So far my life (at the moment!)is being summed up by Bon Jovi's new song, "Just Older". Awesome lyrics...and made me feel a little better about being one of the "older" generation!

I was curious.....I know a few of you out there must be like me. Do you have certain songs that mark ocassions in your life? I have a whole list of these kinds of songs, that when I hear them, they take me back to something particular. For some of you this may only be that special song you and your significant other have, for others it may be more. I have songs for everything....Rush's Spirit of the Radio takes me back to the Texxas Jam in '88 and I see the crowd and get the feeling of being there all over again. Or Clapton's Wonderful Tonight takes me back to being with one of my ex's and reminds me of hanging out in this pub together in college.
Soooo, what are your songs and ocassions?

That Guy Next Door
1-21-02, 07:42 AM
er.... most Greenday's songs ( Foxxy already knew anyway, but if this gets out of the board I'll have to kill witnesses ) and " Born to be wild " from Steppenwolf , as well as " Lord of all plagues and sicknesses " from Morbid angel " ( was sick and weedy till' er...... I remember it all went at age 11 ! ) Probably lottsa Slayer and - gasp - Deicide - ( first death metal band with MA ) ! Well I'll probably'll update this to make it more accurate later on ! But it's another post i missed and had to answer ! excellent question BTW !

I love this topic! Like Violetfox....songs have always been a huge part of my life. When I hear a certain song.....it usually takes me back to a significent part of my life. This one is going to take a little while to put them altogether. I know there are many but I will need to narrow them down some.

Uh...if I would list all of the songs which had accompanied me through my life so far, Sal have to rent some additional server space. ;)
Grew up with the 70s music (by force...had to share a room with my step bro), so I got my (over)dose on Hard Rock as well as Pop and Disco, but like almost everyone here, I found my "musical identity" in the 80s - which doesn´t mean that I´m not open for something new. :)

Okay, I´m trying to make it short...

Oxygene III - Jean Michel Jarre
Vienna - Ultravox
Fade To Grey - Visage
M.E. - Gary Numan
Das Model - Kraftwerk
Berlin - Ideal
99 Luftballons - Nena
Hurra, Die Schule Brennt - Extrabreit

Not sure where to put this, so I just threw it in here :)

If you're life during the 80s were to be made into a flik, what songs would be on the soundtrack ?
Optional: And why ?

Mine would be:
"You gotta fight (for you right to party)" - Beastie boys (Rebeling against not being allowed to drink alcohol at the age of 14)

"Don't you want me" - Human League (Broken hearts a plenty aka typical teen-age syndrome)

"Hey You (the Rocksteady Crew)" - Rocksteady Crew (Yup I too had a short unsuccesfull encounter with the world of electric boogie)

"Land of confusion" - Genesis (I was a teen, everything was confusing :D )

"99 Luftballons" - Nena (German 101)

"Axel F" - Harold Faltemeyer (thinking that I looked cool on my BMX)

"Dressed for succes" - Roxette (Every single time I was invited to a party... I wish)

"Sommertidar" - Gyllene tider (Translation: Summertimes, need I say more)

"Me so horny" - 2 Live Crew (Turning 14 ;) )

"What a feeling" - Irene Cara (Ahhh to be young and in love :p )
