I watched this show mostly in reruns in the late 80s and through the 90s. I had way too much to do at night during the show's heyday. I was just wondering which of Sam's ladies is the preferred. Diane Chambers or Rebecca Howell?

I liked Rebecca the best. Kirstey Alley's character added so much new and different to the show. I also think Kirstey Alley is the better actress of the two.

I voted for Diane, I liked how she was the total opposite to Sam, I found by the time Rebecca showed up she would get herself into situations that were unrealistic and I couldn't stand when she started that whiney little cry. That would almost be a good poll asking who was your favorite Cheer's character as there were so many great ones. :)

I voted for Rebecca (Kirstie Alley). I thought she was brilliant as that character and she was the perfect foil for Sam. I always found Shelley Long's Diane Chambers to be too annoying; I never liked her character at all!!!

I voted for Diane Chambers (Shelly Long). Diane was WAY more entertaining than Rebecca!! Diane waw always concocting some kooky situations. I recall a 'Thanksgiving' episode, I think in Carla's new home, where Diane dressed in Pilgrim attire and tries to make the dinner special, but everyone else ends up in one huge food fight, Dianes reactions were classic!! Also, I really liked more of Shelly Long's films throughout the 80's, "Hello Again" and "Outrageous Fortune". Don't get me wrong, Kirstie Alley is a fine actress, but like posted earlier, I couldn't stand her whining! But Rebecca was a looker!! :D

I voted for Diane. She did whine a lot, but she was funny.

I liked Rebecca......I don't know why. I think that it was the way that Sam was constantly trying to get at her without getting anywhere. When he went after Diane, she caved.

I love being able to watch Cheers on Nick at Nite. Cheers for peachy!!!

Shelley Long was cute back in the day (still sorta is now), so I chose Diane Chambers. Granted, Kristie (and therefore, Rebecca) had the bigger moneymakers, but it's the personality I like on Diane.

Sincerely,

Why was Kirstie Alley doing Christmas ads for Pier 1 if she's a Scientologist?

Kristie or Kirstie?

I just felt I couldn't vote since Carla's name was missing lol. She lasted longer than either of them.

I couldn't vote either. Lilith was always my favorite.

Couple things. Carla and Lillith never dated Sam, and never attempted to, that's why they aren't on the poll. Maybe one of you should start a new poll to pick favorite female character, and one for male regulars, as well! :) Cool!! I wish I'd thought of it!

I chose Rebecca, because she was smart without being a know-it-all, and vulnerable and strong at the same time. And the only thing Shelley Long was in that I liked was 'The Money Pit', and truth to tell, she's the reason I never watched that movie a third time.

I'll have to go with Rebecca, because she was so much better looking and far less irritating than Diane.

I voted for Rebecca. Diane was way too whiny and irritating and I never got what Sam saw in her.

Diane all the way! The differences between her and Sam made for some of the show's funniest moments.

My favorite scene with her was when she walked into the bar and no one said anything. Then Norm walked in and everyone yelled "Norm!" like they usually did. She got mad and demanded the same treatment. She said she was walking out the door and when she came back in she wanted the same treatment.

She walked out, walked back in, and everyone yelled "Norm!" The look on her face was priceless...

Diane all the way! she was the perfect straight woman for Carla's one-liners, and the perfet romantic opposite for Sam. Also, no Diane, no Frasier. ;)

Rebecca was ok, but she was too whinny, plus the show wasn't as much fun after Sam sold the bar. :(

I went with Diane. I thought, as with many shows, as it went on it got less and less funny. I also liked Coach better then Woody. Maybe that should be a poll too:)

I went with Diane. Her and Sam being such opposites was great. It made their scenes hilarious.

COOL BREEZE

Had to vote for Diane! While Kirstie was the bigger babe, brought lots of laughs and a slightly different foil for Sam and the others. Diane, as annoying as she was provided more fodder for Sam ,Carla and the others.
On other thoughts mentioned:while Coach was great Woody provided some of my favorite moments and biggest laughs. How bout his trouble with "Enrie' "?Remember "Vegi-Boy"? I think his marriage to "Kelly" was one of the all time classic moments in television!
Incidentally Trixter the Thanksgiving food fight you mentioned got out of hand(watch "Woody" almost slip and bust his butt !Not planed "Fraiser" catches him!) the food fight continued for another 20 minutes after the filming stopped and spread to the cameramen and crew! Practical jokes and pranks were constant on the set and were usually started by Woody or "Sam"
I never realized how hot Bebe Newirth ("Lilith")was until the cast came in unannounced on the "Arsenio Hall" show. They were all soaked from a water balloon /squirt gun fight. Bebe was wearing a tight, wet, short dress, braless! Whoa Baby!
A couple little known "Cheers" facts: David Hyde Pierce who plays "Fraiser"s brother "Niles" tried out for the part of "Fraiser" they loved him but they went with Kelsey Grammer . So when the same producers of "Fraiser" needed to cast someone as his brother who do you think they called?
Also John Ratzenberger"Cliff" originally wanted to try out for the part of "Norm" He was told that the part had already been cast.
John asked what about the "Bar know-it-all "part? They said what "Bar know-it-all" part. John said every bar has a know-it-all Someone who thinks they know something about everything! He went into a little adlib spiel in the "Cliff" character. They liked it so much they said they'd try him out on a temporary basis. The early shows he was not a regular character, only listed in the end credits. As his overwhelming poularity grew with the viewers
they eventually made him a star cast member!

I picked Diane over Kirstie. Diane may have been annoying at times, but she was alot funnier than Kirstie was. I think Diane fit in more with the characters of " Cheers " than Ms. Uppity Kirstie did. :)

I had to go with Dianne. It was funny how she was so prissy to Sam's ex-boozing carousing character. Plus she was and is still not hard to look at.
