Right folks, as promised last month here's the top 80's tunes that are a spinning around in my head for January '09 :spin:
If it's a bit of late 80's house/dance you're after, then try the masterpiece that is 'Mantra For A State Of Mind' by S'Express from 1989 (WARNING - BABES ALERT!!):
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/XjM_jTKGHGQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/XjM_jTKGHGQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Or maybe some classic Italo-disco cheese? Here's the legendary Italian duo Scotch from 1986 with 'Mirage':
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/-fCMtuOqUII&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/-fCMtuOqUII&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Remember the days when music used to bring both black and white together? Here's the King's of SKA The Specials and a top of the pops performance of 'Do Nothing' from 1981:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/3VsTjErq2oA&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/3VsTjErq2oA&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Sick of the weather? Well here's a dose of Madness lunacy from 1983 to cheer you up - 'The Sun And The Rain':
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/HPhQZWQmTPc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/HPhQZWQmTPc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
...and speaking of lunatics:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/wzNjmIWbns4&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/wzNjmIWbns4&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Back to a slightly more sane group, Fleetwood Mac. For me, this is Buckinghams finest hour. One of the best male vocals in the business, this is the classic 'Big Love' from 1987's 'Tango In The Night':
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/q1mkdEuiPQc&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/q1mkdEuiPQc&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Next up, Paul Simon's 'The Boy In The Bubble' from 1986. It's just a timeless masterpiece, and my favourite track from this genius enigma of a man:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/xITFmpoeMxQ&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/xITFmpoeMxQ&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
Feel like a little late night schmoozing? Here's the king of schmooz, Mr Glenn Frey with 'The Allnighter'. Glenn Frey represents for me all that's brilliant about America, the super-coolness, the image of classic rock 'n roll:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/gNA-nE6lVxw&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/gNA-nE6lVxw&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
We finish up January's picks with the Simple Minds. Some tracks just get better and better with age, and this next track is a perfect example for me. 'Big Sleep' was never released as a single from the brilliant 'New Gold Dream 81-82-83-84' album, but I think it sums up perfectly what the Simple Minds were all about:
<object width="425" height="344"><param name="movie" value="http://www.youtube.com/v/EVkGn6VDIrg&hl=en&fs=1"></param><param name="allowFullScreen" value="true"></param><param name="allowscriptaccess" value="always"></param><embed src="http://www.youtube.com/v/EVkGn6VDIrg&hl=en&fs=1" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" allowscriptaccess="always" allowfullscreen="true" width="425" height="344"></embed></object>
