I would never have thought the Ravens could pull it off. These guys are as real as the Fortyniners and Cowboys ever were. They took on some of the best teams in the NFL in recent weeks and thoroughly beat eyery one of them ON THE ROAD!! I really didn't care who won the Super Bowl tonight (Dallas will be back next year!). This was a classic defensive struggle though. I couldn't believe the tenacity of the Ravens, they just didn't let up!! I was shocked (I can't think of any other word) at the final score. Ray Lewis deserves that MVP trophy, I wasn't truly a fan of his until tonight! That guy was hugely impressive in every single playoff game, as was the whole team! Hats off to the Ravens, this was their year!!

I'm not a big football person (only watch one game a year...the Super Bowl http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif), but that was pretty surprising. I thought NY would win too. That was funky with those 3 touchdowns in like 30 seconds http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//laugh.gif Talk about a seesaw battle (for a very short instance anyway) http://www.80sxchange.com/ubb/smilies//tongue.gif A blowout definitely was far from what I expected...shocking is definitely the right word.

I personally don't care for football, but my boss and some of my co-workers got mad at me cause we had the game playing in the TVs in the store and I happen to say out loud that football sucks.

I give credit for the Raven's defense. They played excellent. I don't, however, comsider them the greatest of all time. They played very well yesterday, but they were also helped immensely by the fact that Kerry Collins couldn't hit the broad side of an aircraft carrier with a basketball from five paces yesterday. His throws, and especially his decisions, where horrible.

Also, had that interception the Giants got for a touchdown not been overturned by a penalty, the game would have taken a different color.

No way, shape or form are the Ravens to be compared to the great teams of the past. Their offense was heinous. Trent Dilfer? Please! He didn't even complete 50% of his passes. You also have to take into consideration that they got to play the Steelers, Browns & Bengals TWICE this year. When they went down to Miami to play my Dolphins this year, what happened? 19-6 Miami.

Enough of my ranting....I just don't think they should be compared to teams like the Niners, the '85 Bears, the early 90's Cowboys, the 70's Steelers or the 70's Dolphins. Those were COMPLETE teams, offense AND defense. The Ravens are a one trick pony.

Hey. I was just thinking. Should I create another Sports area in the Sports section? This way, we could have conversations like this pumping up that forum - which is probably a little slower than this one anyways.. The thing is, all-year round there are big sporting events.. What do ya think?

I don't know if I can watch the XFL Roem. Football is holy to me, and the XFL promises to be the WWF in shoulder pads. While that may work for wrestling, it is a major injury waiting to happen for football. I've read that they're encouraging cheerleaders to go out with the players and then talk about it on game day. What nonsense. Football is football....it doesn't need the Vince McMahon touch.

From what I understand about it...the XFL isn't going to possess the pagentry and such of the actual WWF, it's just going to be football the way it was before all the restrictive rules and bs got placed in. Yeah, there'll be injuries, but football is, in it's most natural form, a violent sport. I like the fact that they get paid a fixed base pay and more only if they win. So these players will actually be earning their paychecks.

I've heard nothing about this cheerleader thing...unless it came from a source close to the organization or NBC, it's probably a load of bs. There are a lot of enemies of the WWF trying to bring them down with cencoring and foolish moral standards who would say anything to bring them down.

Won't know for sure until Saturday. I'll give it a shot...see if it's everything they've hyped it to be.

I agree with you on the salary situation. The story on the cheerleaders came from Vince's mouth in an interview in a local NY paper. He also said that they are ENCOURAGING helmet to helmet hits. The commentators will be sitting in the stands with the fans, and the cheerleaders will get just as much airtime as the players. This was all from the horses mouth. Something smells fishy. I'll watch the inaugural game, but if it takes on a cartoony flair it'll kill it for me.

Yes, football is a violent sport. So is hockey, but controlled violence. Think of all the rules that are in place to protect players in football now, yet the QBs still drop like flies. I'd be surprised if there's anyone left healthy on any of the XFL teams come the end of the season!

I don't know....it's the whole Vince thing. I know you dig wrestling, and that's cool. I used to be heavy into it when the Warrior was around. Lately, anything that has Vince's stamp on it makes me hesitate.

PS - A little bit of wrestling news. It seems that Randy Savage has a cameo role in the upcoming "Spiderman" movie, playing the wrestler that Peter Parker fights for $100 right after he aquires his spider powers. Pretty cool....
