What is it with the Rock music that gets airplay today? My Chemical Romance, etc.

Let's see, thrashy guitars, punky rhythms, angst filled songs and a lead singer with a voice that sounds like he has yet to complete puberty. Just about every post Blink 182, Emo band out there sounds the same to me.

There must be a factory somewhere that just keeps churning these bands out. Probably the same one that used to churn out Grunge bands back in the 90's. And Hair Metal bands back in the 80's. Welcome to the machine!

Ok, aside from the 80's, i really like the "lame rock" that you describe. I have never known of a music genre- emotional punk, or a culture (emo's) to ever cop such a sledging. I am 33, and to be honest that music really speaks to me at times. Sure it's a case of if you say buy an album by The Used, then you pretty much get an idea of what everyone else sounds like. However you have some that stand out Something Corporate (just for example). This is how the younger generation interperet music. If you listen closely you will hear a strong 80's influence in the lyrics and music. Sure it can be cheesy, but like 80's it is short, mostly simple and straight to the point. Perhaps you should sift through the albums of about 30 emo/ screamo bands (like i have) and you will find about 4 or 5 who aren't afraid to do their own thing. This is just todays youth ( as angsty and stressed out as they appear to be) trying to work out the world around them. What do others think?:vibes:

Nothing new in the world of music then.

I think this is gonna be one of those threads where everyone will have a different opinion about what's good and what's not. Personally, I have no problem with current music. My first love will always be The 80s, but there's a lot of good current rock out there. And if you listen, some of it has some 80s influences. Let me site an example. There's a new song by Maroon Five called "Makes Me Wonder" that definitely has an 80s sound to it. At least I think so. Music is a very personal thing. What somebody might consider lame someone else might really love.

I have to agree with Cyhmn somewhat. Most of what I hear, via mtv or radio sounds similar. Cookie cutter bands. It is what sells. There are a few with real talent and uniqueness.

I do like some of the 90's grunge. ;) Some of today music is not that bad either. The music of today is more commercialized then it has ever been. It seems to be more about the look of the singer/band rather then the talent.
