We keep things packed and ready during hurricane season, looks like we'll have to put the plan into action this go-round!! :irked:
This GFDL model (http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200809_v5d.html?extraprod=v5d#a_topad)has had it headed straight for us as a Cat 4 the whole time. (We're right at the tip of the bay just W of the TX border) Now the other models (http://www.wunderground.com/tropical/tracking/at200809_model.html#a_topad)are shifting in closer or narrowing down to our area too!!! (GFDL is the blue line!!)
All area FB games are cancelled as well as most other HS events & most school districts are set for early-out today or closing tomorrow!! Evacuations in low lying areas have begun in ours & surrounding counties so we're packing up and getting ready to head out to beat the rush!! :irked:
I have a friend in east TX who cancelled reservations in Dallas yesterday before things shifted & now they can't find anything in TX, LA or even as far as MS!!! Everything's already filled w/ all the S TX evacuees!!!
Ours are in Georgetown, so we should be just W of the eye as it curves around!! :thumb:
We're getting an early jump since I have to travel w/ a house full of kids and my special needs brother. Hoping to avoid the mass exodus!!
Stephen is stuck at the refinery for now & may get locked in, so please keep him & others who can't leave in your thoughts & prayers.
Others in the path, stay dry & safe!! See you all soon!! ;)

It's official!! All models are pointing to home & Houston is now being referred to as "ground zero"! All roads IN are closed & all roads lead FROM Rome (or Chambers/Harris County in this case!!) We're safe & sound in Georgetown, but Stephen IS locked in at the plant!! Safest place to be actually, in explosion proof buildings!! But please keep him in your prayers ... we're in line to catch the east eye wall!!
We've got it made here!! The hotel is in the middle of just about everything. Great restaurants, shopping center, outlet mall, water park, SUPER HEB, Walgreens ... all only a few blocks to a mile or two away!! Kids say it feels like a vacation!! Still hoping WOW can leave town. Work didn't let her leave until 5, so we're having her wait 'till morning to come meet us. Hopefully the mass exodus will be over by then!!
Well, we're about to head to the pool!! No way I'm staying cooped up w/ this bunch!! :dgrin:

That's the same way it was here in Memphis for Gustav. My sons were coming home from their grandparents an hour away that Sunday and had to take the backroads because I-55 northbound was packed.

I still remember the evacuees here from Katrina, those poor folks were so glad just to have somewhere to be.

We're finding all kinds of wonderful things to do out here!! Going to Gabriel Park this morning to let the kids run off some of this cabin fever!! Then to the Capitol after lunch & some TX history!! Not like my kids don't know theirs, but you can never learn too much about TX!!!! :thumb:
I think tomorrow, we'll try Inner Space Caverns before the heavy rains hit, if they'll even get out this far.
Then, there's some kind of fun park just outside of Austin, so we'll hit that after church on Sunday.
Also heard of a swim beach on Lake Georgetown, so if the weather doesn't get too bad, we'll give that a shot too!!
Found other stuff to do too if we can't get home right away!!

PM me, maybe we can meet for lunch or something ... introduce our band nerds & let them exchange band camp stories!!!

Ok, yall stay safe. It's not just coastal stuff to worry about... it's that nasty feeder-band weather...high winds, tornadoes... and such! So yall BE CAREFUL! :ghug:

Check in when you can. You're all in my thoughts! :vibes:

Checking in ...
Just heard from Stephen at the plant ... finally!! Power's out & tranformers blew. He said there's serious electrical damage to be repaired before they go back online. They were about to venture out to access the damage.
Word from home is that power is out, lines and trees are down everywhere, windows were blown & nothing metal held up. "Our little town doesn't look well at all" is what one friend said. Just heard word on our place and just a bathroom window out and shingles blown off the roof!! We'll have to check for leaks when we get home. Nothing major!! Praise God!!
Some reports say we can't go home for 3 days, others say a week so I'm plotting back ways home to get back asap!!
Thanks to all for the love and concern.

Glad to hear everyone's o.k. TX and that your home is not badly damaged. I pray that you can go back home soon and get back to a life of normalcy. Txgirl, how did you make out in your town?

I was allowed to go home for a while today. Put plastic over the window. Thankfully it was the small bathroom window upstairs. I'm going to have to have a new roof put on the house. There are too many shingles missing for just a patch job.

Got lucky about the water. Just a couple of small wet spots on the sheetrock. I'll check for wet insulation when I finally get off work. Looks like I may be out here at the plant till thursday.

I'm trying to find a hotel in town that has power so Jill and the gang can at least get closer to home.

Thanks for all the concern from everyone. It's nice to know people care.

Georgetown? Then you are not too far from me (maybe 20 miles). We just had some winds here in Taylor that gusted up to about 30 or 40 miles an hour at times and maybe 30 minutes of a shower and that was it.

Well ... CAN'T go home yet!! :irked: No power expected for 3-4 weeks or more in some areas. Schools closed indefinitely. NO ONE allowed through Harris County & that's our only way home! Wouldn't matter 'cuz our county is shut down too!!
Trying to find a generator to haul home with me, but none to be found!!

I just want to go HOME!!! :(
