View Full Version : Nfl Playoffs!!!
THe playoffs are a week away, and there is only ONE spot not already determined. This has been a great year for football.
Looking at things right now, I believe the Rams have to be the odds on favortie, if they can control thier turnovers, they WILL be unstopable.
ALthough I can see the Bears defense taking them to the limit.
In the AFC, I think it is more of a tossup, the Raiders looked unstopable early, but have ended the season on a 3 game losing streak. The Steelers look good, but can Cordell Stewart carry the team through the playoffs? The Jets BARELY made it in, but thier season has been one where they win when they have to. Can they win out and get to the show? (*coughnotwithTestaverdecough*) It is looking to be a VERY interesting post season. So, my question is, Who is everybodies picks for the Super Bowl?
Mine is Rams Vs Patriots. (Tom Brady is this years Kurt Warner for a feel good story)
Caligula 1-07-02, 05:09 PM Yeah the Rams look unstoppable, and I do think it's their's to lose, but instead of taking the easy way out, I'm going to say the NFC will be the Buc's , They seem to be playing well just at the right time, In the AFC I would have taken the Raiders three weeks ago, but now I'm doubting them, I'll go with the Steelers.....So Caligula's picks are
Tampa Bay vs Pitts burgh in the SuperBowl;)
I guess the Steelers could go all the way..to the superbowl. No way they can beat the Rams. The Rams will win without doubt.
I concur with Flix....thought my heart says the Dolphins, it will be the Steelers and the Rams, with the Rams winning in a blowout. Remember gents, the bowl's in New Orleans, so the Rams never have to leave a dome. Not good for everyone else!
The Bucs will lose next week. They play in Philly, and they've NEVER won a game where the temperature was below 40 degrees. It'll be cooooooold in Philly next weekend.
The Jets' best bet is to get the Dolphins in the first round. They seem to have my boys' number. If they go to Oakland they're out. No way they're winning two weeks in a row at the Black Hole.
Green Bay will beat the Niners at Lambeau, and if Miami plays the Ravens they will win a close one.
nolanbuc 1-08-02, 01:33 AM Wild Card Weekend:
AFC
N.Y. Jets @ Oakland : Raiders will not let the Jets beat them at home twice...I think. (my pick: Raiders)
Baltimore @ Miami :
If it stays close, the Phins could be in trouble. (my pick: Dolphins)
NFC
Tampa Bay @ Eagles : Let's hope they let the starters play this time. T.B. will have to shake off the "cold-weather curse" or Dungee will be jobhunting. (my pick: Bucs...have to win with a name like that) :D
San Francisco @ Green Bay : If they thought losing at Dallas hurt, the 49ers will really be smarting on the Frozen Tundra. (my pick: Green Bay)
(interesting info: the Pack has neverlost a playoff game at Lambeau.)
I'll do the rest next week. :D
BTW, just so there will be no talk of a cop-out, I'm picking a Rams/Steelers Superbowl, with the Rams winning it all. (Although, it would not surprise me to see "da Bears" win the NFC, but getting beat by the Steelers in the Big Game.)
Go Raiders!! I just hope our end of season slump won't last too long....

Well it looks like I mistook Tampa Bay for a team that deserved to be in the playoff's. Phili took it to them, in every possible way.
Have to thank the Raiders tonight....see ya later Jets!!! :D
As a Dolfan, there's only two teams I root for...the Dolphins, and anyone who plays the Jets!
Hmmmm....now if the Phins beat the Ravens, they go to Pittsburgh. Doesn't get any easier, does it?
GO DOLPHINS!!!

Good! No more Jets! Now The Dolphins really have a chance!
nolanbuc 1-18-02, 03:24 AM I'm going to climb out on that limb again..
