View Full Version : What did we drink?
I was thinking back to the 80s and what were the old "dizzy nectar's" of choice. For me it was what ever was cheapest, the older dude bought for ya, or (in the most dire of circumstances) what would fit under your coat and not show! :D
Mad Dog
Boone's Strawberry Hill
The Original Wine Cooler (not the 800 flavors stuff)
SoCo
Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill
Little Kings (if we were lucky enough to be at a party with someone old enough to go to the liquor store)
Malt Duck (Yuck!) I can't believe I drank that stuff.

Ugh! I forgot about that wicked syrup!
*Gman doubles-over to the floor screaming at himself, "Please for the love of God will you ever learn?!"
'the beast' (or the cheap stuff, Milwaukee's Best)
and my roommate and I liked King Cobra at one point. a little bit (ultra cheap) went a looong way. lol
Ah yes, the large volume discount theory of happy-hoppy beers! ;)
Let's see....we liked the whiskey even then. Jack and coke, Mac and coke, Southern Comfort with Seven-Up or coke....usually it was RC because we spent all our 'pool' money on the hard stuff. LOL
Mad Dog 20/20...that was some serious grape juice. Bud, Busch, whatever....LOL Teenagers are pretty easy to please. LOL
Fuzzy Navels. Peppermint Schnapps. Black Velvet once. Gin once - that stuff is toxic! ICK!! LOL God, we were lushes. The 'good old days', huh? ;) LOL
wavemaster 11-28-01, 03:48 AM Thanks for bring up that again...thought it was lost in the hazes of a thousand hangovers...*LOL*
I can still remember the first experience with beer...my friend sneaked a few bottles of a strong brew called 'Einbecker Mai-Bock' from his older bro. Two bottles each, and the day was done for us. Next day, we went to the store for another bottles of this stuff, but they had just another brand of this stuff available. After the first bottle, one of us said "tastes good...but it doesn´t bang into the head like that beer yesterday". Two beers later, we were in the same condition like the day before...all for scientfic reasons of course. ;)
With more 'experience', it was either beer like Warsteiner or Gilde Ratskeller (no Beck´s!), the harder stuff was Martini w/ lemon juice, Bacardi w/ Coke or Blue Curacao w/ orange juice.
Yep, we had some 'fun', from ;) to :p till http://www.plauder-smilies.de/repuke.gif ...
NB: gave up drinking alc regulary after I had become serious problems with and without it...
Thems musta have been some stout ol' beers! Us yanks don't know how to brew it like that! LOL
Pretty much anything I could get my hands on. Mad Dog, Old Mill, Natural Light. Whatever as long as it got me there.
Caligula 11-28-01, 07:42 AM haha When we wre broke, we could always turn to Golden Glow, apple wine that cost 10 dollars a gallon. The problem was it was hard to find people who were old enough to buy liquor that would actually go in and buy it, it was sort of embarrasing for them. We would also settle on Hermits,Club, or Fine Old Wine, they were all port sherry's the bums would drink and a bottle of that would put you on your ass. It also had the ability to make you do some really stupid things
I rarely drink now. :) When I do, It's in moderation and usually a Zima w/lime slice. ;) YES!! I like Zima's.
Back then, it was like this... Drink about 3 beers than do a double shot of Yukon Jack! Then fall on my ass!
I don't miss them days! :o
That Guy Next Door 11-28-01, 09:37 AM Well, I was raised to be very picky about food quality ( I can eat darn near anything if it's the best of the kind , I'm french, and I'll keep remindin' ya over and over )). so I started tastin' like some fine wine, then rhum, then wiskey, good brand stuffs. Not long after that, I started gon' to concert, and metalheads ould drink to six pack of cheap beer and some a half bottle of cheap wiskey ( in addition to the beer ) Some were wasted fer most of the concert, a fourth was fine, and the rest would do " puke contest ". Well I was among the youngest at a solid 16. Alcool is the curse of the metalhead ! Some smell like they been soaked in oil !
Iluvthe80s 11-28-01, 09:48 AM I never really drank any liquors until I was about 19 or 20. Seriously! It was just a lot of Dr. Pepper back then. :D
I never drank in the 80's. I was to busy back then with a baby and with a husband. I didn't have time to drink. Now if we were talking about the 90's I could tell you a couple of stories.. lol

That sounds disgusting Wave. :D
Must remember to try that.
For us it was Guinness, Lemon Gin and Black Russians. Not usually at the same time. :D
in the 80s... I drank alot of Jack and Coke... I would dump out half of my Coke and add Jack.. and off to school I went! (That explains why I started flunking in the 10th grade)... ;) It was alot of fun though... Now, at parties.. the guys I hung with drank Busch beer... and we did lots of beer bongs, funneling, shot gunning.. whatever you want to call it! I held the record in our group for being able to shot-gun a beer in 3.5 seconds! I could probably still do that now.. but I drink from bottles now ;) hehehe My beer of choice now is Miller Lite... gotta try and keep my figure, you know!
But I loooove to drink!! Mainly beer.. and a decent Merlot for dinner...

