That is the question :D

Although it looks very pretty I don't do it for three reasons.

1) we have an artifical tree and its a pain in the but to take it off every year.
2) my cat might eat it and a vet bill for Christmas is not fun
3) once it goes in the garbage it can hurt other animals.

Thats my story and I'm sticking to it :)

Since it's just me here, I don't put up a tree. What I have is a table that I set up with a small ceramic tree in the middle and little Christmasy decor all around it. I think it actually ends up looking better than an actual tree myself :p Presents for the nieces and nephews just go right under the table :) They like it anyway, so it's all good.

When I do end up having kids and get back into the setting up an actual tree thing, I'd probably tinsel it...I always had fun doing that when I was a kid with my sister :)

Tinsel, is that that shiny silver stuff that gets all over the floor? If so, I hate that stuff :D I think a tree is much prettier with white lights and nice ornaments... that shiny silver stuff doesn't make a nice tree in my opinion...and it's a pain to clean up (esp. when you have pets!!) then again, I'm a nature person.. and my favorite color is green (hence .. not too much to cover up the tree). Plus I like things simple.

1. I have no room for a tree
2. Like Zel I have pets, my 2 pups chew up everything!

I do miss having one though :(

I voted for No tinsel. To me, it just looks tacky on the tree, and it is a bitch to clean up after the holidays!!!

No tinsel. When I was younger, my family used tinsel. It got over everything. My wife & I now don't use it. Less hassel ;)

1. I don´t like Christmas in general
2. we also have pets, so it´s no clever idea (guess Christmas was the time when the quote 'Curiousity killed the cat' was invented ;)), nontheless, my girlfriend had put up a few decorated twigs in a safe place here
3. the room is too small
4. we simply can´t afford it, especially this year

That is what my family always called it. I'm not too crazy about the kind that is in little individual strands. The thick rope kind can be real pretty.

We use it sparsely, just enough to give it a shine. Our tree kicks ass this year! We have all our Disney ornaments on it, with three strands of lights (one multi, one white, one half red-half green on each bulb) and instead of a train running around the tree skirt, we have an actual working monorail like at Disneyworld! It even has the exact conducter's voice chip in it! I'm starting to get psyched...98 more days until we go again!!!

I probably won't put up decorations this year. Most of my Christmas stuff is sitting in storage at the moment.

I love thick brocade ribbon on a tree with bows and glass ornaments. I started doing this a few years ago. My daughter usually attacks the tree with her ideas on where the ornaments should be (all at the bottom near her height LOL) so the glass is all put away for a few years :D

I voted 'no tinsel'. Why? I hate spending three hours trying to get the crap off all my branches!! Besides, my sister always used too much and made our tree look awful, so I guess I've kind of been against tinsel for a long time! LOL! But I won't complain if you use it on your own tree. :D

I can't imagine a tree without tinsel. lol Guess I'm one of the few. :) Love the way it makes my tree look. I'll putting up my tree with tinsel next Saturday. :) lol Will look really good too.

We don't do tinsel. A couple years ago we got started putting up strands of red and gold beads along with the ornaments.

When I was growing up we always had tinsel (in the long boa-type fluffy silver ropes) and icicles (the individual strands of silver whatever it is). So much static electricity built up in the tree that I got shocked from every single strand of icicles that I had to take down so I loathe those things now.

Tinsel is "garling"? Or we say gahlin LOL, we use it every year but my cat eats a little of it somtimes and my dads too cheap to buy more so, we have less and less every year. LOL :D

That is what I was thinking about earlier Garland. That is what I was explaining that I like to see on a tree. Not the icicles.

I don't put up a tree.....we live in an apartment, and if I want to put up a tree, I'd want it to be real.

I used to use the red and gold beads, but we bought a bigger tree two years ago. I couldn't find the right size beads to add to what I had, so I broke down and bought garland. I still prefer the beads, but until I find the larger size ones (about 1/2 inch, if anyone has any in their attic :D) I will be using the fluffy stuff. Unless I break down and buy all new beads one year.

We always used tinsel when I was little. I haven't used it in years though.

No Tinsel. It really freaks me out when I see my cat walking around with strands of silver hanging from his butt. :eek:

LMAO @ Shakey! Exactly! I have nightmares of this awful stuff getting twisted in their intestines and like MM I'm going to do everything possible to keep my kitty healthy :)

No Tinsel (icicles)! I think it looks cheap.. and I agree.. it is a bitch to clean up! I always use garland (gahlan as Ted would say it! LOL), our garland this year is silver with gold trim, it is very rope like but still a little fluffy looking.. all my lights are white, and I decorated with shiny silver, gold, and burgundy color balls, plus silver and gold foil bows and velvet burgundy bows. And a big velvet bow at the top that is burgundy with gold trim around it.. it looks very classy this year!

I also have a huge pine tree in my side yard that I decorated with colorful lights.. my ladder wasn't tall enough to let me reach the very top, so I had to try to throw the lights up there! It's a big tree! It came out looking very pretty though.. all the neighbors slow down to look at it when they pass by ;)

Tinsel is not cheap and trashy looking, it actually compliments the Elvis pictures on velvet in my trailer and takes attention away from the old broken down cars in my yard, now if you don't mind I'm going to have a few drinks of thunderbird :D

The kids love putting on th tinsel it keeps them busy for about 10 minutes. It is their Christmas and their tree. They have fun throwing them on... if it gets on the floor big deal. I think it is fun watching them.

When i was younger my grandmother made up put them up one by one. SHe hated them being thrown on. I guess that is why I allow my kids to go crazy with it.

We put a little tinsel on the tree to make it sparkle. I love it. :)

I like tinsel, when I was little me and my brother used to go overboard with it though there was tinsel everywhere and you couldn't see the tree, my parents used to get really mad at us and made us remove most of it, but it sure was fun. I don't really use it anymore just because.Thanks for the memories Zel. :)

No tinsel for the following very popular reason: my cat would eat it! Already, I have to take the ribbons and bows off all our gifts before they go under the tree... Dexter has this thing for swallowing curling ribbon, and then guess who gets to take it away... yup, me! heh.

I voted 'no tinsel' because, I have puppies that would choke on it if they got into the tree.

My tree this year is red bows and gold ball ornaments. It's really pretty, though I think I will add some red ribbon also.

Milani my Grandmother was totally anal about her tree too. I let my kids do the tree they way they want now. I fix a few things...but LOL