I was 2-2 last week, let's see if I can do better:
Divisional Playoffs
Eagles @ Bears
In a rematch of the "Fog Bowl" of 1988, Philly had better pray for fog. Da Bears' D shuts down McNabb and the A-train rolls into the station with 2 TD's (minimum) my pick: Bears 34 - 13
Raiders @ Patriots
The wrecking ball awaits the end of this last game in Foxboro, but which team will be the wrecking crew during the game? I dunno. But, I see a close game, with the Pats squeezing out a W for old times sake. my pick: Pats 17 - 14
Ravens @ Steelers
After hearing the disturbing reports that (brace yourselves) Coach Billick had his players "mark their territory" at Pro Player Stadium last week by taking a pregame whiz on the field , I find it hard to be objective here. If the Ravens dare to relieve themselves on Heinz Field, the Steelers should be mocked if they don't beat the piss out of them during the game. Ok, now I talk football; the Ravens were the first team to beat the Steelers at their new stadium, and the road team usually wins this matchup anyway, so home field advantage is down the pis...um, toilet. If Kordell has a big game after the Ravens D takes away the run, Pittsburgh will win. Otherwise, they can just flush their Superbowl hopes right now. If, IF the Steelers can stop the Ravens rushing game, Elvis will not be able to get it done with his arm.(hint to Steelers Defense: they may in fact run the ball, frequently!) my pick: Steelers 20 - 13 (I have heard the rumor that if the Steelers are winning big in the first quarter, the Ravens will take a dump at the 50 yard line during halftime)
Packers @ Rams
O, how I look forward to this game! Warner vs. Farve! Green vs Faulk! Key points: astroturf - the Rams will play indoors throughout the playoffs, so the "Greatest Show on Earth" will have a series of track meets. Turnovers: the Achilles heel of the Rams offense (they lead the league with 44). Limit them and they win. The run: Passing will be rampant, but the D's will need time off the field. Whoever runs best will probably win. Oh, and crowd noise may be a factor  Enough jibber-jabber, the pick: Rams 38 - 27
Comments? Go ahead, tell me I'm nuts, I dare you!:p :goofy:
I agree with you on the Rams/Packers and Patriots/Raiders and Ravens/Steelers games Buc.
As for the Eagles/Bears, I don't think it will b ethat easy. The Bears are a young team with no playoff experience, and the Eagles have been there before. Also, the bears haven't beaten anyone with a high powered offense yet. (example - Green Bay) They should win, but I don't think it will be the blowout you're predicting.
As for the Ravens/Steelers, you mentioned that the Ravens beat Pittsburgh at Heinz Field this year, but neglected to mention that it was because the Steelers' kicker missed four FGs that game!
I hadn't heard about the whizzing on the field. Typical for Billick though....arrogant. Like Shannon Sharpe during the last Dolphins' possession, pacing the sidelines pretending to look at a watch on his wrist, telling the DOlphins to hurry up because he had a plane to catch. Classless....
nolanbuc 1-18-02, 06:29 AM All good points, Pagan! Scores aside, I just hope my picks are correct! LOL :D
nolanbuc 1-26-02, 08:24 AM Steelers & Rams win this week. Anyone disagree?
I look forward to the Eagles-Rams game, should be a good one. Not that the other one won't :D
Caligula 1-26-02, 08:47 AM I think the Rams are by far the best team in the league, but I am more confident of the Steelers winning tomorrow than the Rams. I watched both the Rams losses and when they fall apart they fall apart. I'm hoping they make it to the superbowl cause they deserve it and are entertaining, but I have wouldn't be surprised to see Warner (with sore ribs), throw a couple costly turnovers, and have the Eagles squeak out a win.
BrandyBlue 1-26-02, 09:31 AM I think the ones who are cutest in the tight football pants should win!

Basically thats how I chose my players the last week of the X change football pool;)
BrandyBlue 1-26-02, 09:41 AM there we go! I knew I couldn't be the only one!
Well, even without Tom Brady, the Patriots pulled it out! I am 1/2 way there! Come on Rams!!!!!
BTW we had a bunch of Packer fans in the bar last week, and a bunch of Philly fans in teh bar this week. Talk about a WORLD of difference! The Packer fans were very polite, and good sports. The Philly fans were a bunch of (to borrow a term) ASSCLOWNS. Cocky, ignorant, crass, and basically a bunch of jerks. I hope the Rams win, just to shut the Eagle fans up. (not to mention that it would make a prophet!)
Man, what a surprise with the NE game, huh? WOW! Philly almost pulled it out too! Here's hoping that the Pats can give the Rams a run for the money!
