GOod lord, the kid was a tool. He made a scene at the place (which the video doesnt show) to be allowed to ask ONE question. Then he rambles on about clinton's blowjob, voter fraud, and several other things.

Had he simply walked away, he would have been JUST FINE. But, he wanted to flail around and act like an asshat, so he got cuffed. Then, when he wouldnt cooperate, and after repeated warnings, he got tased. I dont feel a bit sorry for him. As a matter of fact......

Seems that Andrew Meyer is known around campus as someone who will do outrageous things to garner attention. For example, when the last in the series of Harry Potter books, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, was released in July, Meyer made a poster with “Harry Potter Dies” written on it. He stood at the corner of a busy intersection in Gainesville with his sign and a copy of the book, taunting drivers by giving away the surprise ending. From the video shown few motorists found such a disclosure funny, and even the driver of a passing sheriff’s car yelled “shame” to this attention grabber.

Not to mention:
Police have released the incident report detailing the Tasering of a University of Florida student during a campus forum with Sen. John Kerry Monday, and the officer who actually Tasered Andrew Meyer wrote in the report that Meyer later told police, "You didn't do anything wrong."

In the 12-page report, which gives accounts of the incident from the perspective of eight different officers who were present Monday afternoon, Officer Nicole Mallo writes that Meyer would only resist officers when cameras were present.

"As (Meyer) was escorted down stairs (at the University Auditorium) with no cameras in sight, he remained quiet, but once the cameras made their way down stairs he started screaming and yelling again," Mallo wrote.

Mallo was one of two officers who actually rode in the vehicle as Meyer was escorted to the Alachua County jail, and she said said he told them during the ride: "I am not mad at you guys, you didn't do anything wrong, you were just trying to do your job," according to Mallo's account.

Mallo also wrote in her report that he asked, at one point, if cameras would be present at the jail.

The report details the events leading up to Meyer's arrest, saying that Meyer was in line to ask a question of Sen. Kerry when it was decided that no more questions would be allowed.

Meyer continued down the aisle toward Sen. Kerry angrily, according to police, saying he wanted the senator to answer his question because he had been waiting for two hours.

Though Sen. Kerry directed that Meyer be allowed to ask his question, police reported that Meyer did not ask any specific question and instead "badgered" the senator, and at one point said something about President Clinton being impeached over a sexual act.

At that point, police reported that ACCENT Director Max Tyroler turned off Meyer's microphone and asked police to escort him out of the auditorium, saying, "He had said enough," according to Officer Mallo's report.

Officers then proceeded to attempt to remove Meyer from the room, but when he resisted, they placed him on the ground and tried to handcuff him. The six officers who actually took part in holding Meyer down while he was being handcuffed reported that they were only able to get a handcuff on his right hand because he was squirming so much.

The bottom line is: FREE SPEECH IS BEING COMPROMISED!!

The bottom line is: FREE SPEECH IS BEING COMPROMISED!!Nobody said he couldn't SAY what he wanted. What he was being escorted out for initially was because each student was to ask ONE question. And, after rambling on about a book, the election, clinton getting head in the oval office and finally asking if kerry was in the skull and bones club, the people running the presentation asked the campus police to take the mic from the guy and escort him out.

THEN, he became irate, started pushing cops, started, yelling, started flailing around, tried to run, etc. THAT'S why he got tased, not because he asked a question.

I don't believe anybody has the "right" to say absolutely whatever they want, and not expect at least some form of control by the people running the event. The kid wanted to get attention, and he did.

THIS shows how tasers are used to subdue people who wont comply. See how effective it is.

No. It's not. There are rules to be followed and he broke them. He could have staged a rally or assembly outside of the event. He got tased because:

1 -He broke the rules (repeatedly).

2 -He was belligerent & aggressive when the campus police attempted to remove him.

3 -Campus police acted appropriately because in THIS day and age, you never know what crazy ass people are going to do.

...what if Mr. Meyer ended up having a gun? Would people have expected the police to restrain him and/or tase him before he started shooting? They would have been the ones everyone would point a finger at if something tragic had happened.

Kudos to the UF campus police. That kid ASKED for it. He's got his 15+ minutes of fame... now why doesn't he just go away. :6ohboy:

You just don't get it. He had his chance and wouldn't shut up and let other people speak. 20 years he wouldn't be doing this because he couldn't his name all over the internet for being an ass.

Free speech is not being compromised .. he had his chance to ask his question like he asked to, but he blew it. He acted like an ass, made a show for the camera, and expects to be safe from any charges by hiding behind "free speech."

Honestly, he's abusing his right of free speech by acting like a little tool .. other people who fight to say something actually meaningful have gone through worse.

I don't think it was as much about free speech as it was about getting attention. You can say what you want to say without acting like an ass. He acted like an ass, and that's what he got.
And Kim, you're right. They didn't know if he had a gun on him or not. A lot of people could have gotten killed if he had been carying one.

Dude...he wasn't tasered for what he SAID, he was tasered for fighting with the police. That's the bottom line, if you fight the police out in the street you get tasered, why should it be any different on a college campus?

Besides, the kid did it on PURPOSE. He made sure cameras were rolling when he did what he did. Look at his website, he has a long history of acting like a dick. Personally, I wish they used a nightstick instead.

The kid's an asshole.
