Did this about 2 months ago? What is everyone reading now.

I just picked up a book written by Jacquelyn Mitchard "A Theory of Relativity". She wrote Deep End of The Ocean. I read that book before I saw the movie and although the movie was really good it did not shine next to her writing. I'll keep you posted. If I post less this weekend it probably means the book is fantastic :)

Not reading anything at the moment. Any suggestions of good new scary books to read? I like stuff like Stephen King.

I´ve just finished Tom Clancys 'Executive Orders', and I´m still amazed and shocked about the content of this story - the similarities to that fateful 11 of September made me swallow hard sometimes.

Now I´m going for something lighter, a book from the 'BattleTech'-series, 'Illusions of Victory'.

I'm actually re-reading The Talisman by Stephen King and Peter Straub. They have finally put out a sequel 20 years later. I have to reacquaint myself with the characters before I read The Black House.

I have to read something to relax me. After a long day at work i like to unwind with a good book.
Right now I am reading two books.
The Basement by Bari Woods
Faerie Tale by Raymond Feist

Very good twisted books..

hey I read that book about 10 years ago. it is worth a reread before the sequel. I hope it is worth the wait.

Stacy check out Peter Straub or try Dean Koontz for something a little different. Dark Rivers of the heart, Intensity etc. :)

Wave my husband is currently reading Rainbow 6 - he's totally into it (its keeping him off the net for a few days LOL)

I was going to post this just the other day actually. I absolutely love to read and am reading about three books at the moment. Well sorta. I'm trying to finish two, so I can start another. I'm usually into crime novels, psycho serial-killer stuff  so right now I am reading From Potter's Field by Patricia Cornwell. I'm also reading Summer Sisters by Judy Blume and I am telling you, this is a book you will not put down. I think any woman out there could relate to this book. I don't normally read this type of book but someone loaned it to me and suggested it. I hate romance novels.. so that's not what it is. I also started reading a book called House of Leaves by Mark Danielewski about a house that is bigger on the inside than it is on the outside. It's a symbolic story about impending darkness.. but the book is set up up really crazy.. with the text upside down, diagonal, sometimes only one word to a page.. and so I had to give it a break. Next up is The Celestine Prophecy: An Adventure, a book on Spirituality. A friend sent it to me as a gift because he thought we connected so well, like in the book. I'll let you all know if it's good.

I am re-reading The Mammoth Hunters by Jean M. Auel. She finally has a new book coming out, The Shelter of Stones, her first book in eleven years, and I wanted to be able to remember the story before the new book comes out next year!

Pam I adore Patrica Cornwall! I don't care as much for the precint series but Scarpetta & Marino are two of my favorite characters. I can't wait for the next one to come out.

If you like this genre check out Kathy Reich's Deja Dead. Its really good too :)

I think I lost sleep to read Summer Sisters - Judy Bloome is amazing as always.

I know, Summer Sisters is so funny and real. I really related to Vix. I definitely reccommend it :D

Scarpetta and Marino are my favorite characters too.. I haven't exactly been reading them in order.. I just take what I can get.. I check them out at the library. The only books I've bought in a long time were the Harry Potter books, House of Leaves and a three-in-one series.. all put into one book that looked interesting.. I bought it in Australia.. so I don't know if it's an American Author. Right now, I can't even recall his name.

I'm starting tomorrow on a book about the Royal Family Of Monaco, which I am a distant relative of through Grace Kelly. It's true...a member of the Kelly family was a first cousin of a member of the Kilduff family back in Ireland. It's a long-distance connection, but I am related to royalty. Nifty, huh?

I also checked out a book about the Kennedys in Hollywood (that family fascinates me. They had a tough time of it) and George Carlin's "Napalm and Silly Putty".

Sincerely,

The books I read at the moment have such fascinating *cough* titles as "International Human Resource Management", "International Organisations" and "The Expatriate Experience". I need to read some fun stuff!! I might have to re-read my Bridget Jones books or borrow my brother's Harry Potter books. Otherwise I'm stuck with "War & Peace" which has been collecting dust on my book-shelf for years now...... :p How does one get started on that book??? :D

Zel
11-25-01, 10:06 AM
Hey Kay here's some fun you could have with those heavy reads.

