You have a local "Class Act" (Celebrity or not) in your town? Tell us about him/her.
Here's our "Class Act":
I was watching a TV Show tonight and while I knew about this man and his wife and their organization....I never really knew the scope of what kind of impact he made on children. An added bonus is I am a huge fan of his. The man...The Seattle Mariners All-Star Starting Pitcher Jamie Moyer. The organization....the Moyer Foundation (http://www.moyerfoundation.org) (Founded by Moyer and his wife Karen, both of whom call Seattle Home).
The Moyer Foundation funds organizations that help children in severe distress--children with life threatening illnesses or physical limitations, children who are coping with the loss of loved one, children who are victims of abuse or neglect. Support from The Moyer Foundation provides organizations with much needed resources to expand programs, purchase supplies, and enable children and their families to receive services and support.
A few years ago, a little boy here in my town of lakewood (who was about 6 at the time) had to "play dead" to keep his father from killing him. His father had already killed his mother by stabbing her several times. The little boy named Anthony Suko was also stabbed, but not as severely. He played dead long enough for his father to leave, then he called 911 for help. The father was convicted, and the little boy went to live with his aunt and Uncle in Florida. Well...Anthony is a life-long Mariner fan. He even claims he will one day be the Catcher for the mariners. Well...one day he recieves a letter from the Moyer Foundation....he's going to Seattle (Expenses paid by Moyer foundation) to get "A tour of Safeco field". Little does Anthony know what Mr. Moyer has in store for him. ON the tour, Anthony discovers a Mariners Jersey with HIS name on it hanging in the Visitors locker room. But it don't stop there...Anthony is reunited with his little league teammates and he gets to play baseball against Moyer, Retired Mariners Jay Buhner, & Edgar Martinez, and (then) Current Mariners Dan Wilson and John Olerud. If I were this kid I'd be sh***ing three Bricks instead of just one! Moyer made this kid's dreams come true, not just once, but THREE times! Moyer is truly a class act!