Don't kid yourself sweetie.. you're still on a bottle ;)
I was drinking Slice way back then.. being that I wasn't of age yet ;) I did a little of the wacky weed though. No, actually I am not kidding.. my mom's boyfriend gave my sister and I shotguns when I was about 7 or 8 (No, I don't mean the kind that you shoot son ) How's that for a crazy childhood story? Maybe that's what's wrong with me?

Maybe that's why I'm "special"? LOL :D
pamela* 11-28-01, 03:54 PM Maybe that's why you're so damn uncontrollable.. too much of the wacky weed.. yeah that's right.. I think I was pregnant with you when I was about 7. Wouldn't that be about right? :D
Ted Nugent 11-28-01, 03:57 PM I just realized, TC had me, you adopted me. :p So that means I'm special cuz of bad genes (tc). :D
pamela* 11-28-01, 03:59 PM oh ok.. so I wasn't pregnant at age 7? Thank God!!! I was getting a little worried there.. I mean, what would the neighbors think?
:o
I never have liked beer at all, but in the 80s I was usually found with rum & Coke or rum & Dr. Pepper.
Had a very bad expirement with an apple juice bottle full of whatever hard liquor the people I babysat for had in their cabinet. I mixed it all together and snuck it out for a party that night. I don't remember much except that it was mostly Peppermint Schnapps. I could not stand the smell of peppermint for several years after how sick I got. Christmastime was especially difficult that year.
Gold-Schlong-Er... ugh! :p
Ya know how them bottles got them long necks???
I was at this party a couple of years ago and this chick we called "98lbs of fury" pinned me to the ground, straddled me and shoved the neck of the bottle down my throat for several seconds. Next thing I remember was like two days later!
Caligula 11-28-01, 06:40 PM I think I misread the question, I thought you wanted to know what was the cheapest liquors you would drink to get drunk. I don't want to look like a hobo that spent the 80's riding the rails. So for the most part , I drank Beer, Alexander Keiths India Pale Ale (for those who like it, like it alot) and the occasional rum and coke, but I'm mostly a beer drinker
That Guy Next Door 11-28-01, 08:07 PM bears little interest, but has anyone been part of a puke contest after bein drunk ? Ya wouldn't believe how much some could vomit even tho' they were skinny.

At least the colour is quite interesting. :D
Have a Jägermeister afterwards...then you know what´s really disgusting.
Forgot to add Bailey´s, and later, Vodka w/ Bitter Lemon.

I used to love that stuff. I can't say that it ever returned the love though. Used to give me nasty hangovers. :(
I didn't actually start drinking till 1989, and even then I was pretty scared. Dad was a Policeman, so I had all the lectures in the world about not making a total tit of myself, or going to Bars that Dad knew were unsafe, etc, etc.....
I used to drink a lot of canned pop 'Quattro' being one of my favs - anyone else remember that?

LOL I know Val. I'm hearing that with the English accent. :D
You're ok Steve. ;)
I was mainly a beer drinker. I still have an occasional beer but know a days I'll have wine with dinner. I'll have Vodka w/cranberry juice at parties or Mike's Hard Lemonade. Pretty simple nothing fancy. ;)
Hehee, glad it made you laugh guys. For best results say it with a James Bond accent! ;)
I enjoy my little 'English' expressions, just as I love your American quips!
That's what this board is all about, exchange of cultures!! :D :)
Jagermeister..yikes. that brings back memories. we used to drink that in the late 80's and 90's. it wasn't the usual weekend thing, but it definitely had a world all it's own. What was in that stuff? We heard it had opium or something in it. It tasted like cough syrup.
:)

Don't let them give you crap, Steve. My Mom is British so I got to grow up with all the un-American sayings. Actually, now that I think about it, I have always given her crap about things she says. Really makes her mad when I tell her to say "Squirrel". :D
Kayenne 11-30-01, 11:08 AM Maybe we should add a British/American dictionnary to our German/American one? :D
On the topic...ahem... :
Beer (Bofferding), wine (white in the afternoon and red in the evening) and for really good times: Piña Colada, Gin & Tonic, Gin Fizz, Screwdrivers, Tequilla Slammers and others that I can't remember the name of....
That Guy Next Door 11-30-01, 12:37 PM We french, well I , don't wanna be left in the way, mention french people ( well I'm already screamin' it aloud in every of my post )
TGND " If we ruled the world, we would set higher food standarts . Good food would be a priority "

