View Full Version : Need an opinion, gang.
Recently saw the new "Bullitt" grill for new Mustangs. Thanx to the magic of photoshop, I can see what it'd look like on my ride. I'm REALLY torn as to whether I want it or not.
Whattaya think...keep it stock or get the Bullitt?

nolanbuc 2-24-08, 08:31 AM First one, IMO.
I agree with Nolan. It just wouldn't look right without the Pony on the grill man! That's part of what makes a stang a stang!
Iluvthe80s 2-24-08, 09:00 AM I like the first pic better.
Caligula 2-24-08, 09:20 AM I like the original
BrandyBlue 2-24-08, 09:30 AM Definitely the original.
Another vote for the original. But it will look good either way!
It's a Pony, keep it that way!
chooch210 2-24-08, 12:00 PM Original Way
Brand1974 2-24-08, 12:03 PM First one
I didn't see the 2 pics but ya gotta keep the Pony on the grill Bro... Don't mess wit da STANG. ;)
Another..first one vote;)
Not a PC thug 2-24-08, 03:19 PM Top picture looks better.
80's fanatic 2-24-08, 03:51 PM Sorry Alan, but I like the first one also :D It's the trademark of the stang, be a shame to mess with it, ya know?
Pretty unanimous, huh?
BrandyBlue 2-24-08, 07:04 PM Pagan, did they issue your Mustang with the embossed pony on the seats?
BrandyBlue 2-24-08, 07:05 PM Pretty unanimous, huh?
Yeah, it's unimoonus, we like horsies!
Slayergrrl 2-24-08, 09:32 PM Keep the Pony!
Pagan, take away the running pony and it would look all WRONG man! That pony was there at the beginning, it is the symbol of what a true Stang is!
Another vote for the horse. The other one just looks plain and boring to me. Looks like if you pried the pony off the original, you'd have almost the same thing. But I could be missing something.
Yeah... I just saw the pic with the new grill..... definitely keep the original Bro.
Tempest Frost 2-25-08, 11:23 AM Not as though you need another vote on this one but, keep er' stock, Allan. The Mustang without the trademark pony is like Britney with sanity intact, something just not right about it.:mwaha:
Yea...I think I will.
I'll just use that money on underdrive pulleys.
Prefab Sprouter 2-26-08, 06:57 AM Am I the only one who likes the other grille??? LOL!!! Dont swim with the tide Bro, go your own way!!! Why be like every other 'stang? Make it your own.

I've seen Mustangs with both types of grills out here, and granted, the Grill doesn't have any effect on the vehicle's performance, However, I think a mustang without the pony is just wrong, and not in the spirit of the Mustang.
You are right Prefab, It is Pagan's choice, after all, it is his car. He asked us for our opinion and we gave it. The rest is up to him.
Pagan, bottom line is what makes YOU happy? You prefer one grill over the other, then by all means, go that route! If you do decide to get underdrive pulleys instead, be careful to not have more than 15-20% underdrive. Too much underdrive of the alternator, power steering, and/or air conditioning units are not spinning as fast. These lead to dips in alternator voltage, power assist, and air conditioning effectiveness may be noticeable, especially at idle.

Alrighty, then! What exactly IS an underdrive pulley?

Ah bro...in some ways you're correct. But not ALL Stangs had the pony. The grill I'm looking at is a replica of tyhe one on Steve McQueen's Stang in "Bullitt", hence the name.
If you go through the Mustang history, alot of them came without the pony. Actually, it's not even the pony I'm thinking about, it's the fog lights. :p

They're specially made for the new Stang bro...no need to worry. I wouldn't worry anyway...especially about the air conditioning. I don't use it. My AC in that car is the window down and my right foot to the floor. ;)
To answer Brandy...underdrive pulleys slow down any of the car's engine parts connected to the drive belt. In doing that, there's less parasitic drag on the engine itself. Therefore, more horsepower and gas mileage. :D
Thanx again everyone for the input.

Hey I'm the "Redneck Camaro Driver" Remember?? Actually, Not Ponycar related at all, but I'm seriously thinking of putting foglights on our Mercury.
Keep the original....nice ride btw :thumb:

I already have brotha man! Just waiting for the warm weather so I can do some more!
Already have the honeycomb taillights and the Roush performance pedals in the boxes waiting to be installed, and if you look at the pix on my MySpace of him, I've added so much shit it's ridiculous.
The car looks great just the way it is. I wouldn't change it. ;)
Sal Collaziano 2-27-08, 12:54 PM I only read the first post, so I don't know who I'm offending, but I like the first picture a LOT better than the second.. Just my opinion...
wavemaster 2-28-08, 10:28 AM I know I'm probably placing my butt in hot (engine) oil for this, but I would say stick to the original grille but replace the original ornament with a smaller one if available...somehow the pony just looks too big to me.
Or make it at least gold plated, get some ridiculosly big 22" chrome rims, lay the body on the belly, change your music style and start to wear thick gold chains 'round your neck. ;)
Thanx everyone for the comments...I'm wondering if the Pony can be put on the Bullitt grill. That might look nice.
Hmmmm....I may be on to something here.... :D

That would definitely help - but I still like the stock look... But with the emblem, it's pretty nice..
I'd still stick with the original. Just don't like the bullitt, it's too plain and boring. But who the hell am I?
Christine 3-02-08, 12:00 PM I like the first one the best.
Tempest Frost 3-02-08, 07:40 PM In my line of work you come to understand a fundament truth, whether you like it or not.:irked: If you’re writing a story and something just doesn’t play no matter how many times you rewrite it, chances are you’re trying too hard to make it work and going in the wrong direction. I said it before; I’ll say it again… Keep er’ stock, bro. I think she’s beautiful just the way she is. If you’re forced to try new ways of making the change work, chances are it never will and you won’t be happy with the change once all that hard work is done. Just my opinion, Allan.:)
In this instance I probably will leave her stock....but that's about the ONLY thing I'm leaving stock.
Ponies are made to modify. ;)
