Okay. I'd like some ideas here. I know I can't have them all - and evidentally I'm not very lucky when it comes to the search engines.. Does anybody have some ideas to get this place moving a bit faster? Where can I advertise? We could definatly use some help... If you know of something that I should be doing, let me know.

What problems are you having with Search Engines Sal? I have my site listed on all the major ones, minor ones, and some I've never even heard of! One thing that I've learned from other webmasters is that the link exchange gig doesn't really work to well. The way I promote is by applying to all the Search Engines (this takes some time to do), Internet Directories, Signing Guestbooks, and my awards program. All this brings me around 3-400 hits a week. The lowest I've gotten is about 250.

If you need any specific help promoting, I'll help ya out http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

I appreciate your offer, Roemello. Thank you. Well, I have done alot of submitting and things aren't really working as well as I had hoped.. I think I have my metatags working properly. I don't know what else to do.. My linkexchange campaign is actually working very well. I've had about 130 clicks on my banner in the past couple of months. While that may not be all that impressive, it's better then my search engine luck!

I'm ready to advertise on TV or radio! hehe But I think that might cost more than I have in my piggy bank! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/redface.gif http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/tongue.gif

Search Engines are a tricky animal, that's for sure. It took me about 6 months before I really saw any action from the Searches. Your metas look fine, I don't think that's the problem. The way I applied to the searches is through this site: http://www.mmgco.com/top100.html and just applyed to almost all of them individually. That and directories like Lycos' If you add yourself to that one, you'll be automatically added to every other directory using the Open Directory Project thing.

Hey Sal,

You might try advertising your site in Metal edge magazine. They have places in there for pen-pals, advertisements, etc. I don't think it costs too much. I'll be glad to help out w/the cost. Anyway, it might take a month or two for it to get into the mag, but that would be a way for more people to find out about your page.

Advertising works for me! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/cool.gif Dunno, the way I got people to go to my club on Yahoo is by sending them invites, talking to them on the chatrooms, adding my site to links and joining other music clubs and talking to people there. Sal, the last e-mail I sent to the members of my club has this link included... I think you're in the club, so feel free to place an ad there too. Other than that, I'll make sure to spread the word in my club and other clubs... also, check out this Yahoo club that is also really cool http://clubs.yahoo.com/clubs/Roxx
http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif I think that should work... http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/wink.gif

Okay, lemme respond in order here..

Roemello. Thanks for the suggestions. I've recently tried the Open Directory thing. That sounds really cool! That 100 site you mentioned sounds good too. I will have to try there as well. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Gunner Girl. Metal Edge Magazine.. Sounds like a good idea. I will definatly look into it! That would be cool to get the website posted in there! Thanks! Oh, and don't worry about the cost. I don't want this to cost our members a penny. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Tydestra. Thanks alot for mentioning us in your newsletter! That's really great. I'm sure that will help out! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Blaziegrl, yeah.. That's stupid thing is still happening. It's only when you click the "Last reply by..." link.. It was never perfected, but when it is I will have it...

Okay, lemme go check some other stuff and reconfigure something as well. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hi guys! Sorry I wasn't on yesterday but mum was downloading something that was only to take 2 hours but took 4 instead, but we only have 3 hours a day limit so it will cost a bit more for that little problem then won't it! Anyway, if you want, Sal you can put up a little advertisement on my page since it's 80s related! Let me know OK! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/biggrin.gif

Hi, Sheibub. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif Well, alright.. If you'd like, you can add a link to here. That would help. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif It could be a text link or I do have some banners that I use to advertise this place.. If you click any of the links on the front page of 80sxchange you will see a link at the top of the new page that refers to banners. If you click on that link, you will see 3 of our banners. Maybe you will like one of those. http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

A few tricks I've used in generating traffic on my site (www.MySpareRoom.com) is
1. Going to individual fan-sites and posting in Guestbooks (like Kansas, Styx, etc)
2. Listing is as many bands as you can in www.UBL.com (http://www.UBL.com) and www.Bandhunt.com. (http://www.Bandhunt.com.) UBL only allows a URL to be listed once -but if you have tons of URL (maybe 1 per band) you can list them that way.
3. I also get TONS of traffic from free wallpaper galleries (each has my site on it -some more free advertising!) Then, of course, submitting each URL everywhere -AGAIN! Even UBL.com! Also -go into www.celebritydesktop.com (http://www.celebritydesktop.com) -they have a decent amount of traffic, too. I get probably close to 500 hits a day just from them!
4. Also, post in Yahoo Clubs!
Hope that helps!
After posting this message -I'm going to look for you banner to add to my site!
Thanks & keep up the good work!

Sal what about inviting some webhead magazines to come and visit the site - maybe they will feature it in one of their magazines or just but it in their hot links page. I know my husband visits every single site mentioned in his magazines and he gets alot lol http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Hey, Zel. That's a great idea.. Could you mention a few for me? I will definatly go and think of something to email them with... That would be really, really cool.. In fact, if there is any magazine that may be geared towards people who grew up in the 80s, I will buy advertising space.. I really want this place to rock! http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smile.gif

Well PC-Gaming and Maximum PC occassionally feature certain sites of interest beyond games and hardware and I know a few of the writers have made 80s references so we may have a whole new fan base.
Also try Web Guide http://www.web-guide-mag.com/
I know there is more out there but for now thats all I could think of http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/wink.gif