LOSTNTHE80S 1-27-02, 08:45 PM BRANDYBLUE.......I agree with you.
JASPER......... I didn't realize you were in St. Louis (YAY RAMS!) I'm a little over an hour east of you in Illinois  I'm not much into football, but I still get excited when the guys are doing great! Makes for some good party morale! One place in town had 99cent bottles and 99cent Margaritas tonight! Another had all you could eat Pizza for $5.00....not too shabby.
Roemello 1-27-02, 10:40 PM Heh...this superbowl's gonna be another nice blowout  I may be from this area, but I have no hometown team spirt (father instilled that in me growing up  ). Aside from the Celtics of the 80's, they all suck :p
The Rams are gonna have a field day with this one :hammer:
LOST, I live just across the river in Illinois, in Belleville. I am not native to here, but working a block from the dome, you get caught up in the excitement. Where are you at? Around Mt Carmel?
LOSTNTHE80S 1-28-02, 06:51 AM Hi....I'm in Centralia, home of the winningist basketball team...the ORPHANS. Small world huh? :)
Centralia.... I know a couple of girls that are from Centralia...... sorta not the kind of girls you wanna admit to knowing... Yeah, it is a small world!
LOSTNTHE80S 1-28-02, 10:39 AM Since you are from the Belleville area, I bet you have heard of a fantastic band.......THE WELL HUNGARIANS.... they played my high school reunion this past fall and are so awesome! If you haven't heard them, run FAST to their next gig. You can check out their website to find out that info at:
PS......I am not affilated with this band in any way, ( don't want ya'll thinking that I am doing some free promo spots for them) they are just one fantastic cover band (the best I have ever heard) and just want to pass this info along to someone who is close enough to the area that they play so he might enjoy them. They give on H**** of a show!!!!!
Good picks, Jasper!
My Patriots!
I was born not all that far from Foxboro, and have been a Patriots fan since I knew what a football was... mostly 27 years of suffering, to be truthful. *G*
I still can't believe it... and with Bledsoe in for an injured Tom Brady! (I was not at all optimistic when I saw Drew come in... I was all ready for it to be one of Drew's "bad days" as we are so fond of calling them... but he pulled through so beautifully. The Steelers played a great game yesterday, too.
So Jasper, it's the Rams against the Pats! :D I have to be realistic and say the Rams will probably win, but you never know, this might be our year! I have vivid & painful memories of '86 and '97... maybe? maybe?? Anyway, it's great just to be there. Not that I will be. But I definitely will be throwing a party!
The Rams will score early and get a lot of momentum, and then allow the Patriots (I hate calling them the PATS, since my mom's name is Pat, and she never played football)to close in on them, before blowing it open late. My pick rams 38 Patriots 17.
Yes, LOST I have seen the Well Hungarians play at a club here in Bleeville. They were great! I would also recomend another local band, AUTOBUS, who are very good as well!
All I can say is that my picks are not there. I can't believe it:cry:
I was really wanting the Eagles and Steelers. But I guess you can't get everything you want. All I can say is that I am totally a defense girl. The team that shows the best defense is who I want to win. I guess if I had to pick it would be the Rams.
Johnny Z 1-28-02, 08:40 PM An 80s-related comment on Sunday's games: at the start of the Pats-Steelers game, did anyone realize that the singer for the national anthem (Donnie Iris) had a 1-hit wonder in the 80s? ("Ah! Leah!")
The funny thing is, I had only heard "Ah! Leah!" on the radio the weekend before, for the first time in who knows how many years. I had completely forgotten the song until I heard it, and I only recognized Donnie because I'd heard the song the week before.
As far as the game went, WOOHOO!!! I originally grew up in New England (NH) during the 80s, so I'm pretty much a transplanted Boston fan. It was just awesome all around, and no questionable replay calls to spoil it!
As far as the Superbowl... Well. To be perfectly honest, it's very hard not to pick against the Patriots. However, as has been shown for most of the season, you pick against the Patriots at your own risk. I saw the game they played against the Rams against Thanksgiving, and the Patriots were only one turnover away from beating the Rams.
Me, I think I'll defy the odds, cross my fingers and toes, and hope that the third time's the charm. :)