We have some nasty COP's & SOP's at work that get so dry so I usually break it down how I know best and it helps me remember more too.

1) How are these policies working to manage the workers heart (see managed heart)
2) How can the workers use these policies to work for them. LOL

Hey grew up in a socialist country, my BA is in Social Science it only comes naturally :D

Nah - do the Brigett Jones thing or read something historical and really smutty - now thats fun :)

The World's Religions by Huston Smith. Good reference book on the history/basics of Hinduism, Buddhism, Confucianism, Taoism, Islam, Judaism, Christianity, and.... the native traditions of Australia, Africa, Oceania and the Americas. There done with the commerical. Anyways, not a comparative book, just gives the facts, which let's you explore in your own mind correllations, etc.

A bit slack when it comes to reading at the moment. My three favourite books of all time are:

Stephen King's "IT"
Absolutely amazing book. Brilliant characterisation and you feel sad when you finish because you know you're never going to read about the characters again. They almost become like friends.

Stephen King's "The Stand"
Same as previous. Enthralling book

Douglas Adams "Hitch Hikers Guide to the Galaxy" series.
Classic English comedy. Will always be my favourite series of books. Long live Zaphod Beeblebrox!!!!!!!!!!!

I checked out some books on Nazi kitsch and photomontages by John Heartfield for a paper recently. Was quite fun carrying these on the bus. Not. Very informative though. And scary.

Zel, what country did you grow up in?

Open front cover, turn to page 1. Just kidding Kay. :D If you haven't read it before, start it soon. One of the best ever. But I'm sure you don't need me to tell you that.

I too have started re-reading Lord of the Rings like many of you. I have to read a chapter out loud to the missus every night. She's never read it before. :)

I've read all of Patricia Cornwell's books, I got into the first one and had to read the rest! I used to be a Paramedic, so I had a special interest in her subject matter. She's very good at storytelling, and the details are all real. I have all of them, I wish I could just give them to you!

Did you get to read the Celestine Prophecy? Most people who read the book get it from someone else; it's a very special book. I truly believe you have to be in the right frame of mind to read it so if you haven't already, don't pick it up till it 'calls to you'. Keep an open mind and maybe you'll get as much out of it as I did. I see echoes of that book in my life constantly, and I read it over a year ago. I won't ruin it for you-but when you do get around to reading it, let me know! :)

Well...for the holidays I received "Lord of the Rings", "Kiss & Makeup" by Gene Simmons and "The Dirt" by Motley Crue. I finished "The Dirt" and all I can say is HOLY SHIT! You wouldn't believe the lives these guys had!

I also found two books I read in the 80s on amazon.com and ordered them. "The Keep" and "The Tomb" by F. Paul Wilson. "The Tomb" is a pretty cool horror/mystery/crime book, and "The Keep" is an awesome horror/sci-fi.

I'm also reading Scott Carpenter's "The Magical Household".

I just finished 'Stolen Lives' by Malika Oufkir and Michele Fitoussi. It is about the family of General Muhammad Oufkir, of Morocco, who was executed by the King's men for trying to assassinate the King. His wife, six children and two close friends were thrown into various prisons, deprived of basic amenities and decent food, and nearly died in conditions that we would think only people suffering in third world countries would be subjected to. It's heartbreaking, and based on a true story.

I am currently reading 'The Association' by Bentley Little, but I'm not far enough into to tell you if I like it yet! I'll let you know.

A book on exploring your past lives. I want to see if this reincarnation stuff is true.

Also, I'm again reading the book "Fade Out: The Calamitous Final Days of MGM". Written in 1990, it is somewhat outdated...but it's still good reading.

If you want to get behind-the-scenes dirtn on the movie "Red Dawn", come read this book, if you can find it. The film's director John Milius worked with military brass including Alexander Haig, and the movie had enough authentic weaponry for World War III (somebody enlighten me...is this a world war we're in right now?)