*LOL* Possibly...I´ve also heard that a massive overdose is causing hair growings at unexpected places. ;)
Since the boss of Jägermeister is a distant relative of mine, I would be extremely careful... :D
xistenza 11-30-01, 05:48 PM I didn't start drinking until highschool....which was the early 90s. Even then, it was just at parties so we were stuck with crappy beer like Coors Light. YUCK!
In college we used to drink Boone's. Can't go wrong with $1.99 a bottle!!
Now my drink of choice is either Vodka Tonic, Vodka Cranberry, or Wine.
hey, I like Jagermeister. Atleast I didn't o.d. on it.lol. Didn't have to. A few shots and you're good for the evening. I'm going to have to go to the liquor store soon...

Dizzy nectar? Oh, you mean alcoholic beverages? Well, I never drank anything alcoholic in the '80s.
However, in '93--at the age of 23--I had my first-ever taste of an alcoholic beverage: chardonnay.

hhhmmm, what did I drink? well basically like you it was the cheapest that we could afford, and you'd be surprised at how much would fit under a coat, especially when yours truly got to flirting with the cashier guy.(men so easy, lol just kidding guys)Man the wild times I can remember, it also helped that I had a fast car with a big trunk that saved us more than once(till I totalled it of course) My dad also had a bar at the house and he always had his military colleagues over so he always had a lot of hard stuff on hand for an occasion, funny though he never noticed that it disappeared.
wow, the memories.
Therrell, Please read your Private Message about using my Avatar.
We drank some pretty bad things during the 80s - most of them I wouldn't touch today.
Purple Jesus - Alchol & grape Koolaide
Blue Lagoons - Blue karoko and OJ
Twist Shandies, Durango, Blue in a can (yuk gross),
We stole many items from our parents liquor cabinets - cherry brandy brings back terrible memories :D
We made our own Screech - taking a bit of alcohol from all our parents liquor and putting it all in a mason jar (bad idea).
Spumonti Bambino (wine with could higher than 2 is a very bad idea.
Gin is just bad, lemon gin is worse :D
My old tried and true though is Canadian Club with Gingerale or Vodka and Wink :)

I'm so sorry Zel it slipped my mind to take it off, hope you aren't too mad at me.
Caligula 12-01-01, 06:41 PM Anyone ever hear of swish. It's where you go to a rum distillery, buy a wooden barrel, where they used to keep the rum. You take it home and put a couple gallons of water in the barrel, and each day you move roll the barrel a few inches. After 20 days alot of the rum that was soaked in the wooden barrel, gets mixed with the water and bang you have a whole lot of liquor. It was popular here in the 80's now the distillery cuts the barrels in 1/2

Hmmm...I wonder if my boss will let me take a few barrels home next week! LOL
No, Their full of rum and weigh about 465Lbs each...bad idea!
Of course I'm not mad! Thank you :) Send Roemy or Sal your avatar and they will set you up. :)
Don't really have anything to add to this topic. Just felt like doing a little "stalking" to my stalker. ;)
Kayenne 12-02-01, 07:29 AM Hey - if stalkees stalk their stalkers then I guess it's okay if I do a sneak-stalking my stalker's sidekick, no?? :p :D
LOSTNTHE80S 12-02-01, 12:22 PM Hi....guess this is my first post. What did we drink in the 80's??? Boone's Farm Strawberry Hill, Tickeled Pink (which became Pickled Tink after a couple of bottles), Busch, Bud Light (what ever was the "beer of the week"), Mad Dog. Anything cheap enough that we were lucky enough to get our hands on.
Any given weekend night you could see me stubling around the local rock club with a pitcher of Zombies, drinking straight from the pitcher. Yea...I partied slightly.... ;)
LMAO Pagan I can picture that.
When I turned 19 (our age of majority) and even though I'd been going to the bar already for about a full year everyone thought I should try EVERYTHING! Zombies, shooters, white russians you name it i had some of it.... lets just say the next two days were not pretty :D I've never touched a Zombie since LOL
If my stalkee is stalking me and his sidekick's stalkee is stalking him and I'm coming back around we are really confused LMAO :D
Stalk away :D But I'm stalking you again LOL
