually get it done.

I never considered plastic surgery, but after seeing the show on
The Discovery Channel it makes me wonder why anyone would want to take such a risk.

Indeed, plastic surgery is a highly personal issue and each individual thinking about having it needs to take into consideration many factors before actually going through with any procedures. Factors such as money (surgery is far from cheap and most cosmetic procedures are not covered by insurance), pain (you need to have a higher pain threshold), and inconvenience (as you will be house bound and won't want to go out into public until you heal properly). You also need to have realisitic expectations. Plastic surgery won't transform an average looking person into supermodel material. Your goals need to be reasonable and attainable. You will need to speak with your doctor openly and honestly. Also, do research on your doctor. Ask to see before and after photographs of patients. Often, the doctor will set up a meeting between you and a former patient who has had a similar procedure. Make sure the surgeon has all the proper credentials and that he/she is a Board Certified member of the Plastic and Cosmetic Surgery Council. If you do your research and know what to expect and what not to expect, you will have a far more pleasant experience with cosmetic surgery.

I always said that for my 40th birthday, I was going to have my breasts done. I figured I'd have kids first (so I knew I wouldn't have any trouble with breast feeding), and then do something for myself on my next landmark birthday after that. I had even started putting away a bit of money when I had a little extra.

Now that I know I'm not going to be having kids though, and money isn't exactly a deciding factor anymore, I'm actually considering doing it for my 30th instead, along with some body sculpting. But it seems a lot more real now that it isn't so far away, and I still don't know if it's actually something I'd go through with. (The body sculpting I definitely would.)

Yes, I have considered it. When I was a baby, I fell off a porch face first and landed on my face, breaking the cartilage (sp?) in my nose. They told my father that it couldn't be fixed at the time because the bone was too soft. So now my nose has a bump and is a bit crooked and a little on the big side because of the way the tissue healed.

If I could afford plastic surgery, who knows? But as it is, I figure I look OK, if not drop dead gorgeous. And there are so many people who's faces are easily forgetable, at least mine has some character. ;) And I guess it's that outlook that let me get past it and still get hit on quite a bit. ;) lol It's all in the outlook and personality. :)

Lost in the 80's!!

When I had the surgery done, I had all of my female relatives and friends BEGGING to be in the bed next to me.....unfortunatly, the doc didn't have a great sense of humor when I asked if it were possible.....he just said no!!

I had a total of 5lbs taken off my chest, 21/2lbs each boob.

Darla, best of luck with planning your surgery. :) I've never had any body sculpting done, but I have friends and family members who have, and if you need any questions answered or would like any advice, just let me know!!!

2 1/2 POUNDS???!!! Gretchen, you're thinking about having more taken out??? Girl! You must have been having some severe back pain. Wish I could have been on the receiving end.

I have thought about having breast implants. Now that I have gained some weight (in the boobs too). I like the way my chest looks. When I loose the weight (in the boobs too), I'll probably be more receptive to the idea.
