I've been thinking of doing a thread on this guy since i saw "Mama's Boy". I am really impressed with his style of acting. To me he is the geek of today, just like Anthony Michael Hall was for the 80's brat pack movies. There is a significant difference between the two. The 80's geek was an immature kid in looks, character and style. Jon Heder is an 80's retro wannnabe, who is actually quite brainy, but speaks in a droll, self absorbed dialect. The great thing is that his movies reflect the 80's down to clothing, the accompanying music (soundtracks) and the fact that he plays the very individual, alternative, grown up retro kid. Some of Jon Heders movies are the excellent Mama's Boy, Moving McCallister, and Napoleon Dynamite. I welcome your views and comments:thumb:
I can see a comparison to our days AMH.
If you notice there have been a lot of geeky type characters in movies lately. The geek factor is big in Hollywood now. I am sure they will ruin it into the ground.
Back in the 80's we had our geeks but there was also a balance of the jocks and other personalities.

I agree, it is almost cool to be the geek/ nerd/ weirdo now. I believe that Shia LeBouf started it off with his character in Transformers. Then there's the guys in Superbad. I think one of them was in Juno too. Maybe we should look at them under the title " The guy least likely to"? There is an irony with that type of character. That is, e.g. Jon that he is so different to everyone else that you feel you have to respect him. It is so funny to me now, that whole Jock and nerd culture way of thinking.

Even though he's a hot actor, right now, Napoleon Dynamite is the only movie of his that I've seen. Napoleon Dynamite has moved up to be one of my top favorite movies of all time. I absolutely HATED it, the first time I saw it. It was constantly cringing for the guy because he was so horribly geeky... and for the brother, Kip, too.
HOWEVER... the more I see it... the more I love it & pick up more things that I hadn't noticed before. (Did anyone catch the Kip/LaFawndah WEDDING after the credits?? )
Jon Heder is BRILLIANT. If you can get your hands on it... check out the re-release Napoleon Dynamite with a 2nd dvd of nothing but extras and behind the scenes footage (Front cover says "VOTE FOR PEDRO" on it). Blockbuster online has it. HILARIOUS!! :rollin:
...I have to work my way up to watching more geek-based movies... I feel too sorry for them!

Yes i agree, Napoleon is a pretty cringeworthy movie. I wouldn't mind checking out that 2 disc edition. The main reason i like Jon Heder's movies is because of the huge retro feel they seem to have. You could easily think that these movies were made in the 80's. A bonus is the retro soundtracks, that go with the movies. There are definately enough homages to movies of the 80's in his films.
