....shopping. What a royal pain in the ass. :irked: I've spent $275 already and still need to get a few things.

Who is going broke on today's bad fashion for their kiddos?

I offered the kids 40 dollars in cash each if they agreed to wear last years clothes, they agreed, but their mother sure didn't

My kids wear last years clothes, that is normal to do so here in nl. What is the point of buying new clothes if they have perfectly good ones in their closet??

What is IMP Awards? That's all your linky says.

Your kids don't grow, walvis?!

Anywayz, if the clothes in his closet still fit, I could see having him wear them. Josh went through 3 different sizes in third grade - - three new wardrobes. I only ever let him get five or six outfits, because I never know when we're going to have to go up another size. This year (9th grade) his height didn't change much (about an inch), but he lost 20 pounds and went down 2 waist sizes and down a shirt size or two. Unless I want him walking around with his pants halfway down his ass, we gotta do it again.

I had to get him some pants at Goodwill just so he had something to wear for the summer. Even if all his clothes fit the same, though, I'd still buy him a few new outfits. When I stopped growing in 10th grade, my Dad still let me get a few new things to freshen up the wardrobe. ;)

My kids are 15, 16 and 19. They are almost done growing. It is just not a tradition here to buy clothes because of the new schoolyear. We buy when needed and most kids don't grow that much in 6 weeks that they need a whole new wardrobe.

Since my brother does not put up enough money for his kids, I buy mostly at second hand shops for their clothes. They are young enough to not know the difference. Plus they grow so fast and never take care of their clothes. It just makes sense to not spend $40 on a pair of jeans and $30 on a shirt. We do buy them new underclothes and shoes. :)

PCThug, I to noticed how early kids start back. Maybe they get out later for summer? Then start back sooner so they can get in as many football games?

Sad how schools put football above education. But that is a wole other topic to discuss. :p

Going today to buy school supplies & new clothes for my kids. I just went through their closets yesterday & not one pair of pants from last year fit either of them. They have grown like little weeds over the summer!! Thankfully my daughter is obssessed with Old Navy clothes, because they are really in-expensive :p And my son could care less about brand names...so I'll buy him whatevers on sale at Target ;)

School started yesterday here. I haven't spent that much yet, but the supply lists are still coming in. And I have 2 words for my fashion conscious kids...OLD NAVY. That usually works, but if it doesn't I use two more...WAL MART.

Steff started her SENIOR year last Thursday. I DO NOT take my daughter shopping. We do not get along in that respect. Soooooo, I hand her a couple hundred bucks and the keys to my car and send her off. It keeps the peace. I inspect the merchandise when she gets home. She's pretty good. I haven't had to send anything back yet.

Nolan, do y'all have a Goody's in Mississippi? We have one here, and while I'd never buy shoes there (KA-ching!!!), they have great deals on clothes. They always have a couple clearance racks and that stuff is usually marked 50% off lowest ticket price. :thumb:

I won't spend more than $20 for a pair of jeans for Josh to trash, so we usually go there and Gabriel Bros. and WalMart. What really costs me is the shoes. You can't find a decent pair his size for under $30 around here. :irked: And the kid goes through four or five pairs of tennies a year....

Luckily it's only jeans, t-shirts, and hoodies for boys. He's more particular about his undies and socks than his jeans.

School starts the 29th here....

School started August 8th for my kids. :yucky:

Kids clothes are a REALLY good deal at Goodwill or any thrift store! They grow out of them before they're in bad shape most of the time, anyway. I end up picking up jeans and stuff there, as the cooler weather starts hitting. But that's not till November or so.

My kids end up wanting to wear most of their summer clothes to school for several months, before I have to go through their wardrobe and get new stuff. I do get new undies, shoes, and a few new outfits for each of them. But damn, between clothes and school supplies, I think I spent close to $700 on the three of them. :scared:

A lot of states have tax free holidays for back to school stuff. In Maryland it's the 23-27 of this month.

It's not just the damn clothes, but all the school supplies, I need to get each kid 3 dictionaries, English, French and English-French as well as some verb dictionary, each kid has to bring in 8 boxes of kleenex to share with the other kids...thats a lot of snot , 2p airs of sneakers each, markers, new lunch boxes (one left a sandwich in theirs since june) and bookbags. Were estimating school suplies alone will cost 250

My kids started on the 9th of August ! God I dread school as if like I were going back.. I like my kids home during the day and no homework stress.. Our schedules are much more relaxed too !

I have spent over 450 bucks for clothes, supplies and fees .. And still not finished completely..
I have 3 kids in school this year with my 5 yr old going to Kindergarden and my oldest starting High School this year.. Boy, the time flies..

Speaking of expensive school supplies, I bought some small bottles of hand sanitizer yesterday for $5 a pop. For that price that stuff better not only kill germs, but cure rabies, clear up acne, and improve their test scores.

Why TF do kids need hand sanitizer anyway? Are they handling less sanitary stuff these days than we did when we were kids? It's no wonder kids today are sick all the time, their immune systems have never had to work all that hard.

We currently have 5 kids in school here, so you can imagine how much money we've spent! Every time I see all the receipts I picture accountants cranking adding machines in my head!:scared: I personally don't have any kids (that I know of! ) but just seeing what it takes just to send them to school is really helping me to decide what I want for my 26th birthday...a vasectomy!

Just reading these posts and seeing some of the dollar amounts make me glad in some weird way that I don't have any kids.

My daughter Tiffany starts school Sept. 6th although my city's public schools go back Aug. 30th. We went shopping for her the other day and between her clothes and her school supplies we've already spent about $250.00. We still have to get her some more clothes which we will put on layaway. I understand how Jen* feels about not taking her daughter clothes shopping.... my daughter and I don't see eye to eye on the clothes she wants to get, especially her jeans. She's very picky about her jeans and she will complain if she doesn't get what she wants.... making our shopping trip miserable. The thought of taking her to put more clothes on layaway makes me cringe. Thank goodness it's only once a year !!!!!

I'm buying clothes all year long....that's what sucks. We didn't get a school supply list this year, but all the usual crap is always needed - notebooks, pens, pencils, binder, loose leaf paper, folders (which I forgot to get :dammit: ) and all that other crap. I don't have to buy tissues or paper towels anymore, but I get to make up for that with "lab fees".
