In my Top 5 albums of all-time, this highly underrated album is one of the best new wave, synth pop in the history of music. Taking the influence in artists like Gary Numan, Kraftwerk and many others, Propaganda gives us a magical, wonderful experience to enjoy over and over again, I love this album very much, "P-Machinery" used to be played on MTV. If you don't have this one, I urge you to buy it right now! a masterpiece if you're into new wave and electronic music.
tracklist:
1. Dream Within A Dream
2. The Murder Of Love
3. Jewel
4. Duel
5. Frozen Faces
6. P-Machinery
7. Sorry For Laughing
8. Dr. Mabuse
9. The Chase
10. Strength To Dream

Once again, I have to agree. Seems thatīs now the time that the synthpop-fans are finally coming out of their holes. ;)
About the influences...no wonder, as two of the Propaganda members were part of Die Krupps which had just dissolved for the first time.

I agree, this is a brilliant album. "Dr. Mabuse" also kicks ass! I played "P-Machinery" one night when I DJ'ed in NYC last summer, the place went nuts.

One of the best new wave/synth albums, without a doubt. I happened on Propaganda by pure luck. I'm so glad I did. p-Machinery is awesome. Duel is clever and well crafted. The rest of the album is great as well and the songs seem to flow in a logical progression. Great music and good engineering on this one.

I will agree, this album also makes into my top 10 of all time. Duel is such a great song.
Propaganda were a fantastic band, the 12 inch of Dr Mabuse is AWESOME!!!!!!!
Claudia Brucken (spelling?) did a one of single (which lives in my loft) called "When you're heart runs out of time" with Glenn Gregory of Heaven 17.
I have a remix album called "Wishful Thinking" which had a track listing of:
Abuse
Machined
Laughed!
Jewelled
Loved
I don't know how rare it is, i'm sure i,ve seen it re-issued on CD.

. . . and of course you don't need me to point out that Abuse was used as the opening credit sequence in that seminal 80's movie Some Kind Of Wonderful although it was left off the soundtrack album . . .
Not only was A Secret Wish a great synth-pop-verging-on-industrial-dance album, but the whole package - the album photography (John Stoddart if I remember correctly) and liner notes (Paul "better read than heard" Morley) are superb.
From the same stable as the Art Of Noise and Frankie Goes To Hollywood (ZTT Records) although most of the work seems to have been done by Steve Lipson whereas the others were more a product of Trevor Horn. One of the major drawbacks for us collectors was the fact that as they weren't very popular, extended versions and remixes were a sod to get hold of. The remixes of Machinery, Mabuse, Frozen Faces and Duel that are now available on the Outside World CD are excellent (although the best Duel remix - Bejewelled - is still only on white label 12"). Or - ahem - Limewire.
Good work.
