Did anyone else listen to the Megamix albums of the 80's? I used to love the Max Mix and Italo Boot Mix series. They were great mixes of mainly summer hits.

There was also a pretty cool House Sound Of Chicago album with Steve "Silk" Hurley, Master Jefferson and others.

I loved the Italo Boot Mixes!

It´s been said that they were actually bootlegs until they were licensed by ZYX (so the title of the 12 inches could be seen not only in a geographical sense :D).

The Volumes 7, 8 and 9 made it into the German Charts, Vol. 7 peaked at #16 in 1986, Vol. 8 at #17 and Vol. 9 at #15 in 1987. Unfortunately, only Vol. 7 survived the GTR (Grand Theft Records).
At least, I own a 2CD set with Megamixes from the Italo Boot Series ('World of Italo Disco' / ZYX), another Megamix which is not that good (featured as CD 2 on 'Italo Disco Mix', released by Polystar, mixed by SWG Mix Productions) and the 2CD set 'Spirit Of Disco remixed by Ben Liebrand'.

I´m a bit divided about the Max Mix series...some of them were okay, some of them were plainly bad because of the chosen tracks, but they were never as good as the Italo Boot Mixes IMHO.

Another Megamix I can recall is the ON USound Depeche Mode Mega Mix Part I & II...I´m still doubting that these mixes were ever made by a member of the ON-USound collective. ;)

I always wondered about that myself. I did like the mixes, but I always thought of them as bootlegs. That's another thing that became very popular in the 80's. The bootleg remixes. Apart from a few Depeche Mode ones, there were some pretty cool Madonna remixes out back then.

I never liked Max Mix or Italo Boot. I think they ruined the songs with all the cutting and sampling.
